  • That was great, while they were talking about the scarce chance of cross-contamination, the FD was buttoning up the deceased's shirt without gloves on..MORON. They were still in the prep room.

  • i took a career aptitude test that was like 500 questions long and my top ideal job was a funeral director! i was like wht?! 0.o. i could my see myself preparing a dead body singing "grave robber at large". lmao death is my business and business is good.

  • @dougvm1970 That's exactly it. Death is a part of life. Someone has to do it. It's a FANTASTIC market opportunity. It's NEVER going out of business. I don't care that aging people die, because everyone's moment comes. It's inevitable. I care that my loved ones and other people's loved ones are no longer around to hang out with...but the actual act of dying is just ya know. The price you pay for living lol.

  • "My business is death...and business is good" :D

  • six feet under... :)

  • that was a very crappy prep room and a crappy little duotronic machine....they need renovating and upgrading!

  • I want to become a mortician, but I have no idea where to start.

  • and then i wound up in the business now im stuck for the past 24 years

  • FYI, most funeral directors are not embalmers unless they are in a state that requires a dual license.

  • Florida requires a dual license, and most embalmers don't like working as funeral directors...they'd rather hang out in the prep room. However, I'm definitely in favor of having both licenses, and understanding all aspects of the profession.

  • I'm dual licensed, but I prefer to hang out in the prep room. I haven't made an arrangement or worked a funeral or visit in 8 years. I do make removals sometimes, though, which I enjoy.

  • @jaundibalm is there on the job training for funeral directors?

  • "your job prospects are good... the aging American population means an increase in deaths" LOL!

  • I didn't think Jews were embalmed. I don't understand why they need to know about embalming.

  • its a requirement to be licensed

  • Most of the Orthodox are not...unless state law requires it - i.e., transferring across state lines etc.

Modern Orthodox Jews do embalm, as well as use metal caskets.

  • That isn't true. Modern Orthodox do not embalm. I've also never seen a metal casket used. NY State requires that all funeral businesses, ORthodox or not, offer those services to anyone who asks for them. It's not a choice for the business.

  • Perhaps it's the Reformed Jews. I know that we've done several services here in which embalming was performed. I'd like for someone else to fill in if they're familiar with this.
