  • this is how you do it! i swear i looked at like 15 videos on doing this and non of these noobs covered the distributor and alternator! thanks!

  • Thanks James I appreciate the good words!

  • Awesome information. To me, this genleman has showed how to add true value to my car with 30 minutes of my time, and less than $10 of auto product.

    Thanks for sharing!

    James

  • This is one of the most educating videos that I have seen on Detailing an Engine....Thank you very much for sharing it !!!!!!!

  • @cookmagi Glad you enjoyed it, thank you very much for the kind words!

  • I would pay for a pro cleaning like you did there!

  • Gloves are a great idea, eye protection?

  • @MrGrammartroll Yes good idea thanks! I hate wearing them they fog up.

  • Thumbs up for porn music!!

  • You are the king of detailing. Thanks for the vid, very well done.

  • I use to clean my engine on my car and I had two misfires on two occasions that went away, but the last time my mass air flower sensor went out and it cost me 300 bucks (10 seconds later). I just dont think electrical and water get along. I have a 2000 Corolla. BTW, this is the best video on you tube because all the precautions were taken, everywhere else you see guys spray everything and drain the car. Great video.

  • I signed-in just to say "THANK YOU" for a wonderful and well presented video. Great Job.

  • I signed-in just to say "THANK YOU" for a wonderful and well presented video. Great Job!

  • ive looked up a bunch of detail engine cleaning videos. Your work is hands down the best. Much appreciated. I really mean that. Thanks so much for your effort. It really is well appreciated!

  • WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWwww

  • what's the name of this song? It's awesome like Gran Turismo menu beats!

  • Great video!

  • wow this has to be the most informative engining cleaning of them all. also wat if u dont have compressed air will a strong leafe blower do? lol its cuz my engine did look good but my radiator blew due to overheating blew the cap off n anitfreeze got almost everywhere so will cleaning it like this clean up the engine? or just make it look better then now?awesome before n afte pictures by the way.

  • Nice video, the music was only a little cheezy, not bad at all.

  • Is your Citrus degreaser an ok alternative to Green Stuff?

  • Nice demonstration, but please wear eye protection next time.I speak from experience.

  • music is fab I.M.H.O. ~ what is it please?

  • whats wrong with silicone spray. why wil it foul sensors and turn on the engine management light?

  • so the wd40 will not damage the electrical wires? or get them wet?

  • this should be titled engine Detail. I spray and ride. Super job.

  • The Best video on cleaning an engine. Thanks for all your hard work in developing a better and more educated industry on a daily basis.

  • i drive ford falcon BF XR6, how would i clean that

  • ALWAYS use safety glasses when you use any chemicals..a trip to E.R. is way more costly than the money you'll make from cleaning/detailing the whole car

  • thank really helpful

  • so romantic ..gonna go make love to my engine

  • Great :)

  • Nice work. Really informative video. Im kinda new to owning a car and taking care of it, so I have a few, what Im sure are stupid, questions. Does cleaning the engine make a car run better? Cas if there's to much durt and junk been knocked up after some off road driving i would imagine it has some poor side effects. Are there some other things i could do besides changeing the oil to make my car run better? Maybe oiling pistons or somthing. This is my first car, and it's more or less a shit box.

  • @chickurken

Changing spark plugs can be affective and cheap. Normal ones are usually around $5 for one.

  • @chickurken LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • awesome!

  • nice work detailking

    nice vid

  • NICE! VERY WELL DONE!

  • wow looks amazing!! thanks for the vid :D

  • wow... nice work

  • Sweat

  • What are some places I can go to for the brushes, like the cone brush? Tried looking around, but having a hard time finding them. There a lot of tight areas that I could use the cone brush to clean those areas.

  • so about how much would it cost to have someone do this? and were can i get it done i live in albuquerque nm. and if not were can i get one of those brushes and were do i get the green stuff?

  • ok thank you for the advice about not using coca cola sry it took me so long to repsond ive been a youtuber for a long time but just recently figuring out how to chat an view what ppl send to me

  • Great vid, DetailKing!

-- Just one thing: Is the cheezy music REALLY necessary? I would rather have heard commentary from you (or whomever you wanted to do a voice-over). But DO leave the text on the screen. It helps your message stick in a viewer's head!

  • @lieutenantcracker

Sorry for the "cheexy" music. Its just from the video editting software. Glad you enjoyed the video!

  • The engine runs like a sewing machine. I cleaned the engine by hand with dawn soap in a empty ice cream bucket and some rags and it took care of everything. Spent 9 hours doing it though....

  • was wondering if u could do a vid of removing rust from a rim of a truck an i was also wondering if coca cola really works or is there any other house hold remedies i could use

  • @jahdeer123 Removing rust from a rim is not in the detailing process. Not many people will be able to repair wheels without the proper equipment which is pretty expensive. That is a whole different business that requires tools that the car enthusiast will most likely not spend the money on just to repair their own wheel. I will add it to the list of suggestions for videos though and maybe we will have it up in the future! I don't recommend using coca cola for anything.

  • I have about 15 years of undetailed engine grease in my car that I just bought. What do you recommend? I have a 89 Volvo 740 GL with a little over 300,000 miles on it. $300. Can't complain.

  • @FalloutFanMan3 I recommend our Green Stuff Magnum degreaser. If the car is this old with this many miles on it though you want to be extra careful not to get the distributor cap wet, the alternator wet, (you should cover both of these with plastic) or get too much water in where the spark plugs are. You also want to make sure you don't blow any electrical connections or wires loose. If the engine is running rough it might be a good idea to stay away from detailing the engine in the first place.

  • Thanks for this, the most intellligent and helpful vid on the subject ever. I'm impressed with your tips for taking care of the electrics and delicate parts, in fact so impressed I'm feeling inclined to go out and tackle the filthy heap under my hood!

  • Wow, finally someone does it the right way :) thumbs up!

  • It is Very good to see a Real Professional in action.Detailking01 made this look easy.I guess he is the King!!!

  • Finally! The Proper way to clean an Engine! Now Thats a really Clean Engine! Nice Work!

  • sweet...nice work and details no pun intended

  • trousien you should make a video one a luxury car on how to clean it because they have engine covers and stuff so its kind of different

    i also agree.

  • Thank you for the helpful tips. Now I know exactly what I need to do with my GMC Yukon's engine to brighten it up.

  • Thank you for the helpful tips. Now I know exactly what I need to do with my GMC Yukon's engine to brighten it up.

  • you should make a video one a luxury car on how to clean it because they have engine covers and stuff so its kind of different

  • Good suggestion. We will put that on the list of upcoming videos. Until we do, the difference is that newer cars are much easier to do because you have less things to cover up and worry about; and there are more plastic parts to clean and dress.

  • @trousien a corolla has an engine cover, it's all similar just not as fancy

  • Great video. Best I've seen. Thank you

  • Thanks for the kind words. Check out our other videos as well!

  • where did u find the green stuff degreaser sir

  • We sell this product and use is to detail engines. You can call 888-827-2757 for more details or to purchase some for yourself! This product works great.

  • Cleaning the engine, is it just for the LOOK! or will the car perform better after cleaning it??

  • A clean engine can run cooler and it is also easier for a mechanic to detect leaks and work on the engine if it is clean. Getting your engine detailed when you are trying to sell your car can really help you sell it and get more money for the vehicle.

  • @detailking01 Thanks!

  • Great video !

how long does it take you to do all this?

  • It normally takes 15-20 min to clean an engine.

  • im 16 and im thinking of starting a detailing type thing up here in ohio out of my s10 i have watched almost all your videos and learned a lot, do you have any tips or free advice. thanks for any info you can give me. WHO DEY

  • @JeepCherokeeKid Thanks for taking the time to watch all the viedos, Im glad you learned from them. Yes you can run your detailing business out of your pick-up. You may want to consider attending our seminar we are only 1 state over from Ohio. Give us a call anytime to discuss all the possibilities. Thanks for writing! 1888-314-0847)

  • What are you asking?

  • That is one clean Safari.

  • Thanks!

  • Great video and do you spray the WD40 on all eletrical connector blocks?

I dig the music in the first part, who is the artist / name of song?

    Thanks

  • Thanks and yes you spray WD40 on the electrical connector blocks to keep water from getting into them and causing any problems.

The music is just a generic song from the editting sofware program (Pinnacle). I don't have the name of the artist but the song is called Great Divide if that helps at all.

  • hi great vid.just a question.if u spray wd40 on the wires what will happens after u use the degreaser???will it also remove the WD40 and not protect tthe wires from the water anymore???tks for ur help(by the way my car is a TVR chimaera V8)

  • nice vid

    very helpful

if i only use the degreaser and not the dressing, would that cause a problem?

  • It will not cause any problems to not use the engine dressing. The dressing is just intended to give the plastic and rubber parts a more shiny look.

  • hey jason im thinkin of doing this i just bought engine degreaser... my friend told me i can just hose it down after letting it sit for a while... do i need to cover the alternator? and do i need to use wd40? Wont WD40 harm the wires? and how does it protect it from water?

  • It will benefit you to use WD40 just as a precaution. This will prevent the water from penetrating into the electrical components and causing problems. WD40 will not harm anything under the hood - it displaces water (WD = Water Displacement) and by doing this will form a barrier around the electrical components and prevent the water from getting in.

  • thanx alot bro... u been more then helpful im about to detail my engine after i install my new header....

  • Depending on how dirty the engine is and how strong the degreaser you might be able to just spray the degreaser on, let it sit for a little while, and then hose it down. If there is alot of grease, you might need to do a little scrubbing. It all depends on how dirty the enigne is.

If the alternator is exposed, cover it. Use WD40 if you want to protect any wires or electrical connections. It will not let the water penetrate into the wires or connections. WD40 will not hard anything.

  • Best video so far that I've come upon regarding engine cleaning. Now I'm confident enough to clean my Chevy Suburban's engine before my long road trip. Thanks for posting!

  • nice vid, but i'm not too sure the green scotchpad would do the painted surfaces inside any good as it contains metal wool. I'd go with the teflon-safe blue version. :)

  • I understand your concern about the green scotch pad. Sometimes the painted surfaces are very greasy and need something more aggressive than a brush. The scoth pad that we are using is probably similar to the blue one you are talking about. There are very aggressive scotch pads out there that can and will damage the paint, but this is not one of those.

  • This being said, I wouldn't recommend the green scoth pad on a show car but these are normally not cars that will need it. Also, if you scrub so hard that you put some fine scratches in the paint, you should be able to fix this with some glaze and/or compound.

  • Been looking for a good car engine cleaning tips on this site, including google. This is the best one I've found in youtube. Thanks.

  • Glad to hear you liked the video and I hope it helped! - Jason

  • You really should wear gloves and a filter mask throughout the whole service procedure. You never know, you could end up with Cancer from continuously being exposed to such chemicals.

Anyways, this was excellent video, i followed it precisely and even my engine performs better after the washing. Thank You

  • Yes it is always good to take extra precautions for your health. Especially if your skin is very sensitive to the chemicals and if you want to keep yourself from breathing in all of the chemicals.

  • how much does that kind of cleaning goes for btw? cos i want to give my car a try like :)

  • The cost of this service will vary depending on what detailing business you have it done by. Normally it will be somewhere around $25-$50 for just the engine cleaning and dressing.

  • very nice video and hey do you guys run your shop in Hawaii? because i could use one for my old car: D

  • We do not have a detailing shop but instead provide business opportunities, equipment, supplies, etc. for people looking to start a business or people who have businesses. We also supply consumers. We are located in Pittsburgh, PA but ship to Hawaii all the time. Let me know if you need anything - Jason.

  • how come you don't cover the battery connectors, air filter box, or other wires?

  • The battery connectors and wires will be fine as long as you spray them down with WD40. The WD40 will not let the water penetrate into the wires. The air filter box is normally sealed tight enough that it is not a major thing to worry about.

  • How come the WD40 does this? I never heard of this technique and is the WD40 bad long-term for the plastic and wires? I was always told to clean under the hood, you had to wrap everything electrical in plastic. I got a Scion tC. Ever clean those?

  • WD40 is a water displacement chemical that was produced for the aerospace industry for rust-prevention. It was perfected on the 40th try, hence the name WD40. Spraying WD40 on all of the wires and electrical connections will prevent water from penetrating and damaging anything. It will not hurt these components in the long run. Covering all of the wires and connections with plastic would take hours while WD40 will only take seconds.

  • I know the new Scion tC's engines are pretty well covered. Most new cars have lots of plastic covering the major components. If the distributor cap or alternator are exposed you want to cover them. Then all you need to do is spray WD40 on all electrical wires and connections.

  • i have an 08 mini cooperS which i have been wanting to clean the engine in for a while. My fear is that because of the supercharger (or is it turbocharger?) i might mess something up. I also can not find the alternator so do i have to worry about covering it up? You made a great video btw, the best i have seen so far!

  • If you cannot find the alternator and it is not in plain sight, you shouldn't have to worry about covering it up because it is probably not going to get too wet. As for the Turbo or Supercharger (I think that it is a Turbo) you should contact the BMW dealership because they will be able to tell you the specifics on what to do and what not to do. Thanks for the nice words and check out the other videos!

  • great video I've done details for 8 years and we some times have problems because of the electrical parts. but now that i saw this video im going to start using w40 great tip. thanks

  • My alternator is not visible, do i have to cover it?

  • No. If it is covered up or not visible there is a good chance that you will not get very much water or any water on it. If you can see it but can't get to it, just try not to spray alot of water in that area.

  • the best engine cleaning video EVER!!!!

do i use the same method for an engine that is EXTREMELY GRIMY? like super oily mixed dirt etc? you know? like whan youve had an oil leak for a looong time and it collects and dries up on the block and valve cover? do i clean it the same way?

  • Yes you use the same method but might need a little more degreaser and more scrubbing to get everything cleaned.

  • thank you so much ser!

  • thank you for the help,i agree with the others very good video.

  • Thank for showing. I want to get my engine clean from long time ago but I just afraid the water will get into the electrical components. I will clean my engine 2morrow.

  • nice vid, I do have some questions.

Does this helps old cars from beginning to rust under the bonnit??

I mean when you have an old car that has not rusted until now but it's full of grease and filth will it help from starting to rust ?

  • what about the starter motor? should i cover that with plastic as well?

  • If it is visible and you think water will get inside, it will be safe to cover it. Anything electrical that is exposed should be covered or sprayed with WD40.

  • Can you go for a drive to dry it?

  • You can but it will take time and get things dirty again. I would recommend letting it sit in the sun with the hood open to dry, or to speed up the process just start it up and rev the engine a little bit.

  • Excellent video, probably could be about 4 minutes though

  • Thanks, glad you liked it!!!

    Nick

  • awesome job man!!!

  • Man once again great vid. I've been watching alot of detailing vids tonight and this one was the only helpful non-idiotic one. make more!

  • Thanks for the nice words! This is what we teach great auto detailing methods and proceedures!

    Nick

  • Best tutorial for degreasing engine bay

  • Thanks for the video best ine I seen so far.

  • 4.3 liter vortec i think...

  • wow! that's the best engine cleaning on here. can you do that for my car? thanks for sharing vid.

  • and for example a supercharged engine?? is it the same or things change?? and what about engines which has the sparks visibles? like a Grand Prix...i might sound silly but i dont know anything about how to wash an engine... Oh by the way this vid its cool...

  • Is the alternator really the only thing that needs to be covered up? I'm really afraid that I might mess something up and break the car, I've nver cleaned an engine before.

  • what about the timing belt and spark plugs?. u can spray anything in those

  • Good video bro.

  • thanks a lot for taking the time to make this video, all the information is layed out clearly, and we can see the work being done, you really are the detail king haha!

  • thanks for the demo, now i'm not afraid to clean my own engine.

  • what if the car doesn't have an engine cover? Are the steps the same?

  • @mhpchan You want to cover the distributor cap and alternator if they are exposed and be careful round any exposed wires or wire connections.

  • @mhpchan Yes.

  • Thanks for the comments!! Yes the steamer will also help get the job done right, too.

  • Good Job demo, a couple of things to add.. i like to run motor for 5 mins before i clean and as i clean and rinse most... this way when rinsing if you notice the motor running different you avoid certain areas so you don't have motor starting or running issues later...All cars are different...I also use a small steam cleaner for hitting areas the degreaser misses...I also perferr a non greasy dressing(plastic protectant) applied with a rag...This takes me longer but no dirt sticks later...

  • What kinds of plastic protectant would you recommend? Thanks a lot.

  • We sell a non silicone dressing --you do not want to use silicone it could cause havoc with the sensors underneath the hood.

  • Great demo, thanks man..my engine bay never looked cleaner

  • very well done

  • Thanks!!

  • very good demostration!

  • I'd love to clean and detail under my hood but I'm just too afraid I'll get some electrical parts wet and my car will never run again.

  • I just cleaned my wifes Honda Pilot engine today. When I was done...it looked like the day we bought the thing! I like to keep the engines clean. Not only is it nice when I have to work in the engine compartment...I think a repair shop will do a better job for you when they see a clean engine.

  • why do you need to spray wd40 on the wires. good video though.

  • To coat them and insulate them from the water getting inside them and causing the engine not to start. Thanks!!

  • What happens with the left over wax on the fenders? If you don't dry the fenders and remove the wax, the wax itself will clump and become pasty on the fenders, leaving damage to the clear coat.

  • That was a very light coat of our Final Touch Express Wax that was applied. You can wipe it off with a soft towel or assuming you are going to detail the car after the engine is cleaned it will disolve when the wash mitt makes conatct with it. I appreciate your concern though. Thanks

  • What about the dealers that steam wash you engines-- is that safe?

  • Not sure about any dealers still using steam, steam may be too hot for the wires.

  • Thanks for sharing. Now how I can find all those solutions like green stuff and the dressing?

  • loved the video and nice trick with the wd40 finally someone that knows what to do :D thanks helped out a lot

  • Thanks for viewing the video and the nice words!!

  • Less words, More results! Very impressive all the useful information on the video. FINALLY somebody who knows how to do it right!

    Keep it up!

    Best Regards

  • Thanks for the kind words. I am glad that this video was useful to you. Check back often for more videos to come!

  • corect me if im wrong this is diesel engine right? how about the gas engine? what are the parts need to cover?

    well detailed presentation.

  • This is not a diesel engine. However if ti was, the same parts need covered still. You want to cover any exposed electrical components, alternator, and distributor cap if they are visible. It is also good to spray down wires with WD40. The WD 40 will repel any water from penetrating into the wires or electrical components. Most newer cars have all of these parts covered up but on older cars you really need to take these precautions.

  • appreciate you posting the how to, helps a great deal. As my old man passed away before I learnt any of this stuff from him.

  • I'm glad this video was able to help you out. If you have any specific questions on the "how to" of anything feel free to call Detail King at 888-827-2757. We will be more than happy to help you out. Also check back often for more videos to come.
