  • I love this. The moves in this aikido demo are short and very street realistic-as opposed to traditional long sweeping arcs. I know it's a different martial art--but some of what Shihan Stephen J Gamma (lighting hand school) teaches reminds me very much of aikido techniques.

  • I train with Sensei Weber. Very good demonstration, i was glad to see roundhouses, low punches and overheads. I think we need more of these demonstrations to promote this form of Aikido. I like this form because it includes the most practical self defense from many martial arts. Best of the best and seriously, who wants to knock out someone if they start punching... what if it was your brother..

  • how practical is aikido in real life?

  • Very. Depends a great deal on the practitioner like any other art. I have found it to be a little more practical from a legal standpoint as the ability to apply only as much pain as needed instead of striking full force gives more control. The drawback to aikido is that it takes much longer to gain proficiency in the art than many others. If you're dedicated, though, it's a great defense art.

  • wow thanks Im signing up for Ng Aikido Tommorow.

  • Very nice to see NGA practice. I studied that style for many years. Thanks for bringing good memories!

  • Not to insult you guys nor disrespect, but there were no committed attacks performed by uke. It seemed very soft even in slow motion. Nage has his back on the other attacker most of the time. If this was on the street, Nage would have been nailed down already from behind. Be more aware where the attackers are.

  • Wasn't set up as a multiple attacker drill. Maintaining knowledge of all attackers is something we focus on each time we do multiples. The attacks are dynamically correct in that the energy is moving in the path that it would with even the most committed attacks. Keep in mind that we weren't looking to break each other but to feel the energy and redirect it. Thanks for the comment.

  • I guess the title confused me. Randori means multiple attacker in Aikido terms. I've seen many Aikido randori and most of them focused on blending and body postures. Most of them have their back straight up and seldom leaning down. Nihon goshin teaches blending to break the Uke's balance. The only way to redirect someone's energy is to break their balance with correct body posture.

  • Randori can be with one or many attackers. I don't mind seeing flaws in practice. I just like seeing practice. Keep posting.

  • Actually this style seems pretty plausible, if things were sped up. Of course they can't be for a video, otherwise someone might get hurt.

  • Very nice, I see some faces I remember from when I used to train there in 2005! If you guys need a videographer for some more samples let me know, I am still in Roanoke.
