Rob, sorry I didn't hear this before. I am a big Madonna fan, but this goes deep into the soul, more emotion. Your music helps me get through different events that have happened in my life. Especially, Smooth. While my mom was sick (2 1/2 yrs) I watched the video (Supernatural) and it always gave me the get up and go for another day.She left in Aug but you gave me the strength to go on. What I wouldn't give to see Carlos and you to do something again. You are definitely being looked down on.

When you hear an amazing singer/songwriter/musician such as Rob sing a song that's meant to be all poppy and meaningless it changes the song completely. It also sheds light on how empty the songs are when compared to ANY songs done by Rob or MatchboxTwenty. Love Rob and love the band. He's as real as they come, one of the greats and deserves high praises for his ambitious, heartfelt ballads of heartbreak, love, and hate.

yes after major begging from the tour director. its a fan favorite and she eventually decided she would do it if she could rework the song. hence the rock version. blender magazine did an entire article on madonna's dislike for this song a few months ago. look it up.

The simplicity of the arrangement just shows how uttterly brilliant these chord changes are. Check it at 01:04 for the first immense change. Pause at 01:25 for the second epic change. Pay close attention at 01:54 for "the blue note". That's good shit. Madonna had help in writing that stuff, it takes more than style and clothing to write those changes. Any real musician will tell you the same thing.

I'm a musician too, and to be fair to Madonna, she IS musical, she can write music, and good music at that. However I don't think she wrote Borderline. Anyhow, you don't need to diss her to acknowledge how good this performance is.

Actually Madonna did not write Borderline. Her earlier work she had a lot of people write for her. She didn't really take off with production and writing until True Blue came out. She only wrote 5 out of 8 for her first album and 5 out of 9 for Like A Virgin.

Madonna's version is better, but this is fascinating. Jodi Whatley just covered this song. And I remember back in 2000 TLC did a countdown on MTV of their favorite music videos of all time, and Madonna's borderline was in their top 5 picks. Great song.
