  • Good video, but you should really invest in a cheap tripod. I agree with other posters. You have a great presentation voice. I also like the the fact that you make a couple of mistakes which shows us how to correct it. I t makes it much more realistic that a totally prepared presentation where everything goes perfectly the first time. I will definitely be checking out any other vids you may have.

  • helen mirren - is that you? ;-)

  • This is random but your voice is calm and seductive.

  • I love how you say "portrait" or anything for that matter. From an admiring yank.

  • Useful but have couple questions:

    1. Do you put kindle to your nose to see how detailed is text and to read small size text? I doubt. Than why did you put camera so close to Kindle that only little part of screen was shown? It is good to see how screem islooked in natural position of viewing. 20 cm from screen at least.

    2. Why does everyone use it for google, yahoo and amazon??? Could you browse for e-mail or news or else sites? Or some sites with many pictures to see?

    Thank you.

  • I have a question: Would you marry me?

  • useful video thnx

  • I tried my gmail account in it. But for some unknown reason.. it kept logging out... Any insights on this ???

  • the better surfing expirience is through kindalex.com - it converts web pages to kindle-friendly format

  • Considering how you get free 3G worldwide, this is really quite awesome.

  • Does it work with twitter.com ?

  • Can you surf any web-page with kindle 3? or just wikipedia and the ones in the bookmark.

  • Great informative video review, thanks

  • can you change the homepage meaning the page that opens when you start the browser? e.g. change it to wikipedia.

  • Great review I have been looking on how to use the browser and not only did u show me but u reviewed it and this was a great vid

  • Wow. I've been looking for a cheap tablet for school for major document handling and basic web browsing in class, and have been irritated at the cheap quality Chinese Android tablets. But, wow! I'm frankly surprised at the web browser... on an eink device! I'm not expecting iPad quality, but at $139US it's a bargain!

  • it sucks how it doesn't have color.

  • @TheAsianInvasion23 If you want color, buy an iPad.

  • @feschlix I know, I'm just saying the KINDLE would be better if it had color.

  • @TheAsianInvasion23 It would also be $100 more expensive. That aint better. Most people use it to read text, not look at pictures.

  • @TheAsianInvasion23 - color would result in a higher price tag, a much lower battery life, and the contrast would be worse (i.e. it would result in diminishing the primary function of the device, reading books). By adding color you might as well backlight it and make it into a mini ipad (which sucks to read books on).

  • @TheAsianInvasion23 its supposed to mimic a book

  • So this isnt in color?

  • it would be nice if the screen rotation was automatic like the ipod and ipad

  • @Danklin24 the reason they make it so its not automatic is because this way you can read it at an angle, say you were lying down in bed(on your side) and trying to read your kindle, if the screne shift was automatic it would continuously switch screne angles, its hard to explain but do you see where im comeing from?

  • I will buy one when it will get colours.Black and white only not that good.

  • I will buy one when it will get colours.

  • @bakvarnyu why do you need color when your reading a book, pages are white, ink is black, a kindle is meant for reading e-books, this one just happens to have the luxury of web browsing. Barns and noble made a nook color and it only gets 8 hours of battery life compared to 30 days of black and white. Its not that important of an asset.

  • @dimbagdarrell1 I agree but I would like to read magazines besides the books.

For example Fangoria, Metal hammer, National geographic etc. If it takes years for them to

develop the colorful reader then I will wait years that is not so urgent for me.

  • @bakvarnyu you COULD get the nook, although I've heard some mixed reviews about it. The kick-ass thing is that it has flash now, and can connect to the android market...

  • nice demo, thank you

  • is the screen in black and white?

  • @Jmspud Yes, it's e-ink though.

  • Thanks for showing how the kindle works with wikipedia, this was the main thing I was having difficulty finding on the net.

  • @Erinath Wow... I'm actually really impressed at the web browser... question: could you tell me how things like Google Docs, and other web-based apps work?

(Gmail, Facebook, Google Maps, etc.) I've always held off on the ipod touch cause of the cost(but wanted it for internet). now, though, I'm considering the Kindle for the e-ink screen (I've got a lot of free ebooks and I'm getting tired of staring at my laptop), but am also wondering about the web browser's potential.

    Thanks!

  • So can you connect to your own wireless broadband at home with the kindle? And do sites such as facebook work? Also, if you can connect to wireless, does it crash or does it work perfectly fine?

  • Good review, thanks :)

  • @cody1800212 unfortunately it is not

  • Should I get a Kindle?

  • This isn't the device you want for everyday web surfing. However, for information sites like Wikipedia and some blogs it's well worth it.

  • very helpfull video.

  • Can you surf through javascript-based pages (like Facebook) on it?

  • @cody1800212 Did you watch this video? No.

  • thanks for your time in posting these videos

they have been very helpful :)

now i cant wait for my kindle :D

  • Who posted this!?

  • this is great!!! but I have a question....Can you check you email like hotmail, Gmail, yahoo, etc.....

  • I think this video shows that as well as the reading bit that this is a multi-functual device

  • thank you so much for the video, it's just what i wanted to see :)

  • Thank you for taking the time to demonstrate the web browser on Kindle. Very helpful in making a decision (yes, buy) and a nice quality video as well.

  • a black and white screen really?

  • can you browse any webpage?

  • All of your Kindle 3 videos are awesome and so helpful. Thanks for taking the time!!!

  • Thanks for posting this.

  • Can you show how big the font can go please? You do a great job demonstrating these things, and I think it's great that you are asking for viewer feedback to help you produce these clips keep up the great work.

  • I had one but sent it back because I was very disappointed with it.. Total waste of money. Better of with bloody iPod touch!!!!

  • @kilthebatman If I interpret you correctly, you bought it as an alternative to the iPod? In that case, you have totally misunderstood. The Kindle is a book reader, not a portable multimedia and applications device. If you buy something for a purpose it is not in any way meant to address, it's not the device's fault if you're disappointed.

  • can it play flash? like, youtube and stuff?

  • @frogparfait29 No flash support. With the slow screen refresh rates of e-ink displays, there wouldn't be much point.

  • Does the Web Browser work with the 3G network?

  • @grivas2007 Yes, it does.

  • @frodehauge

I mean, can I go to any website just using 3G connection (not using wi-fi) ?

  • Hi Could you please show the facebook page on the kindle browser?

  • Thanks for the video, this is exactly the sort of thing I was curious about with the experimental browser. :)

  • Hi Erinath,

    Thanks for sharing this video/

Does it also get locked with Gmail? I'm waiting for mine in the next few weeks and was hoping to be able to check emails from it. Thanks!

  • @Channelship I'm still having difficulties, but I have read lots of other people reporting it works fine for them. It has been suggested my problem stems from my router *shrugs*

  • These videos are great! They're helpful in their information and also in tiding me over til mine gets here. Thanks!

  • Will it run Google maps?

  • @c4pt41nch405 Just tried it, Google maps works really well on it. Good thinking, that would be really handy with the 3G Kindle.

  • Can you try the guardian and independent websites for me? :)

  • @EdWood2006 Tried both websites & they both work really well, though do take a while to fully load. Is particularly good if you zoom in then switch to 'article mode'

  • @Erinath Cheers. When I get paid I'm ordering one. Seems like a bit of a wait though :(

  • @Erinath

It will be useful a clip about reading and sending email from Kindle. Kindle can do this. There is nothing like that on YouTube. Thanks !

  • Thanks a ton for the videos. I've watched all of them. Love the accent ;)

  • @harriska2 Why thank you :)

  • Does the web browser speak web pages?

  • @techcraze Good question, I've just tried it out & couldn't get it to work, it just kept opening the Sym pop-up menu instead.

  • @macflyfilm shut the fuck up

  • @macflyfilm I think experimental is a way of warning it won't necessarily be kept on & Amazon are not guaranteeing anything about it.

The problem with touch screens is that the extra layer needed tends to cause the screen to not be as crisp or clear. Now if it could have a touch screen keyboard & still the same quality screen that would be great.

  • You can test different version of the news paper site.

Like this guy did -- creating big font link pages like:

    fixit.limewebs.com/KindleLink/

Then you can click to other part of the web very quickly.

  • @Erinath This comment is 11 months old, I know, but I would really hate a touch screen keyboard, a touchscreen would be good, but the keyboard should really stay

  • @Erinath Won't affect the crispness or clarity of the screen. It would however, require a more reflective surface (unless it's resistive, which is shite anyway), and would decrease the battery life.

  • @macflyfilm its also free. touchscreen on e-ink would be bad. get an ipad and be happy. this is a reading device.

  • @macflyfilm Your right, why give us extra stuff to test? I hate that companies give me things that they are working on to see if we like it, id rather just not have it there for no extra benefit..

    /sarcasm

Experimental means probably experimental, as in, they are experimenting with the idea and what user feedback. I DO see your point on making the Kindle better, but I think they have done that and adding a small lightweight browser is pretty cool.

  • @macflyfilm The touch screen would negatively affect the battery life. Look at the nook.

  • @macflyfilm "Experimental" allowed IBM to come up with things like Watson. Let those developers fool around a bit.

  • @macflyfilm they did :)

  • Thank you for this. I was curious about what the browser was like, but hadn't been able to find anything talking about that in detail.

  • Hi Erinath,

Does the browser remember login and password data? or we have to enter it everytime?

  • @rubenlbe I've needed to re-enter information each time I've used it, so either I haven't adjusted the necessary settings or it just plain old doesn't remember.

  • Was trying out Yahoo to see if I could access Yahoo mail ... and Yahoo's caused my Kindle to lock. Can't get it to work now.

  • I got it working again, but it won't let me enter Yahoo mail as the Web Browser is unable to establish a secure connection.

  • thanks for the video! have you tried basic email and blog use via the web-browser? not that i want you to open your inbox for us to see, but just wondering about your satisfaction with those tools on the kindle. thanks!

  • @kisernl I mainly use Gmail & I can't get it to work on the Kindle. It keeps telling me "Web Browser is unable to display this page." People with K2s have confirmed that they can get Gmail to work, so not sure if it's just having a rough day or something.

I don't think I'd chose to use my Kindle to blog, I can type pretty quick on a standard keyboard, it takes so much longer to type anything into the Kindle. Will try it later though & report back.

  • Thank you for another great demonstration. The experimental browsing feature is better than I thought it would be. Really looking forward to using the device - when it eventually arrives.

  • Hi Erinath, Thanks again for taking the time to do this. Have you tried doing a search on wikipedia whilst reading (not that you've had much time to read yet)

Also if you're going to do more of these insructional videos you should maybe get a cheap tripod....

  • @steftymo I'm sure no one will need my vids once everyone else's Kindles have arrived. Haven't tried searching wiki whilst reading as yet, am just trying out highlighting text & making notes for someone else.
