@thehoodatron i wouldnt hang up a picture of the guy lying down with his leg blown off like a quarter way through. when i saw that it shock me up, sorta cause my mates headed to the army in a few months.
There´s a big hole in here...The most beautiful part of this track comes after about 2 minutes of total silence. And Thom York in a interview describes it as the sound that he wishes to hear when he dies. Is mindblowwinggg!!
This could be about a soldier coming back from war, and feeling so out of place in normal society. He resorts to red wine and sleeping pills to dull his senses, and deal with the horrors he witnessed. The war was not what he expected, as he was 'fed on little white lies'.
I like the moment on 2:00 when harps are combined with the view of exploding trees. It' s absolutely marvelous, it's similar to the moment of Valkyries combined with helicopters attack from original movie.
I've always thought of it as a couple with different faiths. The man being athiest and the woman being religious, and believing in a heaven. The woman dies and the man becomes so distraught that he considers suicde (Red wine, sleeping pills) to be reunited with her. But he doesn't believe in an afterlife. But he still has hope that the woman was right all along (Baby, I think you're crazy. Maybe. I will see you, in the next life).
After listening to the rest of album: which is pretty dark, complex & layered, this feel very simple and refreshing: like dawn's breaking after a long night.
It feels like, and the name implies, it's a reflection of the tracks which have preceded it.
I think he feels like everything he's done feels worthless and that there's not much point in doing anything; that being apathetic and drowning your life away in sorrow is the superior option: hoping the next life will be better than this.
I dont normally respond to these youtube radiohead videos (too many chefs in the kitchen already) but this was VERY well put together and i didnt see much love for your work on the first page so I just wanted to express my gratitude for the excellent work you did on this.
people always say they will do something or manage to be with somebody in next lifetime because they are afraid of taking change to have it all this lifetime. this is all we got. this moment. now.
i kinda disagree. i think that the song's about some kind of relationship that's just been destroyed to the point of no return, even though the two people are meant to be together. so he's basically telling his/her lover, "I know it didnt work out this time... but in the next life, i promise it will".
Videotape was about sending a message to your loved ones before you die (or after you die). And it was pretty sad, but nowhere near as depressing as this song can be.
video tape is hardly depressive at all. It's more like the peace you would feel right before dying, after a very strenous life. Also I don't see how the lyrics could indicate a suicide, except for it being a message on videotape.
That's the beauty of radiohead, the lyrics are abstract enough to interpret them to your life experience. I'd agree it's not about war, but there's absolutely something tragic about "red wine and sleeping pills help me get back to your arms." Nonetheless the music compliments the visuals, which is all that should matter in this case.
even though my visiond doesn´t catch up with this one, it´s a beautiful interprettion on this song, and, as always, is good to get some A.N. footage ;)
Great work

I read this review just completely bashing Kid A. The reviewer went on to say that "Pop is Dead" is Radiohead's "most inspired single to date".
Some people ar just really fucking stupid.

sorry mate, i dont think thats what it is about.
i think its about a man who is dead and in heaven and is watching his life on videotape. slightly reminiscant i think
also, thom yorke once said if people think his music is depressing, they just dont get it.
sorry to be picky
