I was in grade eight when this thing came out. Pretty sure I wore this song out on cassette. Thanks for uploading this blast from my past, man. Great tune.
@vbox8 I agree. I've always hope those lyrics has some kind of hidden meaning (or irony). I'm not english so I've always thought I missed something, to me it's an anti-peace song.Like "warheads" from the same album.
Go through every Extreme song, and listen to every riff and solo. You'll realize how genius Nuno really is when you think about the lyrics of the song, and how Nuno takes the emotion behind the main sentiment of the song and translates it perfectly into music. He's not just noodling around, showing off how fast he can play. He's actually saying something. He thinks about the lyrics, he feels it what the song is saying, and then he plays the emotion on his guitar. That's why he's a genius.
@michaeljjeffrey theres just too much musical depth for their simple minds to comprehend, most people dont enjoy any form of music that isnt the same old 4 notes/chords repeated constantly with the only real variable being when drums or bass are used and when they arent. Its not true for all music nowadays but for the vast majority it is, and these stupid people and their taste have ruined the music of today
@Magmaking13 Real music can never be ruined. It can only be unappreciated. What we hear from pop today is not music. It's manufactured hits, based on audience-tested formulas from controlled demographics for the purpose of maximizing profit on minimal investment. Real music comes from the soul and can never die as long as there are still souls that recognize talent, meaning, and emotion in real music.
@kevnar I couldn't have said it better myself, sort of like how i love listening to classical music, computer game music and also anime music along with good old rnr. As i always say music needs no words to make u feel emotion from a piece, anyway on another note i seriously hope i get to see Extreme again they were just awesome and Nuno blew me away; ive never been the same since :P
@michaeljjeffrey It's because you truly love music, And out of this love of music you "get" music. Like me, you probably hear the riffs in the solo and understand exactly how frustrated Nuno is with how the bad guys keep winning, keep keeping us under slavery, and keep killing those in truly inspire. He's frustrated and he translates that frustration perfectly into music, and the true music lover can hear it clearly, and gets excited.
is it just me? or is the vocal blending of extreme songs especially the choruses a sky flying experience and mind blowing. whoah! and fuck! nuno's riffs and tones are killing me. i love paul gilbert's playing to death but this guy would rip him when it comes to song writing.hehe.
@luzier13x - for me, this was part of the Extreme 'package' and why I love this band - luscious vocal arrangements, insane guitars, pumping hard rock and poignant lyrics.
WHAT ELSE CAN I SAY? AT LEAST WE KNOW THAT ONLY A FEW IN THE WORLD ARE EDUCATED IN GOOD MUSIC. AND IM HAPPY TO BE 1. COS IVE BEEN ENJOYING EXTREME MUSIC FOR ALMOST 20 YRS. ALONG SIDE MR. BIG.
As good as it gets with guitar wizardry. I have to say looking back this is where I got the some inspiration from the voice of Dr. Martin Luther King. Possibly the greatest human to live in the 20th century though some would argue.
I think this album is Extreme's Magnum Opus, much in the same way "Operation Mindcrime" was for Queensryche. The reason this record tanked when it came out was because the fucking CRITICS were all enamored of Kurt Cobain & his Grungy Seattle cohorts. Just a victim of bad timing and ever-changing public taste. One of the greatest rock albums from the 1990's that never got heard. What a crime! Thanks for posting!
ive been playing this song for almost 15 years now.. but still the riffs give me massive headache! still tryin today.. i dont care. i love this song very much.
This album wasn't successful ? You're referring the their latest, or to the "3 sides" album?
Imo, I had a feeling it was kind of successful (3 sides) ... and if not ... it's the best thing they've ever made ... I like their old stuff anyway, tried to listen to the new album ... wasn't impressed ... I guess I prefer this stuff !
No..this album actually tanked pretty hard but thats because the critics were expecting another pornograffiti..and yes i too believe this album was their best.
These critics :). It would be "easy" for musicians to recreate an album time after time ... but usually they want change ... something different ... you can't always please all fans.
They actually made a record that's even better than Pornograffiti.
"More Than Words" was a tough act to follow, Hit-wise.
I agree, though. III Sides is a very very strong album, front-to-back.
It charted, but I always thought "Am I Ever Gonna Change?" would do better. Just a great great all-around SONG, awesome harmonies, riffs out the wazzoo, great rock and roll groove with that driving beat, and of course the required Nuno-shred factor ;)
this album wasn0t as successful as the others, but for me, hands down, it's their best albuim. it's like a rock opera. for me, it's up there with the best conceptual albums ever
this is melodic metal with songs that make sense and virtuoso licks from nuno and gary has a great voice.they matured on this album, though i do like pornograffitti as well i think this album is their thriller imo.
Great riffs, snarling SARCASM (I'd like to here Mike Patton dueting on this, he does the best sarcasm). Nuno is ______! Not bad for a pop-rock funk-metal band! Saw them live (again) this year (first time in 10++ years) - were NOTE PERFECT -1 of the best live bands performance-wise. UNDERATED!
i think the sound is more refined and the production is tighter. the solos on this album were more groove oriented , pornograffitti had more wailing and tapping and stuff. Never did hear the first album and I havnt heard punchline in a long time.
Another great song off of one of the best rock albums by one of the least appreciated bands of all time (at least as far as the moronic general public goes.....musicians know the difference!)
Definitely! I wish I knew how to play the entire song though. I can only play the part that starts at "Blessed are the warmongers." One of my favorite parts of the song too.
I figured it out by ear...and by watching this other dude play it on YouTube. I refuse to look at tabs!
