Don't take this personally, but your voice annoys me; It sounds really pretentious and snobbish. Also, do you just read slow or were you trying to go slow on purpose? The speed makes you sound over exaggerated or like you think you're speaking to morons. Again, this is not meant to be taken personally, but as a professional criticism.
@Rifftiff Oh, no, don't worry, it definitely did, you do sound somewhat professional in the video. I have loved your videos every since I discovered them, it was just this particular video I heard that in.
@Firecat0 Are you a professional? Because this does not sound like a professional criticism to me at all. Not quite the right word choice for that, this sounds more like a stab, regardless of you saying it is not. When I made this years ago, I was trying to sound professional when I read it, not stuck up. I'm sorry if anybody took it that way. But being older now, I realize YouTube isn't a place for professionalism anyways.
@Rifftiff Nope, I'm not. I admit it wasn't quite the right word, but it was late and I didn't feel like trying to figure it out. Just hearing you speak that way made me feel like you thought I, as a listener, was below you. I was understandably irritated.
By the way, it sounds better in your videos if you speak to people as though they're your equals/people you know; It isn't as awkward sounding. If you haven't already, work so that you can get to where you read as fast as you speak.
@Firecat0 If you do not feel like figuring out the correct wording, then do not take claim to a "professional criticism." It's not very professional. Regardless, as I said, I was simply a teenager experimenting with making something that sounded professional, not belittling. If I saw myself as above everyone, I would have not made this. So it is extremely sad that you mistook my (at-the-time) amateur scriptreading as a superiority complex.
@Rifftiff We've already established that professional was the wrong word for what I meant, so emphasizing that what I said wasn't professional is pointless. I never said that you -actually- thought you were above anyone; just that your voice sounded that way. As the video was a long time ago, there is no point in dragging out this disagreement.
I need a better mic for sure. I've been told the acting I use in Horror Housemates is okey but the mic quality sucks. Hahah I have been using a lil cheapy one but I'm getting a new one. Thinks for the vid. ^^
I love voice acting. I want to be a voice actress, but there aren't any for my age. My parents would never let me download that stuff. Free or not. I'm too shy to do the voice for any of my RP characters, so no one of YouTube even wants me to be in their YouTube series. I have no career as a voice actress...
@SaiyanPrincessMrina not if you think like that...the only mic in my house is my dad wait let me refraise that my over protective dad...no one every said tat u needed BOTH parents permission
@SaiyanPrincessMrina Hey just keep on trying! If you wanna be a voice actress then you gotta have tough skin! Just keep on auditioning for stuff! There will be a part for you! Plus right now auditioning is practicing! When you get older you can take classes or you can even take classes now! And professional gigs don't just appear you need an agent! It may seem hard but if you really want to than you can do it! JUST KEEP TRYING!
@SaiyanPrincessMrina OMG Id LOVE to train with u! My parents are sweet and are doing everything they can for me to become a Voice Actress too! I'm 16 and I can do probably more voices than I think but im still practicing xD I should probably show you my evil queen like voice lol and my sexy-talk prince voice and all but dont give up! We could train together! :D I got a software with a microphone and a pitch changer if i need it. But yea I'm having fun :) id love to help u out ^.^ whats RP btw?
@SaiyanPrincessMrina omg Id love to train with you I'm also learning to be a Voice Actress! I can do an english type accent narration of a female voice, I can do a mid-voiced male gangsta, a hot-valley girl teenager, etc! but im still practicing lol Id love to help you and do some voice acting with you! I love voice acting its so much fun ^.^ i hate being on stage so i practice with my TV shows and movies I love watching and I practice lip syncing but yea :D I'm 16 btw Lol
@SaiyanPrincessMrina Hey there! I've just been browsing various voice acting videos and came across this one. Then I read your comment, and I thought 'Oh I HAVE to reply to that!' because I am currently looking for voice actors! I don't mind what age you are, after reading your comment here I'm really interested on what your voice would sound like.
Have a look on my channel for my video about my animation and PLEASE audition, or at least message me back on this.
Hey, theGirlflippy here, good tut! Just wondering, would you like to be in my seris, Deliver the evil?? It's about dragons, by the way. Please, I really like your voice!
Holy Crap! You have an extremely cute sounding voice! =D
well first off, this is a pretty good tutorial! I'm not a professional voice actor, but i do hope to one day become one! =3 If you like hearing Voice acting, you should check out my uploads for some Transformers stuff I've done and a few other things! =D
Anyway very good advice, I've been using the program Audacity for Years literally! Its Such a good program! My microphone is pretty good, but do you have a suggestions on good mike's?
1:44 I hold the mic *because* I can change the volume by moving it (or myself or both) away. It's to help with those shouting, screaming and just downright any loud note that comes my way. It very much helps avoid that buzzy feedback when the sound gets too loud and the mic can't handle.
Thank you for this video. It was amazingly helpful. I just realized a bunch of stuff that I have done wrong in my auditions, such as mention the director and holding the microphone in my hand. You can get a mic stand at any music store right? Do you know how much they cost?
WOW i love the way your voice sounds i can only make mine sound like an adult or a small child im trying to get in the middle like pre teen or teens. but you rock!
Everything you said I already knew but i'm actually very glad you made this video. It really is a great idea to let other ppl know wat we know. You don't wanna ramble you want quality and you wanna make sure its right. Smart girl smart movie ^_^ thx for mak'n it
Great tutorial, though, despite the fact that I do not appreciate you implications at 0:34. I do believe that you implied that a machinima series is not a creative or artistic one. On the contrary, the creaters of machinima videos are absolutely creative, given the fact that they must create their series based on the boudaries within their given game. I'm trying to create one right now, but it isn't really working out...
Haha. Sorry about that little rant there. But fabulous work.
I am looking for people to be in my voiceover. That means: I need an adult woman, two teenage/young adult guys, a little girl, a little boy, a boy a little older than that, a young teenage girl, and an older teenage girl. This series is going to be a film in multiple parts. If you are interested in being in this, send me a private message.
You have a very nice voice, and you know what you're talking about. :o I'm making an anime, and you are exaclty right with how we dont want to listen to rambling lol. You seem very professional. :3
Can't believe you don't do machinima. seems it'd be a great way to get your voice out there. I personally do any form of voice acting ona way more personal level until I actually sharpen my acting abilities. My usual work consists of scaring away telemarketers, prank calling, or just making people laugh. so my questions are 1) can you give a tutorial on how to use audacity, I'm no good with it and 2) do you know of anyone on youtube who provides good voice acting lessons? lol
@Rifftiff oh well that explains it lol, yeah it is fun and I like the feeling when a friend hands you a phone at their own house to do it, a feeling of sucess? If you ever do do an Audacity tutorial letme now, me and my bro have alot of fun messing around on it, but to actually now what we're messing with might help out our fun lol
i started the script and i realised that writing takes too long and my attention span is that of a hamster... pre recording be damned on to the booth [bathroom]

In my opinion, no they are not. Those are made more for gaming/online chat. They generally don't have the best quality, and the mic is to close to your face. There's no way to be far away from it... That's just my opinion.
i finally downloaded everything but every time i try and save it it adds a VOICE LOGO thingy it ruin my recording. how do i get it not to add a VOICE LOGO?
Honestly, I have no idea. I'm sure there is some program you can download somewhere, but I have a better suggestion. If you are wanting to get lines form people who auditioned, or people you have cast, just have them email you the sound files. :] It makes a lot more sense.
I use my Karaoke Revolution Headset for recording. Which worked fine at first but now I get horrible feedback and it rings in my ears when I try to record and it's only when I talk. Do you think you can help me with this problem?
Probably not. i'm not that tech savvy or anything. But I would suggest just getting a new mic anyway, because I don't like headsets for voice acting. The mic is always too close to your face. :]
I've done some Crash badicoo character voice acting vids here... Can you see my vids and tell me if I'm good enough? (or if I saved it in a decet format?)
Could you let me know some things that you have voice acted for. I find your voice beautiful. And any suggestions as to some samples in which I can practice? PM me if you can :)
Thanks for the tips!!! Voice acting has always been my dream job, but I have yet to actually take acting classes....Anyway I'm thinking about practicing with fan dubs, but I was wondering if there was a particular kind of mic you could recommend?
Well, any mic will work, as long as it is compatible with your computer. If you have the money, I suggest buying a higher quality mic, but if you have to, you can use the microphone from a playstation or wii, or whatever you have accessible.
1. ) say the name of the boy/girl u like 2 times. 2. ) now say the name of your best friend 5 times to urself. 3. ) now post this onto 5 videos and then press F8 and then ur crushes name will APPEAR ON THE SCREEN
How do you know what a good voice for a character is? Should you just use your regular, normal voice, or try to use a different voice to (in your opinion) suit the character?
Well it all depends on the character you're looking at. Sometimes your own voice will work but sometimes not. You have to really look at hints that the director gives you. Like age and certain characteristics. But in the end, every character is up to the actor's interpretation. :]
Well it depends on the computer you have. Mine has a special port for microphones located next to the headphone jack. But some don't, and if that's the case, then you'll need to use a usb mic instead.
i think..(im not positive) that you can also change your recording to an mp3 like this:
if you have itunes you can save your file and drag and drop it onto itunes. then you go to advanced and select "change to mp3" and then select the track and click "change"...
im not sure which way is easiest, but id do that if you have itunes.
This was a very helpful and professional demonstration! Thanks! I've always been interested in doing voice acting but never was sure how was the best way to record for an audition or what programs I should use.
Thank you so much for this! I'm doing a production and about to put out a request for voice auditions, would you mind if I link to your video for those who might be interested?
yes, it does. I use it all the time. Are you exporting your audio as WAV or MP3? Or are you just saving it as and Audacity Project file (AUP)? Because AUP doesn't work with movie maker, but wav and mp3 do.
the title should just say "Good tips for Voice acting" or something like that

i have to ask, as i need to know, what about those fancy mic/headphone combos? are they any good for this kinda thing?
thebladeofchaos 2 years ago
In my opinion, no they are not. Those are made more for gaming/online chat. They generally don't have the best quality, and the mic is to close to your face. There's no way to be far away from it... That's just my opinion.

@thebladeofchaos
You mean Headset Microphones =P

i believe so

i finally downloaded everything but every time i try and save it it adds a VOICE LOGO thingy it ruin my recording. how do i get it not to add a VOICE LOGO?
sampatton1 2 years ago
I've honestly never heard of that happening. Try googling that problem and see if you can find an Audacity support forum or something.
Rifftiff 2 years ago
i made some auditions, can you see if i'm any good? (first time :D)
Great video!!!
I love it and the pictures are kawaii<3

Thanks :]
and take your time ^ w ^

How do you take a voice recording on youtube and put it on audicity?
sampatton1 2 years ago
Honestly, I have no idea. I'm sure there is some program you can download somewhere, but I have a better suggestion. If you are wanting to get lines form people who auditioned, or people you have cast, just have them email you the sound files. :] It makes a lot more sense.
Rifftiff 2 years ago
I use Hypercam for voice recording :D
Lawl1puppy1an1cat1 2 years ago
how do I download Audacity? And how do i plug up the mic and headset?
sampatton1 2 years ago
All the info for Audacity is on the side>>>
And you plug your mic/headset into the usb port... I would not suggest using a headset though.
Rifftiff 2 years ago
I use my Karaoke Revolution Headset for recording. Which worked fine at first but now I get horrible feedback and it rings in my ears when I try to record and it's only when I talk. Do you think you can help me with this problem?
PartyWithMaracas 2 years ago
Probably not. i'm not that tech savvy or anything. But I would suggest just getting a new mic anyway, because I don't like headsets for voice acting. The mic is always too close to your face. :]
Rifftiff 2 years ago
actually its called ass kissing but yea that works to
TheMarathonproductio 2 years ago
wait, what?
Rifftiff 2 years ago
I have wavepad sound editor.... does that work?
WumWip 2 years ago
No idea... As long as it records, and you can save it in a good format, then sure.
Rifftiff 2 years ago
I've done some Crash badicoo character voice acting vids here... Can you see my vids and tell me if I'm good enough? (or if I saved it in a decet format?)
WumWip 2 years ago
I'll take a look... any format should be okay, as long as it works.
Rifftiff 2 years ago
That was very informative and well made. Thank you very much. :)

Could you let me know some things that you have voice acted for. I find your voice beautiful. And any suggestions as to some samples in which I can practice? PM me if you can :)

I just wanted to know how old you are... LOL
chris51282 2 years ago
20. I'll be 21 in March`. Woo!
Rifftiff 2 years ago
well I just wanted to let you know you have a very cute voice... LOL
chris51282 2 years ago
Thanks for the tips!!! Voice acting has always been my dream job, but I have yet to actually take acting classes....Anyway I'm thinking about practicing with fan dubs, but I was wondering if there was a particular kind of mic you could recommend?
Speee55 2 years ago
Well, any mic will work, as long as it is compatible with your computer. If you have the money, I suggest buying a higher quality mic, but if you have to, you can use the microphone from a playstation or wii, or whatever you have accessible.

I'm glad that you appreciated my tutorial! Thanks for watching!
Rifftiff 2 years ago
(ignore the last reply) no, I don't do any professional voice acting... YET. But I hope to eventually go professional. :]
Rifftiff 2 years ago
I'm not sure. is it a usb microphone? you'd have to do some research and see if it is:
a. compatible with your computer system
AND
b. if it is compatible with Audacity or whatever recording program you use.
Rifftiff 2 years ago
Do you do voices too?
jeroenvt2 2 years ago
Yes, i do. I do quite a few voices, actually. :]
Rifftiff 2 years ago
Can I get you to voice act in a small video I'm making?
jeroenvt2 2 years ago

jeroenvt2 2 years ago
How come I downloaded this but it won't let me add effects
cutepv22 2 years ago
What do you mean by it won't let you add effects?
Like you try to add something such as an echo and it doesn't work?
If that's the problem, is it coming up with an error message?
Rifftiff 2 years ago
well at first when i click on the effects ta[p the words were faded and then it wouldn't let me click but that's ok. I figured it out. Thanks! 8D
cutepv22 2 years ago
thanks 'm getting started right away

How do you know what a good voice for a character is? Should you just use your regular, normal voice, or try to use a different voice to (in your opinion) suit the character?
RSTGProductions 2 years ago
Well it all depends on the character you're looking at. Sometimes your own voice will work but sometimes not. You have to really look at hints that the director gives you. Like age and certain characteristics. But in the end, every character is up to the actor's interpretation. :]
Rifftiff 2 years ago
For recording? Well as long as it has recording capabilities, then yes you can.
Rifftiff 2 years ago
may i ask how you conect the singstar mic to the pc?
chihero5 2 years ago
Well it depends on the computer you have. Mine has a special port for microphones located next to the headphone jack. But some don't, and if that's the case, then you'll need to use a usb mic instead.
Rifftiff 2 years ago
oh i thought that was the case, thank you!
chihero5 2 years ago
no problem. glad to clear things up for you. :]
Rifftiff 2 years ago
i think..(im not positive) that you can also change your recording to an mp3 like this:
if you have itunes you can save your file and drag and drop it onto itunes. then you go to advanced and select "change to mp3" and then select the track and click "change"...
im not sure which way is easiest, but id do that if you have itunes.
btw- great "how-to" :D

audacity doesnt work with windows movie maker
pandapenguin32 2 years ago
yes, it does. I use it all the time. Are you exporting your audio as WAV or MP3? Or are you just saving it as and Audacity Project file (AUP)? Because AUP doesn't work with movie maker, but wav and mp3 do.
Rifftiff 2 years ago
oh ok. thanks!!
i think i save it as aup.
thanks for all the help!!
