  • the cd that i stole from a friend was stolen too!

  • That's so cool. Every now an again I come across a track I'd long since forgotten or never knew the singer of, re-discovering old music is one of the greater pleasures in life.

  • I have been looking for this song for 25 years. Never know the singer and title. Now I got it dec 10'2011

  • i still have this on 10" in a box ;)

    classic tune.

  • this song is haunting. always loved it.

  • i split up with my first girlfriend listening to this. hahaha still makes me cry

  • great story .i remeber 1985 being 2 and my dad playing this over andover and it has such a magic feel to it -even makes me sad alot this song cuz its so special i thinkgoodmemories

  • one of the best 80s tunes ever...wish i could go back for one day for old time sake...

  • best tune i ever heard !!!!!!!!!

  • @Brutalus84

and its myfav tune of all time along with talktalk its my lie

  • Well said, ziggysue.

  • I dare modern artists to touch ones soul through music like these artists did before, I hadn´t heard this song in years and I sat down and cried as if I was hearing it for the first time ever and my infant child cooed and smiled in unison

    . beautiful.

  • I remember going to see O.M.D @ the Empire theater, Liverpool back in 86. I got outside and said to my girlfriend, these are going to be crap, shal we sell the tickets and go to the pub instead. She said no of course, so we went inside and they blew me away..i have been an O.M.D fan ever since Still got this 10 inch in my record colection

  • Thanks for posting this by the way. I troll so much that I sometimes forget to give credit to those who have uploaded something that made me smile.

  • 1981. A souvenir year: Wedge side parting over one eye; sobering up to Tiswas on a saturday morning; girls more classy & natural than they are today (no tattoos & silicone, obviously). But was life really better 30 years ago? Or, like every other generation before and after us, do we only choose to remember the "good times"? The times of our youth? And to what extent is this memory tinged with sadness?.......sad that we didn't make more of it?

  • God bless you, uploader of this great rare gem.

  • Awsome band, Awsome music - Never seen any better then or now

  • Perry's... flick 'n a wedge... Gazelle's... top one!

  • Alton towers....Nissan Micra.....chinese.......brilliant.....

  • UTTERLY BRILLANT

  • Im 46. I had a saturday job when this came out and I ran to WH Smith after work to buy this before the shop closed. I remember the girl who served said great record as I paid. I went home clutching my prized 10inch single and I was over the moon. Still love this song, love this group. Timeless. Thanks so much. Fab, happy memories.

  • Wow! £1.49 in 1981. You can get it on itunes for 99p in 2011.

  • @BigEricHunt

True, but you don't get a free B-side or great packaging.

  • @RareEighties ......or warps and scratches.

  • @BigEricHunt aye.

  • @BigEricHunt He he, very true, but you can't beat the warmth of the sound you used to get from vinyl, (or the sound of eggs frying in the background).

  • @BigEricHunt Yer but you dont own it.

  • @BigEricHunt

lol you're right but least you had a record to keep forever i suppose even thoe Lp's are out

  • @dizzyrico I don't have it anymore. It was chucked out in 90s with all the other vinyl.

  • Memories : just heard this from my cousin neigbor / like a nerd always going to library on dark rainy afternoons.

  • Why do they have to cut this original one and edited it for the final release?

  • Ahhh, brilliant 80's pop...nothing like it. O.M.D. sure made some damn fine tunes.

  • i close my eyes and this song moves me.

  • It sounds like it skips at 01:54. It's like that on mine so I came on here to see if someone had a better version. Maybe they're all like that.

  • @TheNightBadger Hi there, there's definately no skip at 1.52. I'm not sure what it is your haring but there is a synth key just at that point that rides over a vocal note that is decending, that could be leading you to think it skips.

  • @RareEighties It sounds like he's saying "It's instantly a ga-ame", but the gap between "a" and "game" seems too abrupt. Maybe it's just me.

  • @RareEighties This Guy Knows!

  • 4 scott x

  • My old roommate - a D.J. had this original, I put it on "CASSETTE" - now it is lost forever, thanks for posting.

  • Memories: Almost having to run to Westfield School after listening to this before leaving Stu and Robs at lunchtime.

  • i have this 10 inch no one believes me till i show them.. how many other bands released 10 inch singles does anyone know?

  • @josiedoris The simple answer to that question is thousands. The old 78 rpm records were all 10 inch. Post 1949 when the 7 inch single took over there wern't many but in the 80's it was used as a marketing tool to sell singles.

Bands who've issued modern 10 inch singles are not common but include, Bon Jovi, David Bowie , Cheap Trick, Dead or Alive, Cindi Lauper, Beastie Boys, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Guns n Roses, and a few more.

  • @RareEighties - Simply Red did a nice set of four in sleeves that were designed to look tatty and aged, Propaganda mkII did some nice boxed ones, as did Autechre. Nitzer Ebb released limited editions with fantastic remixes on, Pet Shop Boys and the Damned put out a few 10" rarities, and let's not forget Nine Inch Nails, who released a 9" disc of their track 'Sin'. And bloody odd it looks too.

  • @josiedoris

Tears For Fears released their Singles "Shout / Everybody wants to ... / Head over Heels / I Believe" as 10" too.

  • It still sounds absolutely perfect! Why did they ever let the talent-free Moby remix this song a few years ago??? Moby has also ruined another brilliant track 'Lost Again' from Yello.

The B side 'Sacred Heart' is also amazing!

  • @damedavid - I'm going to guess NME, as it was the NME who published my all time favourite review of a single for 'Find My Way Home' by Jon and Vangelis - it read "This song sounds like a christmas tree falling over."

    It really does.

  • @RareEighties - That review was poached from 'Smash Hits' magazine, but the NME is the source of the 'Epileptic' quote. The phrase Smash Hits used was 'Gimpy Dancing', which is funnier. The best record review of all time is from Smash Hits, and was for Earth Wind & Fire's 'Let's Groove'. It read: 'Let's Not'. Close on it's heels is the one for Iron Maiden's 'Run To The Hills', namely; 'Don't think I wasn't tempted.' Class.

  • @brianartillery

Both of those made me laugh... a lot.

We should have a 'best review comp', most thumbs up wins...

I vote for the Iron Maiden review.

  • @RareEighties Another person charged with 'Gimpy Dancing' was the great Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode. I was going through an old suitcase full of early 80's Smash Hits magazines. I had forgotten what a funny, clever, and subversive magazine it was.

  • the dogs bollucks of a mix lovely song

  • merci

  • This song stirs up some really personal feelings. One of the best ever.
