Do you need a DMX controller to run one of these... or can you just let them go to the music?

in this video i was using a chauvet DMX controler but they have a very good internal program.. they work very well in stand alone mode (Activated by sound)

i used a DMX controller. Whem they are linked they do the same movimento or mirror moviment.

What controller do you have? I'm having the same problem. I can't address them and sometimes one of them won't follow the DMX signals.
