  • We should have landed Prob on 2005 Asteroid and study it. I thought it might be good idea to ketch this Rock either Mining it or controlling it with booster rocket and use it for future threatening close encounter Asteroids like Billard Cue ball nocking threat away from Earth.

  • what time will it pass in central time zone?

  • Its not going to hit im actually looking foward to it. However to cheer you up keep pressing 3 lol

  • We're gonna die.

  • Just blast it, with your eyes!! Check EyeAsteroids

  • Awesome Space geekery things = Astronomical Events (don't you just love the glee generation when daddy buys them a telescope?)

  • what sort of word is geekery? how come we have to allow idiots label something they don't get it for those who do get it? snap out of this complex, call something by it's name and move on with the science! it doesnt have to be cool to be interesting!

  • @Venediktou It can be cool and interesting. The Internet is filled with science and education that is just boring. Heck, I'm interested in the topic and some sources put me to sleep. Instead of waste my time producing stuff like that, I like to have fun with the video. Things like Yu55 get me excited, and this is my way of showing it. Having some fun while getting other excited about something they maybe wouldn't normally be interested in is what I love to do and I see no issue with that.

  • @spacevidcast I agree the approach is correct. Science must be brought to the audience using the language of the audience. But the introduction as "space geekery things" sounds bad. It's linguistic poverty, where we only know and use 10 words and have to use combinations of these 10 words to make up others. TV culture, use what sells, discart 80% end up with 20% of linguistic ability. I know this is an astronomy show but don't allow idiots steal the wealth of your language dude! The beuty of it!

  • @Venediktou Ah, but that's how I speak in real life. I actually enjoy making up words (which usually fails in an epic fit of laughter) and using English in very unique and strange ways to make a point. Makes life more fun. Yes, I have used scrumtrulescent in a real sentence before.

  • @spacevidcast Damn... now i feel bad for being so picky... I got to apologise, come to think of it, you put all the effort to make a show and it must be a labour of enthusiasm and here i come making comments about the way you present it. Thank's dude for the report and it was a good one, honestly!

  • @Venediktou HA! Don't feel bad. I love feedback and if you take the time to send comments in a non-trolling way, I'll take the time to reply. I may not agree, but I'll explain my side and see where it goes. Appreciate the nice feedback though. And if you want to see truly butchered English, check out the latest SpacePod. Only a few words in and I began to stumble on "November" and it went downhill from there. We were able to edit a lot of it out, but there was a lot of swearing involved :)

  • @spacevidcast swearing is good! it feeds the soul! I'll go check it out, wait for it!

  • Are you going to broadcast any of that live on the UStream channel?

  • @Richmunnich Alas, our Ustream channel is not yet back online. Likely won't be back up full time until early 2012.

  • Can you please do a topic on 99942 Apophis

  • "Interplanetory"?

  • @FredPilcher Correct. Travel between Earth and Mars would be considered interplanetary. Go to: answers com /topic/interplanetary for some more info, although it basically says, "Existing or occurring between planets."

  • @spacevidcast Interplanetary, yes. Interplanetory, no.

  • @FredPilcher HA! Don't watch this coming Wednesday's SpacePod when I completely fumble over "November". It's pretty nasty (and a bit funny).

  • @FredPilcher That's the Canadian Pronunciation.

  • @FredPilcher You're the kind of dork a room full of dorks looks at and says "what's wrong with that dork?"

  • Any estimate on the actual magnitude during periapsis?

  • Comment removed

  • @WoodstockHiker

    That language is uncalled for.

  • preserve me in this message and thumbs up :P

  • It's a camouflaged Death Star.

  • Thats no asteroid, it's a space station.

  • @1594615 *Gaaasp* Oh wait... no that's clearly an asteroid. Dammit Obi Wan, you just scared the crap outta me!

  • Why aren't we launching some mission to YU55 for investigating the composition of it or something?

  • @dutchuniverse We are. It is close enough that we can do it from Earth, which is far more cost effective.
