  • to the 23 people who disliked this video i am pretty sure you are not watching the same video as me this guy iis a wonderful role model he never gave up and this is how we all should be and i am pretty sure none of you would have the guts to do that. and if a bike ride gets to hard you probably go run to mommies lap. he finished that marathon with a hurt hamstring this also goes to the guys with the negative comments.

  • I DONT KNOW, CHEER OF THE GAMES? I'm not sure what happened cuz its all edited into oblivion!!!!

  • ONCE again I CAN NOT find the origal video.

  • i know that

  • This gave me a feel

  • Derek and his father are some of the most hardcore badasses out there.

  • Fucking ninjas chopping onions all over this place

  • black mans first reaction to pulling hamstring is "i got shot" heh...

  • ha @LTliamtate FUCK YOUR ASSHOLE

  • perfection is being able to look your friends and family in the face, with truth in your heart and let them know that you gave your all. You sir are the definition of perfection!

  • in this day and age that father would have been tasered way before he even got to him. smh. people in authority sometimes sicken me.

  • Beautiful relationship between father and son... just like Team Hoyt

  • Derek Redmond call still outrun 95% of the world on one leg

  • YOUR MY FUCKING HERO BRO

  • My church pastor used this video to explain how to finish with Jesus as number 1. This is an inspiration.

  • I cried watching this. Just wished my dad was supportive like dereks one. May god bless u man

  • Simply touching. A really beautiful moment.

  • 22 people are cock-gobblers.

  • Not many will remember who won the gold in the 400m in 1992...few will care about it in the years to come...But no one will forget Redmond's courage to finish the race.

  • HIS DAD IS GOIN TO CARRY THE OLYMPIC TORCH, he fully deserves it

  • Everytime I watch this it makes me cry!

  • This video makes me cry . . . awesome moment in time . . what a dad . .

  • Lo sport ha un suo Dio!

  • i hope the dream team was watching this so the could have been inspired to win the gold

  • he maybe a different culer to me but he is still a winner a champ and a hero in my books

  • @LTliamtate Who the fuck cares what color a person is man.

  • @saveltoros I know, just as long as he's not a muslim it's all good. They are the real scum.

  • @DLarson1083 Yeah, I fucking knifed one of those muslim dogs before, too bad he didn't die.

  • @LTliamtate You bellend!!!

  • Do I know who the winner of this race is? NO. Do I know who Derek Redmond is? YES AND FOREVER. His actions is equal to 10000000 gold medals.

  • @littletennisking This. soo fucking this.

  • FIND OUT WHAT'S POSSIBLE IF YOU NEVER GIVE UP!! You Rock Derek! Keep on trying and maybe someday.......

  • I don't remember this happening at all- I was 13 years old and I was a track athlete myself back then- so seems strange that this is only news to me TODAY (after reading it on the BBC).

Already reading the article on the BBC the event made me a bit teary eyed- so I decided to youtube it. After watching it now, I just broke down in tears as much as I tried to resist. Unbearably sad!

  • @MrThe1messiah after seeing this video I realize how truly blessed he is to have a father who would step up and hold up his son during this trying time.......Wish I could have said the same of my parents.....there should be more father's in this world like that one....God Bless....

  • he's crying because of the excruciating pain that comes for tearing your hamstrings

  • @lololalagaga

He is not crying because of the pain you idiot. He carried on limping on the track because he couldn't accept his fate- that he wouldn't make the final. In those split seconds your mind will not accept whats just happened, understandably so, after training your whole life for this occasion.

The saddest bit is when his dad arrives and hobbles with him, that's when he fully realises- it doesn't matter what I do now its all over- no Olympic final and bursts into tears

  • This happened when I was 1 year old, and I only just read about it. But this is what the Olympics are all about. Sometimes these moments overshadow the glory of winning

  • Love that he him and his dad just ignore the jobsworth officials.

  • People saying to him "walk it off". FUCK you assholes

  • This inspires me to stretch my right thigh before running.

  • God this made me cry.

  • 2,363 likes, 22 dislikes <<<<< wtf?? lol some peeps.

  • 16 Years later. The Just Do It hat was taken by Nike

  • his dad makes me take mine for granted

    love you dad!

  • derek won the race for me

  • WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE SONG PLAYING????

  • @akeith13 Justin Bieber feat Selena Gomez - Ripped pants.

  • 21 people are not human.

  • His hat says " Just DO it".. Well man..you did and you are hero now!! Excellent

  • 21 dislikes WTF!!!

  • i miss my dad,,... gonna go to home this xmas season,,..

  • u r champion in my heart

  • I really don't wanna be negative... but the first thing that I noticed when i saw his father approaching was the moto of nike "just do it" . Isn't it possible to be just another marketing trick from nike? I hope not, because such stories can, really, give courage and strength, but I have my doubts...

  • @LetonisC

    ...

    He's sponsored by adidas so...

  • @LetonisC im sure your right, as i recall they only ever made one Nike hat like that and it wasn't like that style of hat was popular in 1992,your definitely on to something here, as i recall Derek Redmond trained religiously for 4 years after missing out on Seoul 88 on the premise that in the semi final he'd fake a hamstring injury for what amounts to a viral advert for Nike. your some kind of genius..... the fact that the first thing you notices was a Nike hat is very very sad.

  • His dad had a Nike sponsorship????

  • πάνω απ'όλα ανθρωπιά ρεε !

  • αυτη ειναι η μαγεια του αθλητισμου !!

  • So touching...

  • my dad want to give up with my sport, i show him this , and show him how father need to support i one who dont wana to give up!! Do you know what was my dad reaction??? Its better to dont know....

  • I want to cry...

  • the devil's number for an angelic video

  • Derek just showed the world the true meaning of sports.

  • The most inspiring video

  • the gringos people always wanna be heroes, if you want to see real courage you had to see "john Stephen atwani in mexico 68 olimpics"

  • Comment removed

  • @archernator47 He's from England

  • YOU DON'T HAVE TO COME IN FIRST PLACE TO BE A CHAMPION - MY RESPECT TO YOU AND YOUR DAD DEREK.

  • for the men that didn/t grow up with a father this is what a man is not bragging bout how many women you sleep with or who rims the biggest or who the cleanest we have to get back to being this can of man God set the stanard of what a man is anything else is not being a man and weither we live that way or not God is going to judge us by his standard

  • The man has a great father but it's still a sad story. To be in the olympics, with the best of the best. Look like you might win, then suddenly you a muscle and it's over like that. It's not fair, but he didn't give up, he kept trying to run but his dad came and gave him reality of the solution and the rest is one of the saddest moment in sports history. God Bless.

  • THIS IS SO TOUCHING

  • He is the real winner for me!

    great father!

  • damn onions...

  • goddamn onions

  • Black People first reflex when getting an injury : have i been shot?

  • @qgshadow you're not funny asshole. this man carries the true olympic spirit, u carry nothing.

  • ;')

  • What a dad ....

  • yes he did not win the race but he is one of the biggest athlets ever

  • Hi everyone I am 10 years old and I am turning 11 this month and I am in 5th grade.

This morning I watched this video and I was crying because it was so sad so anyone who watched this I hope you feel what I felt and great job Derek Redmon. :)

  • @Funnyidiot123 You're too sensitive lol

  • i don't remember who won that race, but i've remembered this moment for 19 years.

  • This is beautiful.

  • to continue to run with that leg shows he was number 1.

  • Genuinely brought tears to my eyes, second greatest inspirational moment after cool runnings, where they too finished their race.

  • Dads rule!!

  • It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get up. Very inspiring video.

  • He win but not with the champion he wins the trust from his self

  • Legend mate. legend

  • when i was 12 i had a 300 m race i was so excited i couldnt wait i wanted to give it all my strength i fell down around 110meters my knees were pouring blood...i brushed away my tears and looked in the sky and said im not done yet....i gave it all my stregth every bit i ran so fast when i got to the finish i just kept on running this reminded me of that btw im 13 now :P

  • his never-give-up spirit has touched me.

  • Hang on a minute. Google Sharon Davies: former British swimmer: and have a look at her. Derek Redmond was shagging the arse off her at the time. I have no sympathy for the lucky bastard. He should look at the old cow I'm hanging out of and pity me ;o)

  • men no matter how just go for the goal!

  • It's funny because usually people remember who was first, who won the race but in this case...all they remember is him and his dad. Great moment in sports history. Makes me cry, it's just beautiful.

  • the most inspirational clip ever to appear on tv or anywhere!!!!!!

  • 15 ppl are cool blood

  • he didn't win but he won the hearts of millions. that's a true champion.

  • Very touching

  • avram grant at 1.47!!!!!!

  • @madgwao hahaha

  • Isn't it amazing that his dad is wearing a hat that says "just do it"

  • I think the Dad's hat sums it all up...

  • Redmond my name Edmond ...i feel full of win right now

  • I don't understand... when people reply to me, their comment appears underneath mine. When I reply to them, my comment goes right to the front of the comments.

  • how dare you dislike this video.

  • although his father may broke the rule, but the way he done it for his son.... how touching~~!

  • This vid is not about how much he trained or how poorly prepared he was. It was about having that enviable attitude, to go on no matter what.

To the 15 idiots, here are 1516 people showing you the finger.

  • That was a beautiful act by a Father that loves his Son,,,, Incredible

  • I met him in 05 when he told his story at my school, Due to my age at the time I never knew who he was.. But I found a picture with me and him.. looked him up, and found this video now, And im amazed I never knew of him!

  • What courageous man!

  • Derek's Dad - what a GradeA Dude. He'd be shot in the current climate and the Met would claim him as a rioter/terrorist for steaming onto the track.

  • I needed some inspiration to finish off my writing and this video really helped...it is very emotional I nearly cried watching it

  • @freedom4syria2000 You should watch this while playing "you raised me up" in the background. you will flood in tears.

  • @supersamster911 I already watched it with "you raised me up" and yeah I was in tears ... I now have it saved on my iTunes playlist -- an extremely uplifting video for when the going gets tough

  • @freedom4syria2000 awesome wasn't it? inspired me...

  • hate see if it been the 10000 metres final, father prob be like emmmmm il wait till the last lap..... if u get offended with this remark cop on lol its funny, fair play to the dad though

  • Derek's fathers' cap is inspirational.

  • You are always winner

  • That day everyone who watched from the stands and from tv around the world saw something special.

  • I used this video as inspiration for my Year 6 class as the starting point of the year. It truly helped them to understand that it's how you run the race.

  • Awesome - I am was so moved by Derek's father supporting him all the way! Derek you are an incredible inspiration to "never never give up!" Thank you!
