In the "golden age" of islam, werent the predominant rulers Ottomans, who were VERY much an Imperial system? Also , one could argue that the more prosperous and advanced Turkey (a VERY secular nation) is a great example of a country in this region doing better then its neighbours BECAUSE its not influenced as strongly by religion.

@angryzombie79 lol, you know it is quite common that muslims talk about what is called "golden age" which is pretty much a lame term to mask the advancement of an empire on bloodshed, pretty much like romans and persians in the old times. yet there are other muslim groups who specify this term to only the prophet time, because afterwards the true blood lust began and it no longer was based on islam which was pretty much an excuse to invade, just like in europe at that time.

on the bright side, some like in the video define that golden age by productivity, which was a character in early islam with development of basic scientific notions the implication of which still persists today..to that end, i agree very much

The time when the muslim world was progressive and "leaders" in ANY field are LONG past. Your people study religion now, instead of science. Your religion now hamstrings the arts, literature and anthing other then fundamentalism. THIS is why the islamic nations of the world are (predominantly) poor and backwards, and led by intollerant regimes. Look at the recent riots and murders of protestors in the muslim world. Religion over all means totalitarianism.

There never was a 'Muslim civilisation' during the so called Gold Ages, a huge percentage of the Middle East was actually still Christian then, well over 30%. And Christians in the Middle East invented just as much - particularly the Assyrians. Don't call it an 'Islamic Age', it was more like a 'Middle Eastern Age', where the Middle East was more advanced than Europe. It had nothing to do with Islam. Basically all the inventions came from either Assyrians or Persians.
