500 letters may not be enough.I have long thought of the dam as a headstone that should read,"Here lies Hetch-Hetchy.Born Day 5-Died 1923.Never has so much been sacrificed by so many for so few." As a registered Democrat,it's not often I do this, but to quasi-quote Ronald Reagan,"Senators Boxer and Feinstein,TEAR DOWN THAT DAM!"
We Paiutes were approached to build a casino or resort hotels and complexes at Pyramid Lake. The Paiutes quickly shot that idea down, because certain places hold a special spiritual significance to us. We Paiutes would never put anything in Hetch Hetchy that would ever destroy the beauty of one of our beloved places. When the Paiutes turned down the development of Pyramid Lake many non-Indians were surprised, but we weren't.
Very Interesting, but what happened to the story Paiute Indian people? My family were the Indians that lived and camped in Hetch Hetchy Valley and they were Paiutes. Good video, but just mentioning that so people are aware of the Paiute Native American presence in Hetch Hetchy Valley.
Hetch Hetchy valley was stolen from the American people for the greed of san francisco! Americans need to move forward to remove the dam that has inundated Hetch Hetchy.
