  • when i mix it it should be lumpy right ? and what temperature do you heat your griddle to ? I like mine with real maple syrup.

  • @7777dmith7777 Yes, it's lumpy at first when you mix it, and then it smooths out a bit while it sits, and then you get all the lumps out when you mix in the oil later. And griddle??? I know I didn't mention using a griddle!.... I highly highly recommend that you do NOT cook your henna! It will break down the dye - the opposite of what you want to happen!

Use hot water (tea) if you really need to rush dye release along... but demise will be slower if you don't.

  • Thank You!

  • @african09pride Thanks for watching!

  • noticed you didnt use sugar in your mix, i have this beautiful organic henna powder (from artistic adornment) but when i mixed mine, i did use sugar, will the sugar interfere with the staining process?

  • @suryadasiify I have found in the past that sugar does indeed interfere with the quality of the stain. Many other people swear that it doesn't. Try it for yourself and see! One thing you may want to do is try using molasses. You can talk to people about their experiments with molasses on the Henna Gathering facebook group - it has been somewhat of a hot topic lately.

  • @HennaByHeather thanks heather.... actually, ive suspected this but still kept using it as i like the texture and stringy-ness... have used molasses and love it, tho ive used wayyyyy too much before and had to more than double the batch to get it right!

  • Were can you get the oil?

  • @egipcia72 Artistic Adornment (dot com) carries it

  • can i use hair dyr henna paste cause thats all i can find

  • @TTbeautify Nope, hair dye henna has a number of problems...ranging from mysterious and potentially harmful additives to lack of freshness to it just being not sifted well and very hard to work with.

Your best bet is to buy from a professional artist source like Artistic Adornment.

  • @TTbeautify You found hair dye that comes as a *paste*? That is very odd, and I wouldn't use it. Typically hair henna comes as a powder. And hair henna is much much lower quality than body art henna - either in sift (always!) or dye potency (usually) or both.

  • @VDOUBLEVx Yes, you use 1oz of cajeput essential oil per 100g of henna.

Check out the video : "How To Store Your Henna - in cones in the freezer!" for a longer explanation of the answer to your other question :)

  • Do you use all of the oil when you mix it in? And if you dont use the whole henna on your body and on others can you put it somewhere so you dont waste it? Or is there a time limit?

  • hey i live in milwaukee Wisconsin. does any boys know where i can get the henna powder!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?! thanks so much if u can answer this! (: id really apreciate it

  • @alicat474 You can get really amazingly dark, finely sifted henna powder from Artistic Adornment - do a Google search to find it :) or just add the "dot" and the "com" to the business name and voila! (silly YouTube, not letting me put a website address in a comment............)

  • y did you say if you have ocd

  • the background noise is REALLY annoying

    lol

  • @pikaboobitch 100g of Artistic Organic Henna is $9, 1oz of cajeput essential oil is $8, both available from Artistic Adornment.

  • @Iresonatewithu - Good tip!! Protect the kitties!!

@plantgrlgracie - You *want* orangish henna? Don't add the essential oils, and don't leave it on the skin very long. Actually I take back my sarcastic questioning tone. Some beautiful two-tone work can be done by having light areas of orange along with darker areas.

@plantgrlgracie Yes you have to add the cajeput oil if you want good results! So important!

@clairebertag 1oz of essential oil to 100g of henna.

  • I just want to mention to all henna mixers who also happen to be cat lovers out there some essential safety- tea tree (cajeput is related!) is extremely TOXIC to cats. They cant get it on them (they groom) .

  • What can you use to make it orangish?

  • Do you have to have the cajeput oil or will it work without?

  • Hi i loved your video. This is my first time doing henna and my package hasn't even arrived yet. I just had a question, do u pour in all the oil or a certain amount?? Please comment or post on my wall for the answer thank you!!

  • Do I have to use the oil? Can I skip it?What can I use as a subsitue?

  • @puja144 For optimal color, you really do need to use an essential oil with monoterpene alcohols, and cajeput has the most of these of any available for a modest price. You can leave the essential oil out and just mix with lemon juice, but you will sacrifice quite a lot of color richness. You could mix with just water or black tea, but again you will not get as strong color - not even as strong as if you mixed just with lemon juice, in my experience.

  • thanks so much for this tutorial - it must take a lot of your time and I really appreciate the effort - thanks and looking forward to more great vids - aisha :)

  • @makola1970 Aw, thanks so much for your appreciation! It keeps me inspired to make more videos :)

  • how much is a bag of henna powder and that oil??

  • @pikaboobitch $9 for the 100g of Artistic Organic henna and $8 for the 1oz of cajeput essential oil at Artistic Adornment

  • @zenawanabe Thanks for watching!

  • Very helpful, thanks.... Can i ask a question, does henna react with silver , cos a while ago i watched a vid, in which it was sed keep henna away from silver? :s

  • @Kaprikornkutie Natural, pure henna does not react with silver. Impure henna like the kinds often sold as hair dye may have metallic salts and other impurities, which react badly with many things.

  • Thank you so much! Can you tell me how much volume of oil goes into the mixture? Also how long does the paste last once it's mixed and put into the cone? Since there are no preservatives do you have to store the leftovers in the fridge? Thanks again this is so helpful!

  • @KSakemi Whoops major oversight that I didn't say it is *1oz of cajeput essential oil* out loud... (the bottle does say it, as does the recipe in the video description)

And I covered the storage question in an upcoming video already recorded but waiting to be processed/released. Basically - put it into cones and freeze it right away, that's the best thing!

  • @HennaByHeather Thanks! :)

  • @KSakemi Thanks for watching! :)

  • first! great video again Heather, Cajeput is by far my most fav. oil. I really love the smell.

  • @angelface190081 The smell is pretty nice! Sometimes when I get sick of it (....right around July, middle of the festival/wedding season...) I add a bit of lemongrass + sweet orange oil blend. (which is also up @ artistic adornment ...)
