@bowm0 Yeah but I can understand diablo 2... in that game, diablo is actually YOU from diablo 1, and that was the whole idea from the epilogue. You shoved his soulstone into your head and kept his soul trapped in your body, but eventually he took control and you slowly became diablo again, which was bound to happen. Now diablo 3, THAT is a mystery, but I'm sure there's an explanation...

This game has a dark, sinister feel to it that was sorely missed in the sequel. The game didn't beat you over the head with too many stats/ talent trees, etc., leaving you to focus solely on the scary ass music and truly demonic monsters. I'm afraid Hell will never be replicated quite as well, no matter how many more Diablo installments Blizzard may attempt.

It's a shame that the roots of this series are the best. It makes me wonder if something went wrong at Blizzard that they couldn't make Diablo 2 and especially 3 with the same soul as they made this one.

Matt Uelmenn is a very talented musican, he's one who created all the music for both Diablo, and the sequel.. Sadly he's not with Blizzard anymore, so it'll sound different in the upcomming game.

The same happened with Warcraft...Warcraft 1 was compleatly epic, and dark...there was more tactic than WC 2...WC 2 was epic too...the story, the music, everything...it was a Nice sequel of WC 1...WC 3 was a shock...though it became 3D, it turned into anime...i do not say, it was bad, but never as dark as WC 1, even with the Nicely done Deamons, and creatures of the Nether...

I do not wish to mention World of Warcraft...the perfect changing into a cartoon...I was uneasy about it.

The problem is that they started basing the games into the style of comics, so thats where all the colorfulness comes from, even from runic games the title torchlight which I just bought is a cartoony game, I wish that someone is ale to translate this kind of diablo 1 horror into modern day gaming, of course it might be linked to what the teach in art schools and such for gaming crews

To be fair, Diablo 1 and 2 are very, very different kinds of games. Diablo 1 is much closer to survival horror game. You move slowly, the mobs are more than a match for you even in small quantities, and it's much narrower and more claustrophobic.

By comparison, Diablo 2 is a straight up action game. You can slaughter enemies by the hundreds with little difficulty.

It's like the difference between Alien and Aliens. They're fundamentally different, and each amazing in their own way.

I agree, and that is also why soo many think the feel of Diablo 1 is better than that of Diablo 2, it's a game about the evils and battling the evils, imo it's not supposed to be pure action, it's supposed to be a survival horror game with action..

That's where Diablo 2 failed, not saying that D2 wasn't good, it's great :) but I hope that Diablo 3 will go back to the horror roots of Diablo 1, I am certain it will be for the better.

i totally agree aswell i think diablo 2 lost its gothic style a bit and diablo 3 looks pretty shit to be honest only bit i really liked in diablo 2 was the monestary with all the tortured rogues and ther guts and blood everywere lol made the game look awsome lol im a bit sad diablo 3 doesnt look as dark and bloody as its previous games but i hope its good anyway :-)

Blizzard north started making it in 2003~ and it was "done" in 2005 but the blizzard entertainment big boys cancelled it because it "didn't live up to their standards". which led to blizzard norths doom. And now blizzard entertainment has started making it since 2007.
