@derbigpr500 Simple,Audi uses mechanical diff torsen or haldex,while merc relies on wheel sensors and its transmission and gearbox system is way complicated,consists of clutches and hydraulically operated linkages and much more electronic/hydraulic things,it may have the ability,to switch off awd,to rwd,but its extremely complicated system.What Audi did,is a hollow drive shaft from the gearbox,which contained a drive shaft to the diff and then to the rw-s.Plus the torsen allows variable split.

@webaliser Quattro was made to be as simple as possible and relaible.The result is,that the system weighs only very little more,than a normal fwd Audi and the torsen diff can change the output power from the engine to tthe wheels,according to what axle would handle it best.You could say,that Audi is the pioneer of awd cars.

I've a long history with these cars, and I have never had one of these systems break down, so why does it matter how complicated they are? It's not like you are mod-ing. @EnderofGames American cars are pumped up with massive engines,their drawbacks start with fuel economy and end up with handling.Yes,merc's system is not so bad,but i was just pointing out its flaws.Though the reason why i praised the quattro so high,is because it was before the others,before the 4 matic,x-drive and others.Thats why its better.Audi is a pioneer,because quattro set a starting point for all awd cars.BMW and other car companies just came along with the idea.

It seems that they last ten years before the rust is already in the interior, and all of the hoses are worn, and there is leaks. the S 4matic use less than 8 liters per 100km at 130-140km/h (so at 120-130 should use about 7,5 liters...but I don't think you will go that slow with that kind of car because it is just like being at 50km/h =))...the normal version of the s class use 0,5 liters per 100 km less than the S 4matic (combinated)

yeah it's huge and fast, but at 120 km/h it doesn't drink much...7 speed-automatic gearbox.Besides, at that speed, the car lowers itself and get closer to the ground...so it's even more aerodynamic and drinks less...My best friend has that car...;) Mercedes makes really good cars...

Actually they both have the same 5.5L engine. In europe it is called S500 traditionally, because of the old V8 eninges from former MBs which all have 5 liters, and it is to create distance to the S600 version. The US version is called S550 because americans think they need much cubic capacity. ;-)
