  • i luv my BGE. It seems to have a thick coating of soot or something on the inside and it gives an odor. my wife does not like the smell or taste of things that i cook. may be im using the wrong kind of charcoal. its lump charcoal mesquite, best of the west. i use it alot, twice a week for over 5 yrs and have never really cleaned it at all. i will definatley get rid of all ash tomorrow. any sugestions on really really cleaning it

  • @g383838 It could be the mesquite charcoal. Suggest you get a bag of "regular" lump charcoal and try that. Also, do a "clean burn" ... put charcoal in , light it and remove the top and open the screen at the bottom and let it get extremely hot and burn for an hour or more ..it will totally clean out the inside ...when you open it, the next day, it should be almost white inside.
