the audience wants the songs the way they remember , if the artist can no longer perform it then playback is the option that allows them to see the artist and hear the songs they love. when we all get older we lose a little something is it so wrong to want to please the fans? or would it be better if they ruined a great song by going live without that something age stole away?
It always strikes me, whenever I see a musician miming (i.e. pretending to sing whilst a precorded song plays), that they look like performing monkeys...
But then, I guess that's what they are... They're a sideshow, there purely for hte amusement of the audience. And once the audience has had enough of them, they are tossed aside, and quickly forgotten... Kinda like old ex-circus animals.
Albert Hammond is a very nice and likeable guy who is one of the world greatest songwriter in the 70s.
He is such a good story teller. He wrote these 2 beautiful long touching stories (especially the second one), and then presented them in an approx 3 min song each ... with memorable catchy melodies. They are certainly classics in the making! Unforgettable! Thank you for posting this video for us.
Excellent songs from a vastly underrated performer and songwriter. Both remind me of my late brother, who was a big Albert Hammond fan...R.I.P. Marty.
Nice songs! I listened to these songs in my daddy's car when I was a kid. I loved them so much and started my passion to learn English and see California someday.
What's the point of uploading what should be a live performance, and "cover" it with playback? I hope it wasn't aired like this on the telly. That's just stupid.
Love Albert, but these sound too identical to recordings... is he (& the 'electric band') amazingly perfect, or LIP sinking? Incredible resume of songwriting... buy his 'Songsmith' CD.
Hope I see him before he's gone. One of my favorite writers.
He is Albert Hammond Senior his son is Albert Hammond Junior plays in The Strokes as well as records sucessfully he is from gibraltar and is internationally renowned for his song writting credentials , the funny thing is he worte it never rains in sothern california in the uk before he went to make it big in the states , so i dont think he is related to any other Hammonds apart from the those in the Rock of Gibraltar
...And Ill tell you more, his family is from Gibraltar, he is part of my family, Im from Gibraltar myself, Ill go further he was raised in the old part of town called Fraser's Ramp. Here in Sunny Gibraltar we are proud of him.
Both of these songs were so under-rated. Great tunes by a great performer. So glad to see he's still around. I was in Panama when these songs were first released. Thanks so much for posting!!
Seen him live, FUCK YEAH! :D

My father is a doctor, he's a familiarly man,
My mother works for charity whenever she can,
They're both good clean Americans who abide by the law,
They both stick up for liberty, they both support the law,
My happiness was paid for when they laid their money down,
For Summers in a Summer camp, and Winters in the town,
