@h3adsh0ts989 rifle grenades allow to save some weight by not carrying an under barrel grenade launcher. It gives more flexibility to riflemen without restricting the use of grenades to the few who have a launcher (though not every men carries rifle grenade). But some french regiment also use M203 ;)

The Brits have never really been good at war. The fled at Dunkirk in WW2 thx to the French who held of 7 German divisions in Lille.
The Brits then surrendered in 1942 to the Japs at the Battle of Singapore even if the British forces numbered 100 000 men and the Jap forces were 30 000.
The Brits have surrendered to the French in 1066 and again in 1154.
Then they surrendered to the Dutch, of all people, in 1688.

In the case of the French invasion they must've had the better battle plan, took us by suprise and used it to their advantage.

Do you know the battle of Stonne? of Abbeville? the siege of Lille? The French in 40 fought desperately, like the British, Belgians and Dutch. But we had been too little prepared for this war. The US army was poor in 1940 too, no army in the Alliance could have stopped Hitler. Pétain did what he thought right given the circumstances.

The Brits have never really been good at war. The fled at Dunkirk in WW2 thx to the French who held of 7 German divisions in Lille.
The Brits then surrendered in 1942 to the Japs at the Battle of Singapore even if the British forces numbered 100 000 men and the Jap forces were 30 000.
The Brits have surrendered to the French in 1066 and again in 1154.
Then they surrendered to the Dutch, of all people, in 1688.

In the case of the French invasion they must've had the better battle plan, took us by suprise and used it to their advantage.

@Nettempereur During WW2 , they maybe fought with bravery but at the end they were retreating on all fronts , just look at what rommel did with 1 division , Verdun , the place were 160 000 french gave their life to defend it fell in 24h , Petain signed the armistice , so they gave up , but yeah after the free french force did a good job , with generals like koening , leclerc , juin , De Tassigny and so on , but it doesn't change the fact that France in 40 has been humilated .

Do you know the battle of Stonne? of Abbeville? the siege of Lille? The French in 40 fought desperately, like the British, Belgians and Dutch. But we had been too little prepared for this war. The US army was poor in 1940 too, no army in the Alliance could have stopped Hitler. Pétain did what he thought right given the circumstances.

@NasriTheNewKing Je ne crois pas que la France ait jamais eu l'intention d'attaquer, l'offensive dans la Sarre est un évènement aberrant dans la doctrine militaire française de l'époque. C'est probablement les politiques qui l'ont poussé pour dire qu'il soutenait la Pologne. En réalité, la doctrine a toujours été la même: attendre et repousser. Et je ne critique pas la ligne Maginot, si seulement on avait pas fait confiance aux Belges et on l'aurait terminé jusqu'à la mer.

Que l'URSS ait attaqué la Pologne, je n'ai jamais lu nulle part que ça a stoppé les vélléités françaises tout simplement parce qu'il n'y en a jamais eu de vélléités. Foch est l'exception; Franchet d'Esperey pensait la même chose mais tu oublies que la majeure partie du pays a cru envers et contre tout à la der des der: il n'y a pas pire aveugle que celui qui ne veut pas voir, cela s'applique aux peuples aussi.

Tu te trompe , La France et l'Angleterre sont aussi entré en guerre contre La Russie , puisque La France a demandé un chemin d’accès la la Suède et la Norvège pour soutenir les Finlandais dans leur guerre hivernal , ils étaient sur le point d'envoyer environ 50 000 soldats mais seulement la Suède a refuser l’accès .

@NasriTheNewKing Ouais ben parlons en du plan d'aide à la Finlande, il a été si timide qu'il y a eu des mois d'atermoiements et qu'au final, il n'a jamais quitté la version papier. Je ne sais pas si cet argument contrebalance véritablement la stratégie depuis longtemps établie de la défense statique. Mais effectivement il existait bien un plan au cas où. Après tout, c'est le travail des Etat-Majors de faire des plans, c'est ce qu'ils font encore de mieux ^^

Sur le papier ou non l'intention était la , a ceux moment là , la Russie était considéré comme ennemie , mais bon il fallait si attendre aussi de la pars de la Russie , ils ont échoué misérablement en 1920 contre une armée munie de cailloux avec Lenin et on recommencé en 1939.

Je n'est pas dit qu'il ne voulais pas détruire la France , il avait l’intention de faire la guerre mais il voulais s'en occuper en derniers , un bouquet final en quelque sorte , mais bon les Ardennes ont eu raison de la France . Un simple petit détail laissé de coter , comme Napoléon a dit , entre une victoire éclatante et une défaite désastreuse il n y a que des détails .

Renseigne toi sur le putsch de 61, mais peut-être que tu en sais déjà pas mal. Les Américains n'expliquent pas tout, il faut bien voir nos propres faiblesses.

Certes la 1er guerre mondiale était toujours présente dans les mémoire française mais cela était aussi le cas chez les Allemands , d'ailleurs dans Mein Kamfp Hitler dit Clairement que la France est le derniers des pays a qui il veux déclaré la guerre , seulement Hitler était fou , ainsi que son entourage , seul Ludendorff était contre son projet il a d'ailleurs était évincé du gouvernement .

Après il ne faut pas oublié que Hitler a plongé toute l'Allemagne dans une des plus grande propagande que cette terre est vue , ce qui n'est pas le cas de la France , si seulement les Pétain et autres auraient écoutés De Gaulle D'abord en 1921 puis en 36 , tu peux être sure que 40 se serait passé différemment , mais bon le passé est le passé .

@Nettempereur Pendant l'entre de guerre , tous le monde savaient que sa repartirai , je me souvient d'ailleur d'une phrase de foch qui disait , ce n'est pas une paix que nous signions mais une pause de 20 ans , de ce qui est de l’Indochine , la France voulait utiliser l'arme atomic , donc cela prouve qu'elle ne voulais pas abandonné l’Indochine , L'Algerie a mobilisé plus de soldat français que l’Indochine , ça aussi sa montre le contraire .

@NasriTheNewKing The French people was under shock. It is easy to mock the French army of 1940 but it doesn't change facts: 100,000 French soldiers killed, they did not die because of disease! They died in action, in only 6 weeks so a death ration higher than Normandy's landings. But as you don't watch any Ridley Scott's film on that, you think they fought badly. Humiliation is rather on the people who had not seen how obvious war-monger Hitler was.

When Napoleon Ist invaded Prussia sixty years before, he had the better army (and the better artillery). It doesn't mean the Prussians gave up. Just they could do nothing as the Prussian army was completely old-fashionned.
