This example of a mammy was actually false in real life. During the era of Jim Crow the black women that were housekeepers were actually light skinned (children of rape) thin due to malnourisment, and less than 10% of them lived to reach age 50 due to the physical and breeding abuse. There are pictures to prove it. This depiction of a black housekeeper in the south is false. Once again, white people using tactics to hide guilt.
WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INFORMATION? WHAT GUILT. The breeding darkies have done on their own to themselves have ruined entire cities. Detroit, St. Louis, Philladelphia, Washington D.C., New Orleans, Atlanta, Memphis, YOU DON'T HEAR OF ANYONE MAKING DINNER RESERVATIONS IN COMPTON RESTAURANTS. ...After Katrina, that exodus to Houston is irreperable. Filth, squaller, decay, and disgusting living conditions. MAMMY WOULD HAVE KICK ALL YOUR DARK ASSES. Get it straight. Black H.Mo.
It has often been said that 1939 was the definitive, watershed moment in the motion picture industry. This film definitely serves as irrefutable proof of that theory, compounded beyond question by second to none performances by Clark Gable, Vivian Leigh and the great, great, great Hattie McDaniel. God bless them!
Ive always loved this tune and this version is truely by far the best.I have this song on player piano roll and as though it doesnt sound as good as this clip , i should perhaps put on my page for those who may be interested.
The very best version of "Tara's Theme" I have ever heard. I work as a radio announcer and worked at a station many years ago that would play this version of the song. Thanks for posting it!
You're most welcome and I share your enthusiasm for this recording. I think I mentioned it's the first I heard as a kid, as my dad played it on his reel-to-reel from Percy Faith's best hits. I'm torn between which of the many orchestral versions of Tara' Theme is my favorite... but this one is brilliant, no question.

@jerzee745 Please, get your history correct! This movie took place before Jim Crowe existed. Nothing worse than a stupid black person!
