While this song has a good message, it is unnecessarily merry. The struggle is a tragedy brought on by Britain. Many die fighting tyranny, and even British soldiers killed are not the tyrant themselves, but the lower class servants to that tyrant.
So fight tyranny, rise up, resist Britain and its 800 years of injustice, but recognize it all for the tragedy it is. This song would be better without the sobering images of men fighting to the death for their land, freedom, and families.
@johnpaulmeehan What about non-Catholics Irishmen who want to see a united Ireland, and the British out? Is there no room for in Ireland for non-Catholic Republicans? I'm a Southern American of Irish decent, and I want to see a united, and independant Ireland, first, how is is goverened in a post British Ireland, would be secondary. -Johnny
these are the men who's main aim was 2 protect their communities from persistent attacks/incursions from loyalist mobs backed up by the b-specials under the watchful eye of the ruc....and in the end flushed out the brittish army's presance 2 a fraction of its origonal occupying force
