Plus, you gotta realize Down isn't a heavy metal band like Slayer or Machinehead, they're more rock and roll and hard rock than heavy metal really, they dont use double bass drumming of insanely fast/demanding passages like death metal or thrash bands. Down is all about groove and sludgey feel to the music, its not some insanely fast shit like thrash

Your arguement makes absolutely no sense. Seeing as the first ever heavy metal band, the legendary Black Sabbath didn't use double bass drums and the vast majority of Iommi's riffs are slow tempo, dark and heavy as fuck. Thrash metal/death metal are only sub-genres of heavy metal, not heavy metal itself. Down are much more like the heavy metal bands of old, much more blusey (see Sabbath as an example of the blues influence). So get fucked mate, Down are one of the heaviest bands out

Pantera was a different band, different sound. Down is more southern rock-oriented and blues in many aspects, but with a doom/stoner/sludge metal edge to it. Pantera was a more straightforward groove-metal affair with a touch of southern and blues.

I prefer Down to be honest. Phils able to showcase more of his vocal range and talents than in Pantera.
