Upon further research, it was found that Hans Joachim Marseiis, the "Star of Africa" was trained in that aircraft. His aircraft got a bit close to England, and was shot up by RAF Spitfires. After finding that bit of history, it was decided to restore the aircraft to the time when Marseiis flew it.

i remember when russell first purchased his collection, and bought an abandoned strip in fort eerie from the war, and put on the first display of these. i wandered out to the departure end of the strip in the grass and the 109 and spitfire climbedout over my head by maybe 30 feet...pretty rad experience...the next year they had it all blocked off and patrolled. these planes are why i got into aviation.

Radial engines are the worst for smoke when oil collects in the lower cylinders, but there are scavenge pumps to pump out most of it before starting the engine and the reminder burns in the exhaust. Starting a radial with a cylinder filled with oil can create a condition called hydraulic lock that can severely damage it. Cartridge starters were used in some applications.
Yes it was. The CWHM has the only flying Lancaster in North America. It's also the only one you can purchase a flight in. People come from around the world (mostly WII Common Wealth countries) to fly in it. You can see close up video of it in my other clip "Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum Flyfest 2008 Aircraft Start Ups". Note that these videos are not the best - they suffer from lack of close-ups. I think the recording of the vintage engine sounds is their best feature.

there are allready some dogifghts... you can order a flight in an wwII fighter, to fight against another one. It works somehow with infrared, and when you would hit the other one it smokes a bit.

It's not like your average airshow. The museum has a flightline where the planes park or taxi (as shown in the video). The museum building has an upper deck (it has a bar/lounge too) where you can look down on the planes. My camera work was only so-so. Instinctively I zoomed out when I should have zoomed in. I hope to do better at the next Flyfest next June. Hopefully the ME109 will be there again.
Me and my younger brother at one point were thinking about building a Bf 109 but scrapped the idea due to the amount of money we would need and our inexperince at successfully builing things.
