Harry Nilsson blows my mind. It is now blown. Now all I can utter is a happy "bleep" and wish I were still a DJ in one of Toronto's top clubs. I would have used this for double sure.
@HerrEllsworth I do love this, I'm on a major Harry kick right now, but I think Nez's version has the edge with his talkin' blues delivery, and the incredible ending. Gives it more credibility.
@MAMsMom97 I tend to agree Nez gives more dimension and body to his song with his narrative quality. Nilsson's vocals have a special quality that add a folk style to this song. It would have been great if they had collaborated on this tune.
First became aware of this song via a cover version by Indiana's Wright Brothers band...a medley of this and "Dawson", which they did as both a studio cut and live version (7 min long or so)
I have tried to find this song for so long on here. When i was 10 in 1970 we moved and opened a campground with a rec hall, This was one of the first songs on the Juke Box that i remember along with Ride Captain Ride, Westbound #9 Great songs Great times Thanks for posting
I gotta say, this is one of my all time favourite songs, and im so happy I managed to find the bass tab for this. Also thank you for putting this great song up, so hard to find.
thank you so much for putting all these great Nilsson songs on. I have such a hard time finding anyone who knows Harry. I grew up listening to my parents records of his stuff and it's such a blast to pass on to my daughter
The version I heard back in '69 had a slide guitar riff intro which also featured between the verses and in the fade-out. I'd love to hear that again. 'Rainmaker' is on a list of my own called 'horror rock songs'. The theme - wronged magical figure who takes a terrible revenge on a midwestern town - is pure Ray Bradbury. Sad that this song has almost totally disappeared, and that Harry is best known for Everybody's Talkin' and Without You - two songs he didn't even write.
YES! *big sigh* I have wanted to hear this song for the past 8 years! Have you seen how expensive this cd is? And that's if you can even find it! I have this record, but no record player. Like I sad, eight years! Thank you!
I loved this song best. Now I love the whole album. Do we still have albums anymore?

The intro sounds similar to the intro of Little Miss Lover by The Jimi Hendrix Experience

Get a quality needle when you find the record player. Check out Ebay.

Worn needles can damage records. Diamond needle heads last the longest and have the best sound quality.

Ah__________________________! Best part.
Nilsson wrote songs in almost every genre.
He only completed the 9th grade in high school.
