Folk rock for the 80's - it's got that jangly, Byrds thing, and a singer that sounds like a cross between Dylan/McGuinn/Petty...I give it a thumbs up!
The late, great WBCN in Boston played this song all the time. Reminds me of Jonathan Richman, who got a lot of play in Boston in those days too. Back when radio took more chances and focused on music.
@ironbuttermilk From what I've heard thru the SF music grapevine, Columbia/415 shelled out a lot of money for a video for Translator that was filmed in India. It was a very cool video but the album sales slumped and the only thing I ever heard from that day on within my circle of was that the incident hastened the end of the band. I always liked Translator; they were nice guys and our band opened for them and Romeo Void several times. I hope you're ALL reminded now!
does steve still have that guitar ? more importantly, do you still have that hat ? my cat (and i ) love listening to you guys. we should go to tokyo... they would eat you alive !
@cosmocrateroth - yes! I still have that guitar. It's a Guild X-50. It was my first electric guitar. My grandfather gave it to me when I was around 15 or so. It is all over my new album, "Projector". In fact, it's featured in a few shots in the video for "These 4 Walls" from that album. I have posted the video above. Thanks....steve
God,I miss those days .Nostalgie.This was on kroq all da time. They were true arbiters of taste .They played cool stuff. This song WAS A MIOR HIT >DESEVED MORE IT"S A CLASSIC CHEZ MOI !
This reminds me of being about 11, and watching MTV right when it came out. This was back in the day when they actually showed music videos :). Low budget yes, but the music was still great. Now on MTV it's about the moronic "Jersey Shore"....sad. Martha Quinn...where are you? :)
lmao. ALL videos were low-budget affairs back then. some of us can almost remember. of course, if we CAN remember, then we didn't really live through it.

But it's a keeper- haunting. Wish it had been a hit

Simply a classic of pop music. Energetic yet detached. Video -- not so much. Looks like a very low-budget affair.
