I really believe that Keira will win an oscar one day. She's such a great actress, I totally agree about Reese have won, she deserved. Just wasn't her time yet, but when her chance come, I as a fan will be really proud of her.
Out of all the nominees, I felt that Keira should've won, and I say this not out of biasness. I watched them in all their movies, and for someone so young to take on the role of Elizabeth Bennett in Pride and Prejudice, embodying it so perfectly that I could not tell any character difference from that in the original novel, and capturing audience's hearts from the very first scene of the movie by the smple movement of walking and smiling, now that was pure genius and extraordinary acting.
I love that comedy bit during the ceremony where they did a spoof of political attack ads. Stephen Colbert doing the voice over said something like "Charlize Theron made herself ugly once again in "North Country" but Keira Knightley doesn't resort to cheap tricks to get an Oscar! She was in "Pride and Prejudice" looking gorgeous with cheeks flecked with 'God Dust'! The voice over ended with "Keira Knightley, Acting While Beautiful."
This was my least favorite best actress lineup ever probably. I didn't care for any of the performances. Well except Charlize Theron was good in North Country, but still not enough to win.

Well, you state your opinion and I'm going to state mine. I love Keira so I'm going to say this the nicest way I could. I have to disagree. It may look easy but saoirse's part in atonement was definitely something to take time in character development. At her age, she was fantastic. She was really annoying(since that's what her part was suppose to be). I thought, hands down that if it was only Saoirse who made it to nomination, she deserved it! =) JUST SAYING. Love you Keira!

Her accent was terrible. She couldn't pull of being a genteel woman if she even wanted to. And I love the child, I really do. She is a good actress, but she was not the best Eliza Bennett. The BBC version with Firth and Elhe was the best. Reese Witherspoon most dfeinitely deserved that oscar.

Oh, ditto. I think Keira has done some great performances (notably Zhivago), but her Lizzie was radiant and lithe and exquisitely feminine.
If you look at the video when they say "The Oscar goes to...", you can see the other actresses look pretty glum and Reese looks all smiley. That kind of pisses me off. Reese wasn't better than Keira, Judy, Charlize, or Felicity. Not one.
I think that she was really good in this role, but I think that Reese also did a super performance in walk the line, I really do like her as an actrice! Shes amazing!
