Wow, this totally made me laugh. "little bo peep has lost her....what?", "her cardigan", "wrong answer, her sheep", "yes, but cardigans are made of wool arnt they?, and where do we get wool from?" , "from sheep", "well there you go then i got it right" lol.
I'm feeling old is that really 1974, I was 16 at the time. They were the greatest I grew up with them. I miss them so much, they were my younger years. In my school years and teens, they brought happiness into our lives, there is on one around like them now, Magnus was great sadly gone too. 3 of a kind, brilliant sketch, who could do it today?
they are brilliant but they didn't write their own material- eddie brabern did and other wrote additional martial. When they switched writers the quality of their show dropped. Mr Braburn should get some kudos for the wonderful scripts.
They didn't write their own material. They were comedic geniuses, but their material was written originally by Eddie Braben (alone, which makes him a genius too imho) and later by, amongst others, Barry Cryer.
@enryb if your just going to be rude there's no point in commenting Eric and Ernie were masters of comedy and I for one apreciate their lack of vulgarity and their cleverness for writing all of their own material
@andyf2280 I know its a while since you commented but, I remember every Saturday watching the wrestling with my granddad, AND OF COURSE Mick McManus!!Wonderful memories, not just of Eric and Ernie - ARSENAL!!! incidentally my fave team!! Merry Xmas!
No, but I do remember Big Daddy. Mick MacManus had an infamous reputation for going for the ears . He was always the ''baddy'', whereas Big Daddy was friendly to all the kids. You just waited for the moment when he threw himself on his opponent. Never missed that hours wrestling on Sats. bye! Happy New Year!
You must be reading my mind. I was trying to remember a BIG wrestler with a BIG beard, and used to do tv show as well? Robin Hood? Not sure - But, it was Giant Haystacks I was trying to remember! Also a big favourite. And I just rem the name of Mike Marino - its so good when someone like yourself helps trigger all those lovely memories of years ago - oops, showing my age!
Of course I agree with you - these are all memories of the '''good old days'' of the 70's. However, my son was for a while obssessed with WWE and I did become a fan of ''The Undertaker!''
No, His fav was Undertaker, followed closely by Battista,Edge and HHH. I spoe he still likes them, but as hes in his room hours as per every teenager, I dont know exactly what hes watching on telly and comp - dread to think!
My granddad also like the football odf course, and you could hear him swearing at the telly (the ref )on a Sunday afternoon. Nan would hide in the kitchen to escape. He took me to a game at Leyton Orient when I was 7ish.All I rem was that it was cold and that they lost.
This was Brill! I'm glad this is the 1st I've ever seen of thiers.
So having said that-is 'Mastermind' always a comedy skit for a particular program (like in the US Rosanna Rosanadanna was a skit Gilda Radner-sorry if I spelled it all completely wrong I'm horribly dyslexic-did for Saturday Night Live, when it was in it's hey day?
Or was it a legitimate question/answer game show & they sporadically did little parodies of themselves?
Mastermind was a very long running legitimate quiz, first show from 1972 to 1997, with the quiz master Magnus Magnusson, who is shown in this clip.
In the real show, there were two rounds, the first round comprised of questions on a specific subject chosen by the contestant. This subject could be quite obscure, such as "Christianity 30-150 AD", and the second round would be general knowledge, but again quite hard questions.
It was revived in 2003, but unfortunately without Magnus Magnusson.
Im not sure who done it 1st but i think the 2 ronnies mastermind sketch is alot funnier! Its faster and flows alot better! This is a great sketch tho!
As always, perfect timing and delivery from eric but also faultless back up from ernie..superb sketch.I think what always came across with these two was the love and respect for each other as well as the joint ambition to make each sketch as good as it could possibly be ,regardless of who got the funny lines.Thankyou for sharing this with us,Ratpackmanreturns, as you say ABSOLUTE CLASS !!!!!!
I think it was originally from a 'Mr Memory' sketch where Eric couldn't remember anything and needed prompting from Ernie, and it then became a running joke. (Remember Major Ingram on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?)
These two were so awesome, I only caught the latter end of thier TV stint, but I enjoyed thier "chemistry" together, It's such a shame, they have both "departed", as thier comedy won't ever be beaten, But they remain in my heart as one of the best double-act's of the years gone bye.
