I'm pretty despearet now. Does anyone know, what is the song they play during the end credits, and the scene, where Jacob finaly find out about the "ladder", and we get to see that brief fight scene between the crazy soldiers? It's some tribal, pan-flute driven ambient piece, and not "Hearing solar winds".
Hell and heaven is right here right now, and it's just a matter of perception, a matter of point of view. Now the tricky part is, it's really in your head. And when such a complex device, as the brain, begins playing its own tricks, things can get messy. And oh yes, sometimes brain can play tricks that will blow your mind.
I KNEW it was going to be himself! I KNEW IT! I think most of us who watched this can't really make it up in their heads yet and understand it, but they KNEW IT! They should have included this scene. They should have.
I'm just hoping Hollyweird doesn't go and remake this film and making it some cheap waste of money and time film like they always do with remakes nowadays.
@Daphuhnuh me to it was kinda lame i wish they had kept the first part in though it was kind of interesting but at the same time i understand why they took it out.
If you look at the uncovered Jacob Singer, he looks empty, frozen, cold and dead, just staring into nothing with cold eyes. What Jacob uncovers is his own death itself, as he's still clinging onto his family. Throughout the film Jezabel distanced him from his real family, burned the photos of his past. She came back to finally face him with this, that he's dead and he can't run to them from this fact.
@Khelhemn This scene would've been necessary if the other two deleted scenes were never cut. He goes back to his family, still clinging onto the Ladder drug as the thing behind his torment, he won't accept it. Jezi comes back to finally snap him out.
In the theatrical cut however, the whole thing with the scientist is cut down to him just discovering WHO killed him, and what happened. That was okay too, but these deleted scenes bought another light to the ending and made it a bit more dynamic.
when you realize everthing ls one.. all the demons become angels and bring u to heaven. that can happen here on earth. now. nothing will ever hurt you again
i dont see why this are the other 2 where taken out at all it should haven ended the same but with the monster thing dispersing and then the actual ending happening
Nothing is quite as hilarious as the spastic toothy eyeball creature that somehow inflates Tim's mouth like a blowdryer. That scene cracks me up every time. XD
I thought the movie was simply his life flashing before his eyes and he never truly had a son but if he had lived through whatever killed him, most likely gunshot, then what we see in the entire movie is what his life would have been like had he survived.
@darksidepianist And had he survived or "beat" Death or "cheated" Death...his life would have been tormented by demons and devils etc. Let me know what you all think...
@darksidepianist This sounds all wrong. I don't believe you've even seen this movie. He was stabbed by his fellow soldier with a bayonet, not a gunshot. His C-Rations had a very powerful drug in them issued to the unknowing soldiers by the government. They were attacked by their own troops, and the entire movie is the hallucination he is getting in his mind from the drugs before he dies.
Wow - these deleted scenes are amazing. SUCH a good film. And yeah - they take this film to a much darker place (if that's possible). Easily one of the most underrated films of all time.
I have watched this scene over and over again, and every time when he lifts off that veil to reveal himself, the expression, the lighting, the music, sends endless shivers straight through me. Incredible acting, and a work of art.
Wow, loved this scene. It was scary not in a horrific way, but scary because it was so forthright powerful and self revealing for Jacob. And then the monster doesn't say anything at the end... adding cheesy dialogue would have ruined it. The silence and the realization of who was under the mask were powerful indeed.
Yeah the final version ended with Jacob escalating into an allconsuming light. That ending, too, felt like deceit, though I still remember it as being one of the most exciting films of my life -til the end ruined it. Why couldn't they have ended it in the same enigmatic way, making all fields of question and wonder flat?
Yeah this scene is a little off..I too am glad they deleted this scene. Love the movie just how it is..And I love Tim Robbin's haircut he is really cute in this movie
To me, Jacob, as ModeL TU says, has been dead for the entire film. My impression was that there is a struggle between good and bad as to where his spirit ends up. However, do not go to any forums if you have a fragile mind and cannot form an opinion yourself. They will suck you in and steal all of your Mum's money, because you obviously don't have any yourself. What the hell are threads? Do you wear them? Is it 1950's lingo night?
@NPRJMR The other Jacob have lighter skin.. Couldnt it mean that, it's dead Jacob? Thanks for taking this up, I rad in wiki after watching the Movie and found that it contains deleted scenes. :)
I think they should've just ended it here. It leaves the audience to ponder the film's meaning as opposed to simply giving us a blatant answer for what's happening to Jacob.

I do. I think I should be able to have my own interpretation of the film just like someone can have their own interpretation of a painting. I think a film is something to be discussed, something to think about; it doesn't always need to justify its self with a clear resolution.
i watched all 3 deleted scenes and i think the movie is better off/perfect without them, i dont see how any of them really add anything that we didnt already work out
-----SPOILER -----She is a demon trying to take Jake to hell and Jake`s chiropractor was his guardian angel who wants to take Jake to heaven in the end Jake stops fighting and his son takes him to heaven.
Thank you for sharing those deleted scenes. I agree with LockedPig, this one was another key to the answer - Jezebel being an invention, another Jacob...

Jake was suffering guilt over the death of his son, and simply couldn't let go of it. The entire film really is about reconcilliation over the loss of a loved one, just as much as accepting death.
they should have left that scene in the film. this film is referring to the experimental drug B.Z and the supposed after effects completely over the top still a good film though apart from the ending too cheesy
Nope, we all have his same fate (well ours will be personalized towards ourselves) but when you're dying, huge amounts of DMT are released in your brain which is what is responsible for near death experiences and actual dying hallucinations. DMT is one of the most potent psychedelics around, it's one of the active ingredients in Shamanic ayahuasca.
Some say Ketamine rivals DMT if you're able to get into a "k-hole".
PCP is pretty powerful too. If it's based on psychedelic power per weight, lsd wins that one. But based on which one can take you to the "highest level" I'd say it's DMT with ketamine on its heels, from what I've read. It also depends on what route taken, etc.
This ending should have DEFINITELY been the one. I sorta like the other, but i dont know...it's quite cliche and nothing really happens. This entire 3 scene sequence explained, kept you guessing, and made more of a challenge for Jacob. Not to mention these are really creepy and terrifying scenes by themselves. Again, the ending should have been like this. Also, putting Jezebel in there makes sense, since she is doing her angel/demon thing all along, burning the pics, helping him let go, etc...
I have to say this is one of my favourite films, so underrated as a horror film. A film that actually makes you think. Oh that's probably why it's underrated. :)
now i have a question, why did they delete so many good scnes from this movie??? if you notice the deleted scenes actually fill in the blanks. I just dont get it...
The deleted scenes are basically all showing the same thing -- Jacob's growing acceptance that he's dying/dead. The last scene with Danny Aiello explains and sums it perfectly, and makes sense continuity-wise because you're already familiar with his character. Personally, I think the scenes are more confusing within the entire context of the film, and there was no reason to beat a dead horse with them.
i totally agree with you, but come on did yoy see the deleted scene where the scientist who invented the ladder takes him back to his place to give him the cure? that scene should have been included in the film
Certainly an interesting scene, but too confusing so late in the film. You're still not sure whether it's the drug, or the process of dying that's causing the nightmare, and Adrian Lyne probably wanted it to be clear by that point.
correct. Adding those scenes to the movie would have degraded it IMO. This is the first time I've seen them and I've watched the film 100 times. You get the idea that the guy is stuck between death and life and wont accept it or let go. Adding more demons to the film such as in the antidote scene would have taken away from the film.
Completely agree. The scenes were interesting, but the film is fine the way it is. The only thing that I would've liked to see changed was the Vietnam conspiracy message at the end of the film. Jacob's Ladder for me is about a man battling his personal demons in purgatory, nothing else.
Awesome scene. At last, Jacob has to confront his fake reality and accept the truth. But damn, it's still sad. You can't blame him for having the will to live.
Oh gawd, I agree! There's something incredible about that guy. He's flawlessly sexy even when he's no Brad Pitt. His talent is that amazing. There aren't many actors like him today.
This film is one of my faves, but its a very sad film really. What some of those poor vietnam soldiers had to go through with the experimental chemicals in the air was terrible.Like jakes friend says in the film.."its your worst ever acid trip times by 100" tim robbins is excellent in this.
Jacob's Ladder is very high on my personal "best ever" list...
I haven't seen these deleted scenes before... Even without them the movie is a crushing experience and I still think that it couldn't be much better, but with this alternate ending it would be... different. Much darker. Hell, I have to watch it again, ASAP.
Maria reminds me of his wife in this movie. Hell, he even dresses like James.
Also, the subway from this makes an appearance in SH3. And the toilet from the other deleted scene reminds me of the randomly opening toilet in one of the bathrooms in SH3..
another great deleted scene. but definatly one for the directors cut. i think they did a great job leaving these scenes on the cutting room floor, much as they are great.
They should have left that scene in the movie. I felt that the movies ending was a little anti-climatic and that Jacob should have faced his demons one last time. Still one of my favorite movies though.
The reason he sees himself under the cloth is because it's showing his true relationship with the woman. Think back to him masturbating in Nam. All she ever was was a fantasy. The person he was truly making love to was himself the entire time.
This scene reminds me of when Penelope Cruz takes the mask off of Tom Cruze in Vanilla Sky. Tom is stuck in hell because he needs a Jezebel to be his god who mirrors him...
Bruce Joel Rubin's answer to this is the Buddhist one: that your own mind is its own mirror. And realizing this frees Jacob from hell...
(This movie addresses such hauntingly intense psycho-religious themes; I just can't believe it hasn't gotten more attention)
I read the script (I think) after I saw the movie 3 years ago... I wandered why they left some great scenes like this out; i'm glad i found out now that they did make them and see them now; I imagined them while reading the script (in the subway on my way to school); it's funny(strange) to actually watch these scenes now
The end of the movie mentions the substance BZ. BZ is a powerfull hallucinogen that can cause 3-4 day trips. The US experimented with BZ at the time of the Vietnam war. Reports of this substance being used in combat situations in the recent past have come from Yugoslavia and more recently from Iraq. Reports coming out of Guantanamo Bay suggest US military still use Psychoactive substances as a weapon of war/torture.
I don't get this at all: he faces himself? What does that have to do with the rest of the film? The whole "it's over" really pummels the point (that he is dead) into the ground. I'm glad they left it out.
The lady was a demon for him, so she is cast out. When he sees a mirror image of himself, he is pure of her. It's a perfect scene and needs to be reinserted.
since he is actually dead, we could say that it was his soul's personal purgatory, although, yeah, saying it was in his head is an easy way to explain it.
Thats because this movie is one of the biggest influences over Silent Hill. The creators were big fans of this movie. Many areas resemble scenes from this movie (namely, the subway and hospital), and you can find small references all over the first 3 games.
Great movie. This scene would have been well if combined with the other one. Like, right after this he moves away and sits on the couch? haha
It's near the end, when Jacob goes to find solice in his ex-wife's house, to let go of his demons. Is this scene he confronts them, in the final one, he just sits down and lets go of them. Both are good, but it would of added more to the end I think, with this scene still kept in.
Thanks for posting, but that scene really wasn't well done. Which is bad, since it was so vital to the plot. I think. This scene sounded really good in the script.
Why arent these scenes in the original cut! if the sound was properly edited, these could have been some of the creepiest scenes in the movie :(

now i have a question, why did they delete so many good scnes from this movie??? if you notice the deleted scenes actually fill in the blanks. I just dont get it...
caifas2 3 years ago 3
The deleted scenes are basically all showing the same thing -- Jacob's growing acceptance that he's dying/dead. The last scene with Danny Aiello explains and sums it perfectly, and makes sense continuity-wise because you're already familiar with his character. Personally, I think the scenes are more confusing within the entire context of the film, and there was no reason to beat a dead horse with them.
youttubeisthesuck 3 years ago 2
i totally agree with you, but come on did yoy see the deleted scene where the scientist who invented the ladder takes him back to his place to give him the cure? that scene should have been included in the film
caifas2 3 years ago 2
Certainly an interesting scene, but too confusing so late in the film. You're still not sure whether it's the drug, or the process of dying that's causing the nightmare, and Adrian Lyne probably wanted it to be clear by that point.
youttubeisthesuck 3 years ago 2
correct. Adding those scenes to the movie would have degraded it IMO. This is the first time I've seen them and I've watched the film 100 times. You get the idea that the guy is stuck between death and life and wont accept it or let go. Adding more demons to the film such as in the antidote scene would have taken away from the film.
jamescaptainfarrell 3 years ago 3
Completely agree. The scenes were interesting, but the film is fine the way it is. The only thing that I would've liked to see changed was the Vietnam conspiracy message at the end of the film. Jacob's Ladder for me is about a man battling his personal demons in purgatory, nothing else.
ymk89 3 years ago 2
Awesome scene. At last, Jacob has to confront his fake reality and accept the truth. But damn, it's still sad. You can't blame him for having the will to live.

tim robbins is such a fantastic actor. he is just superb in this superb film. gives me chills.
sherribailey75 3 years ago
Oh gawd, I agree! There's something incredible about that guy. He's flawlessly sexy even when he's no Brad Pitt. His talent is that amazing. There aren't many actors like him today.
dantespimp 3 years ago 2
The above scene was in the tv version.

If they remade this movie it would be all computer animated. That's why this movie will be an all time classic.

Not necessarily.

This was an excellent film of all time. This is the one of my favourite films. Thanks for the uploading of deleted scenes.

This film is one of my faves, but its a very sad film really. What some of those poor vietnam soldiers had to go through with the experimental chemicals in the air was terrible.Like jakes friend says in the film.."its your worst ever acid trip times by 100" tim robbins is excellent in this.

this movie is creepy, it invented the blurface as we can see in the scene

Jacob's Ladder is very high on my personal "best ever" list...
I haven't seen these deleted scenes before... Even without them the movie is a crushing experience and I still think that it couldn't be much better, but with this alternate ending it would be... different. Much darker. Hell, I have to watch it again, ASAP.
Thank you, PallIngi! :)

you can see pretty clearly here where Team Silent got the final boss in Silent Hill 2 from...

It would have been nice if their heads moved that fast through the whole movie...needs more cowbell.

They should have left that scene in the movie. I felt that the movies ending was a little anti-climatic and that Jacob should have faced his demons one last time. Still one of my favorite movies though.

Good they left this scene out. It's much too literal for such a puzzling and mysterious plot.
"I get lost in Brooklyn."

The reason he sees himself under the cloth is because it's showing his true relationship with the woman. Think back to him masturbating in Nam. All she ever was was a fantasy. The person he was truly making love to was himself the entire time.

PERFECT explanation. good job :)

I wandered why they left some great scenes like this out; i'm glad i found out now that they did make them and see them now; I imagined them while reading the script (in the subway on my way to school); it's funny(strange) to actually watch these scenes now
litelus 4 years ago
The end of the movie mentions the substance BZ. BZ is a powerfull hallucinogen that can cause 3-4 day trips. The US experimented with BZ at the time of the Vietnam war. Reports of this substance being used in combat situations in the recent past have come from Yugoslavia and more recently from Iraq. Reports coming out of Guantanamo Bay suggest US military still use Psychoactive substances as a weapon of war/torture.
ooberalles 4 years ago
I don't get this at all: he faces himself? What does that have to do with the rest of the film? The whole "it's over" really pummels the point (that he is dead) into the ground. I'm glad they left it out.
calvintoronto 4 years ago
The lady was a demon for him, so she is cast out. When he sees a mirror image of himself, he is pure of her. It's a perfect scene and needs to be reinserted.

The reason is, according to Lyne, that Jezzie was manufactured by Jake. EVERYONE in the film was in his head.
JAF1970 2 years ago
Except of course for the scene in the army encampment at the very beginning
volk1125 2 years ago
since he is actually dead, we could say that it was his soul's personal purgatory, although, yeah, saying it was in his head is an easy way to explain it.

This reminds me of Silent Hill 2. O-O
BronzeFox 4 years ago
Thats because this movie is one of the biggest influences over Silent Hill. The creators were big fans of this movie. Many areas resemble scenes from this movie (namely, the subway and hospital), and you can find small references all over the first 3 games.
Great movie. This scene would have been well if combined with the other one. Like, right after this he moves away and sits on the couch? haha

Thats a piss take, lol.
I'm gonna try and get it aswell.

It's near the end, when Jacob goes to find solice in his ex-wife's house, to let go of his demons. Is this scene he confronts them, in the final one, he just sits down and lets go of them. Both are good, but it would of added more to the end I think, with this scene still kept in.
Brilliant film, one of my favorites.

I ain't gonna sleep tonight now. And I was stoned watching that, bollucks.

I disagree, this scene is amazing in my opinion. Very powerful. It would have further increased the melodrama of this already perfect piece of film.
ChillMagonya 4 years ago 2
Where is the damn director's cut of this film!!! These scenes should have been left in.
biped19 4 years ago
It's the director who kept them out. Bruce Joel Rubin wanted the movie to end with more of a Buddhist resolution.
nathanwilefrazier 3 years ago
Amazing. I wish this scene was done to the perfection of the other sub-horrific scenes. I can see this fitting so well to the ending.
Jaesz 4 years ago
Thanks for posting, but that scene really wasn't well done. Which is bad, since it was so vital to the plot. I think. This scene sounded really good in the script.
