  • This song makes me laugh

  • I think they used different horses because right before it changed color it was cut out of the scene and the yellow horse walked differently

  • ONE SHOOORRRTTT DAAAAYYYY IN THEE EMERA---- wait....

  • the guys at 0:45 have hilarious accents. pat pat hey'al, pat pat thay'll (here there) and they have funny hats xD

  • Poor Judy, how she was altered for this role...physically... :\

  • @snowflakelove105 physically??? how is she supposed to look?

  • Pat pat here pat pat there? WTF No way, listen to them. They're saying "Packard Bell, Packard Bell, with a couple of brand new bauds." lol

  • press 6 and find the big OZ ;)

  • can you even dye my eyes to match my gown? jolly old town!:D

  • how did they get a red horse, then purple, then yellow

  • @sparklieashley270 the dvd says they dyed the horse with jell-o

  • @sparklieashley270 They used the same horse for all the scenes. They just dyed him different colors for the different shots. Animal Activists would not let them use real dye on the horse so they used Jell-O crystals instead!

  • this makes me laff

  • for totem it would have been brush brush here. Bursh brush there solid as a pair of claws. That's how we keep you nice and strong in the wounderful land of oz.

  • @KMBHailstone lol im cracking up

  • can't go wrong with abit of Oz!

  • Damn, get up at 12:00 and start at 1:00 then lunch at 2:00? I'd kill for those hours.

  • Man, I wish I had a horse that could change colors. If it can turn blue, that'd be sweeeeeeet!

  • The Lion must be braver than he admits. I'd be terrified if four woman were haphazardly twimming my hair with garden shears while singing and laughing.

  • 1:20 - Der Löwe :D

  • Haha! This week's Dexter episode was titled 'Horse of a Different Colour'. I immediately had a moment of nostalgia. :)

  • Why would you dislike this song? It's so happy and so nostalgic!

  • The witch is my favourite... i'll get you my pretty, and you little dog too!!

  • I find it funny that the Lions the only dude getting fixed up by girls, hahah.

  • @Crazie982467 dorthy too is being fixed with girls too

  • i always get scared when there like

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA JOLLY OLDE TIME

    HA AHAHAHAHAHAHAH

  • Dang they have awesome hours in Oz

  • "We get up at twelve and start to work at one. Take an hour break and then at two we're done"

How can submit my resume to the Emerald City?

  • @LB030377 Agree. Plus I don't look to bad in green either ;)

  • So they get up at 12, dont get to work till 1, then take and hour for lunch and get off at 2.... WTF what kinda work they be getting done!

  • @JHOWtfft good gig if you can get it

  • @haloreachownsfeggedy

WHAT KIND OF FUCKING SONG IS THAT...?

  • HA HA HA!

    HO HO HO!

    and a couple of TROLOLO's.

Thats how we Troll the day away,

In the Merry Old Of Oz!

  • You cut the video off just as Nancy Pelosi comes flying by the city on her broomstick.

  • Don't forget Frank Morgan, who sings the start of the song and drives the Horse of a Different Color (he also plays the Wizard and a couple of Emerald City guards.)

  • i love the lion(:

  • the emerald city isnt really emerald! It is an illusion put on by green tinted glasses that in the original book states that the wizard makes anyone that enters the city wear green tinted glasses, that "helps dim the radience of the emeralds" the city is actually bronze

  • To readers who care that our country is circling the toilet-bowl...the optimism of this tune is a FLASHBACK to the OPTIMISM and positivity that our country once manifested. SUBTRACT the words and the singing and listen to the tune. The non-vocal instrumental is on the CD release. It is a pinnacle of simple and beautiful American elegance and positivity. All things have to die...and this former elegance...along with our country...is not only merely dead, it's really most sincerely dead.

  • @billturgeon You mean during the great depression? I think movies like this were designed to force optimism onto the people, rather than to express their optimism.

  • I just realized...isn't the Cabbie played by the same man who played the Wizard?

  • @joshscomputer Yep! Frank Morgan (see above).

  • @joshscomputer The Wizard, Cabbie, DoorMan, Guard, and Prof. Marvel.

  • Scrub Scrub here,

    Scrub Scrub there.

    Whether you're white or bronze,

A man can wash another man,

In the merry old land of Oz

    ---

    Family Guy

    Hahahahaha

  • @epilefissar THANK YOU!!!! :DDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • I love this song.

  • I wish i could get up at 12 and start work at 1, take an hour for lunch and then 2 be done...

  • ....How did the get the horses to be those colors? XD

  • @kakashidemon321 Magic ;) No, seriously, I think they used food colouring or jelly mix. There's a commentary with an Oz expert on the 4-disc DVD. Also, if you look closely, you can see Jack Haley have difficulty getting down from the carriage at 0:35. Bert Lahr and an extra help him get down. Poor guy.

  • @kakashidemon321 In fact, they used Jello (seriously!). One of the biggest problems with filming this song was that the horse kept trying to lick himself!

  • Oh God, only after all these years have I noticed that the horse changes colors.

  • LOVE the purple / red / yellow horse.

  • i'm 25 and i'm not ashamed to say, i love wizard of oz, chitty chitty bang bang, mary poppin and annie and chicago. and i dnt know how to sing. talk about havin huge broadway dream man. LOL

  • Little did they know that Oz's favorite past time was rape and murder.

  • LMFAO the lion is just ridiculiously gay sometimes xD no wonder hes my favorite in the whole movie bahahaha x3

  • The ladies who give Dorothy a makeover are really lucky at the time to give Judy Garland a makeover. She's was already big even before OZ came out! RIP JUDY GARLAND!

  • Well, that's a horse of a different color. xD

  • haha 1:21 the lion is fkin gay! great movie though

  • That horse brings back some very nice feeling memories

  • Lol haahaahaaa hoo hoo hoo lol ok im nutsssssssssss lol

  • I REALLY need this and it keeps freezing D:

  • When Dorothy asks if they can change her eye color to match her gown, does anyone think of the horrible doctor from WWII that used to perform all those awful experiments on the people? He used to try changing eye color by torture. Strange.

  • Jolly Good Fun! <3

  • This is a jolly ol' classic.

  • i luv this song!

  • Jolly good fun!

  • The cabby sounds like Jerry Nelson

  • haha I could never watch this quietly. I would always have to comment on how, not just the horses color changed, but the breed of horse. The first one looks like a Quarter horse, the second, a pony, the third a Saddlebred.

  • i always loved that horse that changed colors, i always told my mom "i wanna horse like dat mommy" :)

  • sometimes i imagine that disney makes a traditionally animated film out of this story and this story becomes a world in the kingdom hearts series

  • "the many-hued Horse of a Different Color wasn’t actually painted. Instead, animal rights activists advocated that the white horse be sponged with different flavors and colors of gelatin and then physically restrained from licking it off." from the amazing fact generator

  • I've always loved the horse <33 They're my fave animals, and when I was younger, I always wanted one that could change colours XD

  • I feel sorry for that horse that had to have so Much dye on him.

  • Ahhhhh I loveeeeee this movieeee! <3

I am pretty sure this is my FAVORITE part of the movie! <3

  • My highschool is doing this play, and auditions are this week, so Friday in choir we sang this :)

  • 1:09 - I could never quite catch what in the world they were singing there. Thanks for the lyrics.

  • Comment removed

  • @DreamDancer82 "Jolly old town" was said 1:09

  • 'Can you even dye my eyes to match my gown?' --- That's my favourite line from this whole song; And that's my favourite song from this whole movie. :D

  • Just to clarify things up, im in a Wizard of Oz play and I sing this song and it is "Tin or Brass"

  • On this day in 1939, The Wizard of Oz, which will become one of the best-loved movies in history, opened in theaters around the United States.

  • the horse changed his color from red to yellow, lol =D

  • The best film, always is, always was.

when i was little my mum taped this ever since i could remember and when we picked up my older sister from school, we had no toys in the U.K, so i was squeezing the tape and holding it in my arms instead:)

  • Do all the men look like they have spray on hair?

  • i love that color changing horse. :D

  • My favorite movie. Period. If I could take only one movie with me to a deserted island, this would be it.

  • @ginger1961 I agree with you

  • Comment removed

  • pardon my french, but...i have to say that, without a doubt , this movie is sheer Fucking Genious !..song writers, music producers, story writers , cast of actors...no one would ever dare to remake this movie..it's just perfect in every way..that's wy, even at the age of 39 , i watch it on tv religiously every year since i was 9...never miss it.. brilliant !

  • The Somewhere Over the Rainbow refrain is revisted in the barber shop sequence. I love Yip Harburg and Harold Arlen, dynamic composers!

  • hahaha I love how they get things done in the merry old land of oz(:

  • does anyone know how how they changed the colour of the horses ... do u think they dyed their fur

  • @markuskiwiswede93 they had paint it and use stop motion to change the colours apparently

  • @markuskiwiswede93 No joke but aparently they somehow covered it in Jelly crystles.

  • @markuskiwiswede93 I understood it was powdered gelatin, like dry jello. The story goes that the horses kept licking off the flavored powder!! Maybe that's why the horse turns the colors that he does: purple (grape), red (cherry), and yellow (lemon)!!

  • @mca1218 Followed by a sickly green no doubt.

  • I'm playing the guard and I sing this. but I'm a girl and it's with another girl

  • This used to be my favourite part of the film when i was little, the magical changing colour horse :)

  • omg god this is too too twee , i'm actually melting from the saccharine sweet sugar

  • I love that little scene where the women are fixing Dorothy's hair and you can here Somewhere Over the Rainbow mixed in with the soundtrack. ^__^

  • @darmhok not my fault I'm 14 and I dnt understand the film u fucking nob

  • @darpop220 You should watch your language! Your only 14, and you don't talk to grown adults like that. Know your place..

  • @pettyofficer30 fuck you. respect doesn't come with age. it comes from giving respect to others.

  • @pettyofficer30 "Know your place"? Really?

  • @pettyofficer30

You really are a 'petty' officer, aren't you?

  • @pettyofficer30 Good manners, not age, afford people respect. And the correct usage of "you're".

  • @darpop220 well i am 14 as well i could understand the joke pretty well from the first time

  • We get up at 12 and start to work at 1 take an hour for lunch and then at 2 were done

Dnt make sence if they get up at 12 and start to work at 1 take an hour for lunch how can they finish at 2

  • @darpop220

wow! they were being facetious, saying they don't really work at all. how it it possible for you to be human and net get that SIMPLE joke. i cna't belive they still make people like you

  • We are doing this show in our theatre company and it is brass. It just has to rhyme with Oz.

  • GREAT!!!

  • its brass

  • brass (:

  • It sounds more like bronze, but I think brass, after looking up the lyrics. :)

  • I always thought it was bronze too.

  • @therandomshow

    I have the script

    It's brass

  • @purplepinnapplejuice

It's BRONZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had 36 people to listen to it!!!!!!!! It's BRONZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And it is totally and completely irrelevant if you have obtained a copy of a Wizard of Oz script!!!!! There are more than one versions of the script if you didn't know!!!!!!!!!

  • @TheRandomShowHQ thank you !!!!!!!!!!! that's exactly right ..its ... whether you're tin or Bronze !!!! lol !

  • @blica1

    Thank you!!! =D

  • I love it completely! x

  • i used to be a person in oz when i was a kid!

  • JOLLY GOOD FUN

  • SURRENDER DORETHY

  • Love this movie. ♥

  • Lol i love this song!

  • Watch the Tin Man between 0:35 and 0:37. Jack Haley wasn't able to move properly in his costume, so the Lion and an Emerald City resident helped him down from the carriage.

  • The lions "ha" cracks me up at 1:20

  • I have only recently realized how much this particular scene has impacted my life. I LOVED this film as a child. And as an adult, I adore Streamline Art Deco, 1930's &1940's clothing, hair, music, autos....and I love green. Thanks for the upload.

  • lmao....look at the tin man at 0:19-0:21

  • i love the horse. they dyed with gelatin i read

  • best song out of the whole movie for me so many good songs

  • definatly the best, i love being at work something goes wrong and ill burst out : "thats how we laugh the day away in the merry old land of oz" they are really getting tired of it lol

  • No, they are right, it is "brass"

  • No, it's bronze. Bronze rhymes somewhat with Oz!!!!! You sing it with brass, then bronze; see which sounds better! I know it is bronze!

  • @TheRandomShowHQ

    its BRASS!!!

    listen to it carefully...

he says BRASS, with an accent, thats why it kind of sounds like bronze.

but if you really listen to it, theres no "N" in the sound.

and its clear that its BRASS.

  • @RamonMarucut

It's BRONZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had 36 people (my 7th grade class) listen to it and they all say it's BRONZE!!!!!!!!!

You are right on one count though, they do have an accent!!!! But I listened and they do make an indistinct "n" sound!!!!!!

  • @TheRandomShowHQ

    lol.

first thing's first, i dont want to start a big fight about this.

just a friendly debate, but not a war. =]

    anyways..

no offense, but 36 7th graders arent very convincing.

i checked the lyrics in over 20 different sites online, and over 10 videos on youtube.

    ALL of them said BRASS.

    i'm not kidding, man.

not a single one said bronze.

  • @TheRandomShowHQ and i listened to this song very carefully, even in slow motion. he says BRASS with a very strong accent. theres no N!!! and the "sss" sound is an S, not Z its BRASS. unless you have really bad computer speakers, thats why youre insisting its bronze. youre the only person on youtube who says its bronze. listen to it carefully, thats all i ask. its BRASS. =]
  • Their crazy laughter at the end always makes me laugh as well. We did this song at school and someone suggested that we bring out a Munchkin in a straitjacket and have just that one do the laughing while the rest of us stand there, but it never happened. :(

  • If ya pause it at 0:34. You can see the backfire of the Tin Man, the fabric on the rear.
