do you have a 40,60 or 80 gb ps3? then I think it's normal to get hot, i mean, it's an old machine... and yeah my ps3 craches sometimes but mostly just a short freeze (10 sec's) ut can be annoying sometimes but you get used to it ;)

I broke the brass coloured connectors on the back of my ps3 hard drive and i need to know what they did. I only broke the ones on the right side of the hard drive, Its the 4 little metal things sticking up on the right. I put the hard drive back in and it worked fine until i had an awful lag playing online video games. My internet said its at 100% and my brother plays on my other ps3 and his internet is fine no lag. Does this have to do with the broken connectors?

yes it will but there are many ways of fix the corrupt hard drive, easiest way is to format it on the computer that way i did it. swapped out my mac pros hard drive a formated it and swapped them back. if you want to buy a new one and upgrade it make sure that its a 2.5 inch hard drive so that it will fit.

1. you don't need to format the internal hard drive before putting it in your ps3.

2. you didn't even tell people to back up their memory with an external hard drive...the external hard drive is the only thing you need to format, and it needs to be formatted to FAT32

3. the right hard drive to get a 2.5", 5400RPM, SATA HARD DRIVE...i know you mention the part about it being 2.5" and SATA but you forgot the 5400rpm?

no it will only say that if you put in a new hard drive. once you format a hard drive for a playstation you wont have to do it again. :)

LOL @ the ps3. the hard drive is so hard to remove. atleast with the xbox 360 al you need to do is press a button and pull the hard drive off, i wanted to play my downloaded rock band music at mu cousins, so i remove the hard drive on my 360 and used it on his. plus you can delete individual files on the 360, like DLC.

You can save and transfer your game saves to an external hard drive. Just press triangle on the save and then highlight copy and press x. If you have a SD,MEMORY STICK inserted in your memory card reader or a external hard drive connected to the USB , it will ask you which one to copy to. Either one is fine and you can even use an IPOD or a usb thumb drive to copy your game saves too also !

Buy a external hard drive. load all of your saved data unto it. Also buy a internal harddrive, to transfer your previous saved data, from the external harddrive, to the internal one. It has to be 2.5 in size, and a serial SATA

I believe that all you need is just a Phillips Head screw driver...and all the videos I've seen suggest a standard screwdriver and NOT a power one as not to strip the screws...these videos have been so very helpful!

Yeah you can back them up I just did it, there's a backup utility you can use that copies everything just fine, I've had no problems.

That actually happened to a buddy of mine, it sounds like the blu ray laser is Bad, you should be able to get it fixed through warranty if you've owned it for less than a year. I think you can buy the blu ray laser seperatly if it's out of warranty if you want to open up the console.

What size screwdriver you ask? It doesn't really matter just a smallish phillips one. You don't acually need the flathead one the plastic HDD cover comes off easy enough to do it with a fingernail in fact I'd say don't use a screwdriver there so as not to risk a scratch. The max size is now 500GB $120-$200. This really is not complicated at all.

eBay is the best place to get one cheaper. I got a 250GB Western Digital Notebook HDD for $63 and it works great. I don't know what other brands are PS3 compatible, but Western Digital is the best for it from what I've heard.

So why do you need to format it on a PC first? Every time I have done it, I just put the hard drive directly into the PS3 (without formatting) and the PS3's formatting seems to work good enough, just seems kinda pointless to me to preformat

Some operating systems wont recognize the drive if it not in some format. Sometimes a drive may come to you RAW-as in blank having no format. But if the PS3 formats that anyways then I agree with you.

Also you have to use a special free program or OS that can format a drive larger than 30GB because Windows has a limit on the FAT32 format.

Sorry for the really late response, but you should be able to get one from just about any place that sell computer hardware. You can copy any important stuff to an external HDD including demos and saves. If you don't want to spend to much money you can always use flash drives. They work just as good.
