@Darion1A Is it really any different from the radio bringing you here? Or seeing it on an 80s music video special and having that bring you here? As it is, I wasn't even alive when this came out, and the only thing that brought me here (besides hearing it in American Dad the other night) was that I was lucky enough that my parents listened to the oldies station when I was growing up. So what the hell is the problem with hearing it on a TV show when it just means Genesis just made one more fan?
@xAmazonxValkyriex What does you not being alive when it happened have to do with it? I'm only 16 and i dont listen to anything from the 21st century. My parents listened to this but not around me i came upon this kind of music myself but i digress. And besides no its not the same because people dont praise the song when they come here. They praise the show. When they hear it on the radio do you see anyone coming here saying "MAX 94 WBRZ brought me here."
@Darion1A My not being alive when it came out means that it wasn't on stations people my age would typically listen to: which would feature newer music. But if people are really just praising the show, then why would they seek out the song in the first place if they didn't like it when they heard it? I just don't get why people get pissed about stupid things like this when it's just a way of presenting older music to a newer audience.
@Darion1A If this were in a movie or a show and you had never heard it before and you LIKED it, wouldn't you seek it out? As it is, people are just either quoting from the scenes in which it was featured (which were funny) or saying that it was because of the show that they discovered this song. I Loved the fact that American Dad featured another awesome 80s song ("Africa" by Toto) but did I come here and bitch people out just because they discovered the song from seeing that episode? No.
@xAmazonxValkyriex I get and understand all of that. You misunderstood me as I didn't present my side thoroughly. I am glad that American Dad has given Genesis more fans. Same for Toto, just like the movie American Beauty brought a bunch more fans to Neil Young. I am very glad of that, my problem is when people come here and talk about the show or the movie instead of the song itself.
It's funny, just over the past couple days I've become obsessed with Phil Collins, catching up on everything he's done, and then I watch the American Dad episode with THIS song playing. Sometimes the Law of Attraction really does make a presence for me, haha.

the golden age of music truly was in the 80's several gods and kings of every genre emerged, and they set the bar for each which now has sadly dropped below that bar in todays current main stream music.
damn i miss the genre that put out such good music... all todays shit is about smoking crack, joining a gang, or fucking monkeys, long live the 80s....
From the opening rattle of the electronic drums to the closing of the two different vocal lines, everything in this song fires at 100%. Say what you will about the production techniques of the 1980's, but you can hear every single note played from every single instrument. The chorus is easily one of the catchiest in pop music history; Hell, the entire song is one massive hook. Some may argue that the Genesis "sell out" peaked here but I'm too busy singing along to hear what those arguments are.
It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress.
@saleuski In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist.
@saleuski Interesting observation! Tell me, do you like Huey Lewis and the News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humor!
An amazing Idol. Loved this guy since I was 3!! It'll be 11 years(as of tomorrow; my birthday!!) since i've first listened to them as a child.. Wow, time goes by so fast. :)
@deerdestroyer2009 I find Gabriels solo work to be fantastic, so I think its a win win for both Genesis and Gabriel fans that he left the band and Phil took his spot as lead singer.
This song was in my head today and I mentioned it to my husband who didn't know what I was talking about. Therefore, the search for the song online began. I played the whole thing for him and he had never heard it before!! *gasp* I grew up with this album playing in my house; my dad owned all of their albums.
