Retire in the philippines? I say sorry. I am a Pinoy but after 36 years life in the philippines. I felt I wasted those 36 years trying to succeed but you wont. the chinese can why? lagay and the have the priority they know lagay..... who owns the most numbers of Malls in the Philippines... Henry Sy....where does he brings his money? you guess.
I have to say though, if you retire Philippines would definitely be a nice place to be if you live between the country side and the city. So not everything is bad, just doing business there is bad because of the laws, government, corruption...etc.
Beginning September 12, 2011, I will be providing food for the hungry street people in Tabaco City in the Philippines. If U can help me, contact feedthepoor2@aol.com
Those aren't the slums ha ha they have block walls. Head on over to one of the squatter area's for some LIVE SLUMMING ha ha. I am american and love living here cause I don't give anyone ANYTHING ha ha. I will argue over p1 on a dinner bill. I demand discipline or abandon who ever isn't. Fact is nice place to live , good food , nice people just don't give them even 1 centavo
I once thought the Philippines was a very friendly country. Well, it is if you have money and you look like you are about something. Take your money and retire in the philippines....a country prone to typoons, mudslides, earthquakes, floods, and famine. When your money is gone, so are your "friends". People there are friendly to each other so long as they can use each other for their personal gains. When their mission is accomplished, they cast their friendships aside like old cooking grease.
@fanbutton Yeah, wait until you get ripped off millions doing business there, I know quite a few people where real bad deals happened to them. Forged signature, wife took all his money and factory, people who got killed, people who went missing, you name it it happens there. That's why I got the hell out of there and live in Taiwan and U.S. now. I see a lot of good investments there but you might lose your life or fortune over it, definitely not worth the risk. Too bad, no jobs for these people.
@fanbutton Also, wait until you win the lotto there and you can't claim it, because president of the lotto organization took your ticket and gave you a fake one back. Then he tells you it is a fake ticket and cashed the lotto ticket under the table then gets away with it for almost 30 years. You sue him there is no end to it because he bought all the judges so he case just keeps on going forever.

I love PI and plan on retiring there. of course there is both good and bad everywhere. I have seen first hand plenty of business's that are doing great and hiring workers and paying them phil helath and SS along with a wage higher than the min daily wage. If you see bad...its bad. if you see good or opportunity then its there too. I can see there is a hater here posting hate. Ive been all over and never got disease, malaria and didnt have any damm water tablets. Your viral hate is just that.
majority of filipinos are talented, skilled and hard-working people. what makes the philippines poor is their religious belief (majority are catholics) that promotes population growth (from the bible: "go forth and multiply..."). the church is against family planning. birth control, etc. the catholic bishops conference of the philippines is against many government programs creating job opportunities. although i consider myself a catholic, i already left the catholic church years ago.
the roman catholic church in the philippines is for population explosion, she tolerates poverty and sees untidy children from slum areas as "blessings from God." she is against the plan of creating another "las vegas" in the country. thus. depriving filipinos of employment opportunities. it is a shame for us. filipinos because we brag of ourselves as "the only christian nation in asia" and yet were branded as one of the most corrupt nation in the world! WOE TO THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH!
@staple006 This is not in any city that I am familiar with in the Philppines. Its looks more like a provincial villiage. All over the philippines is just like this except in the major cities and tourist areas. That's why everyone wants out. Street people live in the major cites too. They send their children out naked to beg for money. When I met my wife, she said that she was living in a woman's boarding house...now that I think about it, it looked more like a $2 whore house.
@fanbutton You make it sound like the whole country is begging naked in the street and prostituting themselves. I'm not saying that there isn't poverty, but there's a lot more to the Philippines than that. You'll see bad things in every country but that doesn't mean that the whole country is a hellhole. That would be like saying that all the UK sucks just because Belfast is rough. If you go to a country looking for suffering, then you'll find it, but you can just as easily find good things. : ]
@staple006 Sorry if the truth hurts, but the reality is that the Philippines is a terribly messed up country. Oh you can try to sugarcoat the facts all you want, but it does not change the reality. I have seen people back stab their friends and loved ones there just for the opportunity of getting out of the country. I don't know much about other country's economic situations, but the Philippine's is by far the worst I've seen with my own eyes.
@fanbutton I guess if that's your opinion then you're entitled to it. If you don't like the Philippines then I guess it just means there will be more room for me when I move there tomorrow. ^^ But if you want to talk about people acting bad towards each other, just look into your own life. That kind of stuff is commonplace in the US. I've personally seen and experienced it more times than I can count. But like I said, it happens in every country. It's human nature, not nationality.
@staple006 What are you going to do for work when you move back there...become a pimp? We are talking about the same Philippines, are we not? I am talking about a country that is so detest that countries like Japan and S. Korea use it as their garbage dump. Malaria, Cholara, and Ecolie are so rampant that you are scared to eat anything unless you are starving. They eat and feed rice to their children that has been left out for 2 to 3 days at a time, then they wonder why they become sick.
@fanbutton Damn dude. Didn't you say your wife is from the PI? You just threw some pretty serious insults at her country. I'm not scared of Filipino food. Can't get worse than MicDonalds. As for Japan and Korea, I guess thats why there are so many or them living in the PI. They all dropped everything in their home country so that they could live in the PI because they just hate it so much. Have you ever thought that maybe money isn't the only thing that can make a country awesome?
@staple006 "Didn't you say your wife is from the PI?"
Yes I did, and in the words of Clint Eastwood, "Everyone has a right to be a sucker once".
Look, if you still want to go there after having been forewarned, then by all means, go knock yourself out. That country may be a hell hole, but God looks out for everyone, regardless.
@staple006 That's the biggest crock of BS I have ever heard. You are not scared of filipino food?!! Where have you been eating...in the food courts? I ate something once from a food vendor on the street and had to get a shot in that azz for it when I got back to the states. Look, filipinos who live in the slums are pretty much complacent with their environment. That's because they have each other. The filipinos who make it to the states are nothing more then black widowing gold diggers.
Oh My, I am so sorry to hear that. I wonder why she felt that way/ I love the Philippines and cannot wait to go back. What a tragic thing that this happened!
@sherisky You love the Philippines and can't wait to go back?!! Where do you plan on going back to in the Philippines...the tourist district? Cause if you plan on visiting the provincial districts, be sure to bring plenty of water purification tablets and make sure that you have had all of your innoculations against the vast outbreaks of killer epidemics.
It's not too late buddy, file a complaint to the ICE? She is the kind of woman whose suck you dry? Never marry a Filipna unless you have her investigated? There are lots of private detective agency that will research and tell you who she trully is? I am one... I have many cases like that, ex: 26 yrs old girl pretending to be single, yet she has a live-in and a son? she told her partner she will marry a US citizen, divorce him and petition her man later, I found it and documented it? Watch out!
@moneyloverify Indoor plumbing is rare except in places like Metro Manila and Cebu City. What we consider to be a street curb here is an above ground cess pool where raw sewage flows freely down the side of the streets there.
@fanbutton They have been bred since childhood that the USA is paved with gold and is the honey pot of riches and plenty for everyone. Its ingrained in them to have the desire to leave PI and come to the states. Many come here and are disappointed at high taxes and all the hard work. yes life is better but here competition for good jobs is fierce. I know many who want to work 10-20 years doing meaningless jobs and that go back to....The good life.....thats right...its not as bad in PI as they
@fanbutton are you for real...? man, have you heard of "revocation of petition" ? Rather than crying like shes the only girl for you... there's about a dime a dozen in there for a girl? Kill herself...? Go ahead, give her the nylon cord then leave her alone.
@philip2go Its people like you who think that you can just flaunt your lottery winnings in some poor azz country and think that the people there are going to bow to your feet. I have found that these people will do whatever it takes to get into the U.S. or the UK. You think I don't know a horny bastard when I smell one? My philippine wife ran off with some dude cause he won the lottery here. Two years from now he will probably be dying from some would be "stomach illness".

seems to be just an average upper-lower class neighbourhood in one of the smaller provincial cities. the area shown at 0:48 looks a bit poorer than the rest, but the area where you guys walked isn't all that slummy. they still have homes made out of hollow blocks, barred-up glass windows, and small gates to their home entrances. it isn't a rich neighbourhood, but i wouldn't call it a slum either. are you guys there for volunteer work?
I was just on a trip and wanted to see and minister to the people there. I certainly did not show the worst conditions that we saw. But the people called it slums. I went many places in the Philippines and I love the Filipino people. Hope to go back someday.
@sherisky I too went to many places in the Philippines til I found out that these people are nothing more then "experts" at surviving. They will do and say virtually anything to get out of the slums. If you are a westerner, they treat you like god 'cause they hope to find an opportunity to escape their poverty through you.
