mild mineral oil is whats best for this, and theres an arguement arrising about the harddrives in this, people are saying u get better performance when u chuck in the hard drive aswell, but idk because it would slow the disc speed down inside of it.
you can put your computer inside a NON-CONDUCTIVE WATER, by that the electric wonrt jump around, non-conductive water can be found :pure water, car bettery's water(must be befor putting into the bettery) :) i tested it myself, put 1 electric cable inside a tube and stick your hand in it, and it wont shock coz non-conductive water cant pass electric
so for those of you who havent taken chemistry in high school yet dont do this or you and your computer will die together. you know kind of a f**K you but have a nice day kind of thing.
Obviously you didnt take chemistry in high school. Because if you did you would know oil does not conduct electricity. There for this is completely safe to do. kthxby
Yes, It's real. Read into it. Mineral Oil (and some other liquids) do not conduct electricity therefor cannot short out electronics. I wouldn't reccomend submerging harddrives or optical drives, however, as I'm sure the liquid would wreak havoc on their mechanical workings.
Yes it does work. The problem is that the components aren't designed to work under more pressure than air. So yeah it would work but probably not for more than a few months (on a great build).
@mmould03 well i'm not sure about hard drives but i don't think they would have a problem!!!!!now fof the cd/dvd drive it would not have a problem of shorting out if you use mineral oil!!! but you would have a problem when you would insert a disk in it because it would not run at the speed it sould!!! the liquid would slow the motor down causing it to fail!!!! so if you have the time and the tools you can cut a hole in the tank and put it in like you would put it in a pc case!!!!! :D
It is mineral oil, however test have been done with a form of mineral oil FC-72 perfluorohexane (C6F14) but highly oxygenated. The test subjects (rats) were actually able to breath but died later due to excess lung trauma. So they were able to get oxygen in their body from the liquid, but the lungs could not handle the thickness and the weight of the liquid.
Human lungs cannot contract with that much weight in them, nor could they get enough oxygen content in the liquid for a human, otherwise it would be possible.

hard drives should be vaccuum sealed, (air tight) so the oil/fluid should NOT be able to get in :)

For example DISTILLED water and Vinegar.
Yes it does work. The problem is that the components aren't designed to work under more pressure than air. So yeah it would work but probably not for more than a few months (on a great build).

Ive seen a few guys attempt this with pure de-ionized water. It worked for a while but it eventually caused a short in the power supply.

yeah, cause its water and putting metal in water= bad after a while...
