i was in paris, exactly by the moment when they filmed the "arc du triomphe" scenne of this film ("Skyfighters" in english) i do not remember if it was 2004 or 2005 i was both years by the July 14 (french national day) and they made that scene that day couse there is no way a mirage perform a low-pass over Paris but the very national day (its forbiden). They went underground, created the resistance and fought germans. In Poland, where I live, there is a cult of a warrior, heroes and so on. Yup, we fought germans during WWII and during the Warsaw Uprising. And we failed in both. But this is our nature- Frenchmen were fighting in the Hundred Years War, During first world war, and now they have great army.

They could have kept fighting, technically, but it would have been a sure loss, and would have destroyed a lot of the country. Saying that they "gave up seeing how powerful the Nazis were" makes it sound like they took one look and dropped their weapons. They fought quite hard for some time, but were overwhelmed.
