  • I'm soo hooked. I love these guys. It's all my Dad's fault.

  • visti all'aleph club 20 anni fa .....great fuckin band! aussies rock!

  • I was at this show! It was '87 and every bit as brilliant as this suggests. An incredible band then and now.

I was down in front by Brad Shepherd... remember it vividly.

It was at the Nectarine Ballroom (formerly the Second Chance) in Ann Arbor, which used to regularly have punk and indie shows. Now it's just a disco, called Necto.

  • I was there too! They filmed the concert for some European/Australian TV show, and I was standing in the balcony next to the VJ. (I must have been right next to the camera shooting at 2:20 and 3:20.) I was wearing a bright yellow sweater, so I'm sure if I ever find that footage I'll be quite visible. I've been looking for it...

  • Same voice from B52's ????

  • Great lead voice and harmony. Never got to see them live, but this clip proves just how talented they were/are

  • They sound Midnight Oil , and a touch of INXS. Nothing wrong with that. Great sound ! Hopefully still around ?

  • I am lookng for video of any kind for "I was the one"'

  • I was too, but I only found poor quality live versions (one, at least). I love that song, I think it's the perfect breakup eulogy, and it takes me back to a very sentimentally crammed period of my life!

  • us aussies try to be selfish but you cant hold a good band down, Hoodoo Gurus take a bow, hook writers extraordinaire.

  • Yep,some GURU's before a surf always goes down a treat.

  • THEY ARE SOOOO FU*KIN GREAT its not funny THE BEST SUMMER MUSIC GO TO A BEACH AND PUT ON SOME GURUS

  • @HUGEcockmann I'm hearing you mate... I went to their final "Sit the Dummy Tour" and damn i missed them after that!

The Hoodoo's for me were camping and surfing trips up the Nth Coast of NSW over the Xmas season... Oh the memories....

  • @austcommdiver

oh man i just missed them again in the last few years at BB kings mayber i didnt have any way of knowing i could use my own shoe to kick myself......derrrrrrrrrrrr

  • I was at this show. Super fantastic!!! The Gurus are one of the tightest live bands I've ever seen. They blew the roof off this place--Ann Arbor was never the same again!!!! Thanks for posting this.

  • was this show at The State Theater or the Blind Pig?

  • An interesting comment. .about the Bangles. The last time I saw the Gurus, they were teamed with the Bangles . .doing an outdoor spring concert at Emory U. in Atlanta. Around '85. Using a makeshift stage, the accoustics were lousy and the Emory nerds not very musical savvy, but both bands rocked. I had a crush on Michael Steel of the Bangles and I think she was dating one of the guys in the Gurus around that time. I can't believe it's been over 20 yrs. They still sound great.

  • I saw them on this tour as well, in Hamilton Ont. at Chuggies I think? The campus pub. Anyway we had beers and hash with them between sets cause we were in college radio broadcasting. Perks...great guys and musicians. Or I think we did. My memory is fuzzy. Maybe just me smoking the hash. Rocking Show. Dave had the same shirt on.

  • Have not heard this in fifteen years. Brings back memories. Where are the Bangles?

  • One of the great, underappreciated bands of the 80-90's. One of the best live bands of that era, and the garage guitars not matched by many other bands.

  • These guys are just fantastic! I have seen them a couple of times in the USA, but the show in Brisbane end of 2005 blew my world! Don't miss an opportunity to see a band that has had a tremendous influence on indie rock!

  • Long Live the Gurus! I saw them a couple of times in the 80's and they are truly a High-Octane Rock and Roll band that wrote songs that should have been all over commercial radio at the time. I'm glad they still get together and play from time to time.

  • I saw this show at the Nectarine Ballroom in Ann Arbor, late '86 or early '87. It was recorded for broadcast on some TV show (I don't think it was MTV, but perhaps something similar from another country). The "VJ" was standing on the balcony (stage left) and I stood right next to her. I'd love to see some of that footage, as I'm sure I'm heavily featured :-)

  • Oh my God! Thanks so much for posting this...Ive had the fondest memories of these guys! :-)

  • Was this show at the nectarine ballroom?

  • This is one of my favourite songs by the Gurus. Did they ever make a music video for this song?

  • When was this?

  • Looks to me like the '87 North American tour when I saw them in Lawrence, Kansas.

  • And SxSW Music Festival.

And at The Abbey in Chicago on 3/25.

  • They'll be at BB Kings in NYC on March 20th 2007

  • Log live the Gurus! Thanks for posting :)

  • these guys rule. I am from Michigan but this show is prior to the one I went to. When I was in Brisbane last year doing some doc work, I saw them. It made my trip!

  • thanks so much..
