DDR was and Anti - fascist and Socialist country. The shield of the people that had suffered from the genocide policies and plans of the Nazi regime, the elite of which continued to rule as nothing had happened in West Germany due to the blessing of the UK and USA capitalists.

And because of that counterweight we in the West were able to make hard demands for social justice, better union organisation and antiimperialism. All of which sufferd highly because of the fall. And not to forget the suffering and misery that capitalism brougth to Eastern Europe. We see Mcdonalds on TV in Moscow, but not the poverty.
I think it was harder to make those demands back then because anyone struggling for freedom and justice was immediatly slandered as a Soviet puppet.
Even though im opposed to an extent, to the Utopian, Libertarian, Anarchist idea that Communism can be achieved overnight, i will remind you that Marx said that the Class Struggle must begin on a national level. Now that the westerners are losing their previous sceptiscism too, Germany is ripe.

Ik ben in het voorjaar naar Berlijn en Potsdam geweest en ik heb in de steden in de S bahn en U bahn meegereist.
Het is werkelijk zo dat de Oost Berlijners naar de pijpen van West Berlijners dansen moeten , de Oost Berlijner werkt in West Berlijn.
In Potsdam was alles heel gemoedelijk , het gevoel van wij moeten het hier met elkaar doen, ik voelde mij helemaal thuis , dit is nou Socialisme.
