I enjoyed this book :) I thought there was a little loving connection between Margaret and Jasper (her 1st husband's brother) toward the end? But maybe that's just me being a hopeless romantic ;)
The White Queen & Red Queen to be made into movies... separate... really good movies
I've read them both and absolutely love them. searched up "red queen review" on you tube and this video popped up! everyone who's watching this or reading my comment: GO READ THOSE BOOKS! lol super good!
i feel like Elizabeth ( the white queen ) got a lot more bitter near the end of the book.... and wasn't she a Lancaster before she married the prince?
anyways loved it.. def will read other books from this author(:
I read the white queen on your recommendation and i wouldn't say i regretted reading it or i thought it was bad i think i read at a bad time and i didn't have enough background knowledge on european history because i couldn't really bond with the white queen because i thought she was a little dramatic but then i went ahead and read the red queen and it made me understand the book better and now i think the third one which i think will end up being the most interesting! Love the Glitteratures!(:
i'm really into history and i read pretty much historic novels and i've been looking for this book EVERYWHERE, but i can't fin it :/ i dont like the Lancasters as much as i like the Yorks but i'll give her a chance.
I would love to know if you have ANY THOUGHTS at all on classics, like Dostoevsky, Hugo, etc??? Come on, girls, aim high, read those classics instead!!!
@wildredrose99 well, f.e. I have read both authors you named, and yeah those are classics, but why should everyone read only classics??? If to talk about Russian classics, I would recommend The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov, trust me, it's one of the greatest books ever written!!! But as well Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky, it's hard to understand without knowing a little bit of history and understanding mentality. And I do believe thet everyone is free to choose what to read!!!
i highly recommend ''a discovery of witches''/its an amazing book and of course it contains vampires witches and stuff like that..it is amazing.you should totally check it out! :)
I used to always think I was more like blair beacuse I am spunky and a dog lover but I now think im more like elle - I'm a total book worm and elle and I have so much in common!
Hey, Elle! Thanx for doing glitterature. And let me recommend you one book series, which I just finished, and I did really like it. Maybe you would like it as well. It's called The Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. Something between The Hunger games and Brave New world by Aldous Huxley.
If you like this book then u will love Primavera! Its kinda a kid book but its a really easy read and I think u could finish it in about 2 days! Its based of of Botticelie and his art work and its set back in old italy!
have you read the lady of the rivers? i read that before the white queen, and the lady of the rivers was basicly the beginning of the whole feud. it followed elizabeth's mother when she was younger and how she married a duke who wanted her for her Sight. i only read the first chapter of the white queen before realising that the lady of the rivers came first. and after reading the lady of the rivers, white queen made so much more sense :)
Have you read the boy in the stripped pyjamas, about the jewish concerntratin camps? we had to read it for my english class, its historic fiction aswell and so sad. it is also a movie now. If you have'nt i recomend it :)
Hey! I've been watching some of your Glitteratures... if your looking for a good read, I recommend Anna Godbersen's The Luxe series or her newest series, Bright Young Things. The first is like Gossip Girls set in Manhatten 1800s. Plus, I think you'd like Melissa De La Cruz's Blue Bloods series. Her Book 1 is a little slow, but Book 2 and forward is so worth it. =)
I am half way through the Red Queen, and I am not as into it as well. This one is taking me a lot longer to read, but good so far! Even though I havent finished this one yet, I definitely like The White Queen better. Thanks for recommending these books :)
Elle, Philippa Gregory came out with a new book called the Lady of the Rivers about Jacquetta, Elizabeth's mother, and her story. It's really good!!! Just in case you didn't know :)
I have some books that I think you will like you may have read them tho 1. The wicked series not the one that's now a play it's different 2. The ugly series they are kindof like the hunger games but not at the same time 3. And the underneath it is the saddest book iv ever read but also one of the best:):)
Hey Elle! I'm your biggest fan Eva!!!! I want to tell you that I loved both of them ALOT!!!! Even though I prefer the White queen because it's more romantic... If you wanna read the sequel it's the lady of the rivers... It's the one that you might like the most :)
I read both books, and I agree with you. The red queen is almost to bitter to bond with so that takes away from the enjoyment of reading the book. Thanks for doing this video! Can you do a room/apartment tour please?
hey elle the one about the water goddess, is called the lady of the river i think and its available on amazon.com now in hardback not softback but if ur really wanting to read that book its available now! i wanted u to know
The White Queen is going to be the next book i read. :D. Not sure if you have read it already or not, but The Queen's Fool by Philippa Gregory is amazing.
Elle, I respectfully disagree. I found the red queen by far more enjoyable than the white queen. The red queen was a strong, determined woman, who had to fight for her family. She also suffered a lot of pain and heartache in her life. I really related to those parts of margaret and found her to be more human than elizabeth. I found the white queen to be the self-centred & fictional one, and also rather annoying. I just couldn't relate to elizabeth at all :)
@LiviFrances I agree on the part about Elizabeth Woodville. I haven't read the Red Queen yet, but I don't agree with the way Elle described her character in the White Queen. I found her to be very into herself and power hungry. And I didn't like her husband Edward at all.
Hey elle! I immediately read white queen after ur gliterature on that and I fell in love with everything! It truly was a fairytale. Then I read the red queen and although it was depressing, and u could somewhat sympathize w/ the character to some extent, I did like it. I was seriously researching the family line connections of english royalty and it was so interesting. Cant wait to read lady of the rivers which I believe is out for sale already!
I love book talks! I actually got both the books from the Library but they came due before I had time to sit down and read them. Hopefully next time. Have you read any Sophie Kinsella? She's my new favorite author - she wrote "Confessions of a Shopaholic" .... which I wasn't a fan of, but her other stuff is great!
Elle i love your glitterature, that type of book don't is my favorite but i'm so excited with the review that i buy her. Do more book haul's because are my favorite videos ever.
I have an AMAZING series that I'm in the middle of, called the A Moose Jaw Adventure.. there are 4 books in the series, and they are SOOOO good!!! I CONNOT put it down! xD You should really check them out, and you'll love it! : )
I just bought the white queen today so I'm so excited to start reading it. I've never read any of Phillipa gregory's books and I'm starting w/ the white queen. Any other of her books to recommend?
I love "the other Bolelyn girl" both as the movie and the book, I'm reading it atm and I'm so thrilled! It's really good and I totally have to give YOU credit for inspiring me to read Philippa Gregory, thank you! :)
I think that your opinion is slightly bias because you read the White Queen first, and created that connection and sympathy towards her, which is understandable. I am actually reading the Red Queen right now and I find it to be interesting and well written. I admit her story is bleak, considering how her Mother treats her, and how she is bedded and used, but I have to say I sympathize for her, and I would disagree to saying she's not a nice person. Lastly, thank you for the gliterature and please
I love these Glitteratures that you do - I am a huge bookworm myself and it's so great that you talk about books, literature, and history along with all the beauty and the fashion. Just goes to show you've got beauty and brains :) <3
lol you do realize you're talking about The War of the Roses right? Sorry I took British Literature and did a project on The War of the Roses. Pretty cool huh?! I'm always interested in literature when it comes to royalty. Glad you enjoyed the books and learned a bit about The War of the Roses!
the lady of the rivers is fabulous! i've read all of three of the books and love them. but the white queen and lady of the rivers were my favorite. also the constant princess has the has the red queen in as the king's mother then grandmother.
I tried to read a book by Phillipa Gregory, i think it could of been the White Queen, but i just couldnt get into it :/ I want to like historical books cause you make them sound so good! Maybe :I'll give it another go
I am reading the Red Queen right now and I haven't read the White Queen yet... I feel bad for her and I really like her character right now but then again I haven't read the other one...
You know that by Red and White queen shes talking about the war of the roses. The House of Lancaster had the White rose while the House of York had the Red rose
@KristenBarger8 It's kind of funny since the name of the war itself is inaccurate. The Red rose was the symbol of the House of Tudor, not the House of York.
I am Totally on the White Queens side!!!!!!!!!!! ps. I've started The Lady of the Rivers and Love it!!!!!! I agree so much with your glitterature!!!! xoxooxx
I just bought The Lady of the rivers, which is the third book in this "series" (the one you talked about, I'm guessing!), and I've also read the white queen (: I'm super excited!
Its a good thing I didn't want to read these books, because you just said way too many details... i like to be surprised. Read the back of the book, tell us how you feel and leave it at that... describing actual events in the book is irritating and doesn't make me interested.
@nutmeggreenpurple how did she spoil anything? the back of the book probably goes more into detail than she even did, no need to be rude just to be rude. and if you didn't want to read them anyway, than what's it to you?
@MACtinix3 I did not post this to be rude, it was constructive criticism for Elle. I am a journalist, I know what I am talking about. Thank you for the comment though.
@nutmeggreenpurple lmao yeah, i'm sure you're a 'journalist'. "you just said way too many details" .. i believe a journalist would say, " you gave away too many details". just sayin.
@MACtinix3 I didn't realize my Honours BA in Journalism was going to be scrutinized on YouTube comments. This is silly and a waste of time, I am entitled to my opinion and I gave it to Elle. I am finished discussing this, thank you for your comments.
Hi Elle, I 've been following your ideas of Glitterature.....I feel that your personality about books are really similar to my own passion( When I read books and I get into it.. until the end)..The only difference is that I read books in spanish... I have been here in states for 2 years.... I was searching for something fun and interesting to read in english to expand my vocabulary and knowlege, about this culture....and others. So I'm going to read both of this books that your recomend. Thanks!
i read both of these books because of your white queen review. i didn't like how people talked bad about the white queens witchcraft in the red queen because i loved that part of her! but i found myself wanting the red queen to win the battle at the end of the book.
@kam2490 you have read those books? can you tell me if the vocabulary is easy to read? i'm interested in these books but i won't be able to read it properly if the texts are too sophisticated.
@alterna You should be fine. The vocabulary wasn't bad. If you're worried you won't be able to get into it check it out from the library or something that way if you don't like it you didn't waste money on buying it.
The fairytale where the husband screwes prostitutes after killing hundreds of men. At more than one occasion. Since he was known as a "warrior-king". Yeah. Nice one..
@Pinksparks1537 I won't say so, i'd say you'd get along just fine thinking of the characters as just that, Characters, like in any normal fiction novel:D
@Pinksparks1537 I knew nothing about it and I read these books and was fine. It did get a little confusing with all of the people and they have similar names but you should be fine.
@Pinksparks1537 not really i didn't know very much about European history. but i still loves these books. it explains what you need to know in the book
@Pinksparks1537 No. Though I'm from England I don't know a whole lot about my country's history way, way, way back in the day but I found that the book explains everything. It's a tad confusing with the multiple Henrys, Edwards, Richards, etc. but there's a family tree at the start.
@Pinksparks1537 No but ofourse it helps.. And you can actually learn some things from these kinds of books if you're not that into learning "the school way".
Hi Elle! Firstly, thanks for all the book reviews you're doing! I was waiting for a plane in Barcelona airport and I saw The Red Queen in the book store. I HAD to have it because I had seen your review on the White Queen. I'm about half way through with it and love it (I'm a sucker for the history of England and the royal family, so this is my cup of tea). I felt, just like you, that the story is a bit depressing and sad. The White Queen is definitely next in line for me! :) Have a great day!
i realy want to read the white queen but right now i have three other books sitting in my shelf waiting for me to read them, but i haven't got much time, school is getting harder and my time runs out, still i love glitterature videos, they're very relaxing and nice to watch before bedtime :)
I enjoyed this book :) I thought there was a little loving connection between Margaret and Jasper (her 1st husband's brother) toward the end? But maybe that's just me being a hopeless romantic ;)

the lady of the rivers is fabulous! i've read all of three of the books and love them. but the white queen and lady of the rivers were my favorite. also the constant princess has the has the red queen in as the king's mother then grandmother.

I am reading the Red Queen right now and I haven't read the White Queen yet... I feel bad for her and I really like her character right now but then again I haven't read the other one...

Do you think you would have connected more with the red queen if you had read it first; rather than the white queen?
argentinachina22 3 months ago
You need to read Queen's Fool by the same author. It was AMAZING!

do you have an order that you recommend reading those books?

You know that by Red and White queen shes talking about the war of the roses. The House of Lancaster had the White rose while the House of York had the Red rose
KristenBarger8 3 months ago
@KristenBarger8 It's kind of funny since the name of the war itself is inaccurate. The Red rose was the symbol of the House of Tudor, not the House of York.

Elle, did you read "The Other Queen"? did you like it?
isap0007 3 months ago
Its a good thing I didn't want to read these books, because you just said way too many details... i like to be surprised. Read the back of the book, tell us how you feel and leave it at that... describing actual events in the book is irritating and doesn't make me interested.
nutmeggreenpurple 3 months ago
@nutmeggreenpurple how did she spoil anything? the back of the book probably goes more into detail than she even did, no need to be rude just to be rude. and if you didn't want to read them anyway, than what's it to you?
MACtinix3 3 months ago 22
@MACtinix3 I did not post this to be rude, it was constructive criticism for Elle. I am a journalist, I know what I am talking about. Thank you for the comment though.
nutmeggreenpurple 3 months ago
@nutmeggreenpurple lmao yeah, i'm sure you're a 'journalist'. "you just said way too many details" .. i believe a journalist would say, " you gave away too many details". just sayin.
MACtinix3 3 months ago
@MACtinix3 I didn't realize my Honours BA in Journalism was going to be scrutinized on YouTube comments. This is silly and a waste of time, I am entitled to my opinion and I gave it to Elle. I am finished discussing this, thank you for your comments.
nutmeggreenpurple 3 months ago
Hi Elle, I 've been following your ideas of Glitterature.....I feel that your personality about books are really similar to my own passion( When I read books and I get into it.. until the end)..The only difference is that I read books in spanish... I have been here in states for 2 years.... I was searching for something fun and interesting to read in english to expand my vocabulary and knowlege, about this culture....and others. So I'm going to read both of this books that your recomend. Thanks!

I was hoping my library would have these books available to download on my kindle, but they don't have any of her books in kindle formats. :(
I might buy them, depending on how much they cost. They sound really good and I've had a hard time finding good books lately..

danilovesmexxxxx 3 months ago
i read both of these books because of your white queen review. i didn't like how people talked bad about the white queens witchcraft in the red queen because i loved that part of her! but i found myself wanting the red queen to win the battle at the end of the book.
kam2490 3 months ago
@kam2490 you have read those books? can you tell me if the vocabulary is easy to read? i'm interested in these books but i won't be able to read it properly if the texts are too sophisticated.
alterna 3 months ago
@alterna You should be fine. The vocabulary wasn't bad. If you're worried you won't be able to get into it check it out from the library or something that way if you don't like it you didn't waste money on buying it.
kam2490 3 months ago
The fairytale where the husband screwes prostitutes after killing hundreds of men. At more than one occasion. Since he was known as a "warrior-king". Yeah. Nice one..

Do you need to know the European history to really understand these books?
Pinksparks1537 3 months ago 26
@Pinksparks1537 I won't say so, i'd say you'd get along just fine thinking of the characters as just that, Characters, like in any normal fiction novel:D
SianStoker 3 months ago
@Pinksparks1537
I think the whole idea is that it helps you understand more, but creating a scandaloous storyline at the same time :) <3
BelleMademoiselleVie 3 months ago
@Pinksparks1537 I knew nothing about it and I read these books and was fine. It did get a little confusing with all of the people and they have similar names but you should be fine.
kam2490 3 months ago
@Pinksparks1537 not really i didn't know very much about European history. but i still loves these books. it explains what you need to know in the book
thesummerqueen17 3 months ago
@Pinksparks1537 definitely not
alexashae 3 months ago
@Pinksparks1537 No. Though I'm from England I don't know a whole lot about my country's history way, way, way back in the day but I found that the book explains everything. It's a tad confusing with the multiple Henrys, Edwards, Richards, etc. but there's a family tree at the start.
vergilxyamato 3 months ago
@Pinksparks1537 No but ofourse it helps.. And you can actually learn some things from these kinds of books if you're not that into learning "the school way".

What is the best order to read them in?
TesLinda4 3 months ago 2
:) Have a great day!
marissarose007 3 months ago
Oh if you haven;t read any of them, read lady of the rivers, then the white queen then the red queen! :)
princessxpunz 3 months ago
you need to read lady of the rivers - its better than the white and the red queen!
princessxpunz 3 months ago
i realy want to read the white queen but right now i have three other books sitting in my shelf waiting for me to read them, but i haven't got much time, school is getting harder and my time runs out, still i love glitterature videos, they're very relaxing and nice to watch before bedtime :)
