For all who thought only Bad Company had an album, song, band name all the same, HAH! Here's one of the best songs from 60's. For the studio version try myspace.com/octobercountry1968. The first Nuggets box set from Rhino Records has many seldom heard 'garage band' songs from this era (although not this song) if you're looking for a 'trip' down memory lane. Ciao for now, Phil
Oh. My. God. I thought I would never find this song again. As a 12-year-old I LOVED this song on AM radio. I am SO THRILLED to hear it again. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
I can clearly recall seeing the band perform this on T.V. when I was growing up in So. Cal. They were playing outdoors. Perhaps it was an appearance on "Where the Action Is"? I was 10 at the time this song was released. Here I am, at age 52, having never forgotten the song. Here's a belated thanks to October Country for a great song that was part of my childhood.
I heard this excellent song as a boy in 1968, but never knew what the name of the band was until years later. I found a 45 of this in the 80's, it is on the Epic label.
Wow - have not heard this one since 1968 !! Typed it in in the ' Search ' box as a lark, hoping someone had uploaded audio from their old 45 . I was stunned ( and very pleased ) that there was actually Video of this band performing the song. How Great !! -- Yeah, and like most everyone else posting comments , I heard this one on Seattle's KJR radio. Program director Pat O'Day must have liked the song to give it the prominent airplay that it had. Thank You very much for this posting !
My gosh, I can't believe I finally found this. People thought I was nuts and the song was a figment of my imagination. One of those songs of my youth i just never could forget. Thanmks...
Finally! Been looking for this for a loooonnnng time. Few people seem to remember it, but it was my favorite song 'wayyy back when. Lots of Seattlites here, me too, but I was more a KOL fan than KJR. >8^)
@carylecamacho WOW! I'm amazed this video is out there. I bought tons of sunshine pop reissues over the past few years, but none compared to "October Country"; better songs, better singing, and incredibly innovative arrangements. It's a privilege to see this! Caryle---THANK YOU!!!
Hi, Caryle, Yes still in the nw. I look forward to seeing the photos and hearing the songs you intend to post. I will let you know what I think as requested. Yes I am a singer, are we not all singers? Best to ya, Obf
This song has been rolling around in my head for a long time. I have asked people many times if they remember it. I've googled it for 10 years with no results. This is the first time I've heard it since the 60's. Listened to it on KJR Seattle back then also KBRC Mt. Vernon Washington. I am laughing as I had it memorized still from start to finish, even the odd bridge. Thanks for posting,,
Another fan of this song who listened to it on an 8 transistor radio with a 1 1/2" speaker. I found it somewhat haunting and sentimental. I was in high school at the time in the Seattle area and its title pops into my head from time to time. So, I searched it out today and here we are. I was always more of a thoughtful guy than an active one, and this song appealed to that aspect of my personality.
I always remembered this song, and argued with people over the years about whether it was really a song or not since no one seemed to remember it except me. I am so glad I found this...... this song has stayed with me all these years. It reminds me of my home in Cali and all my friends back then.
Hey ... This a note from caryle, the girl singer of October Country. It's very interesting to read all your comments. What a wild whacky world it was back then We did concerts with Buffalo Springfield, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, The Standells, Arthur Lee and Love, Skye Saxon and The Seeds, Linda Rondstat, and one night with Hendrx.
I am curious as to what all of you posters are doing these days. BTW Joe was a lead singer not back up as The Elzer mentions
In 1967 I went to my first concert and saw October Country, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap and the headliners, Buffalo Springfield. Cal Poly, Pomona. $2.75 a ticket!
Loved October Country, never forgot them. This is the first time I have heard the song since 1967.
Over the years I've asked a few people if they remembered a song called October Country, they would say "who sang it? I would answer I don't know, October Country, you've never heard of it. I never knew I was saying the name of the group...lmao. Thanks for posting this, so I could find it.
I love this song and group, never expected to see a live performance, they're incredible. I found this 45 record in 1984 it's on Epic, and had heard it in 1968 as a little boy.
O.K. I wait. There are only two thousand of us in the whole wide world that even know about this, so I will happily wait, patiently, for anyone else in the universe to hit this sight and endeavour to make any kind of comment at all. In the meantime, I will wax nostalgic on the rush of good feeling I remember upon first hearing this song as I traveled, alone, through the crystal clear starry skies of the western U.S. plains and deserts on my way to spectacular adventure in Nevada and California.
@Squigelum Dear Squig: This Caryle. the female lead singer of October Country.
I believe the whole album can be bought on Ebay. Or thru Google. Just put "purchase October Country album". I have a copy which includes some mono mixes of two singles. And of course all the tunes on the original album. Write me and let me know when you get your hands on a copy. Are you a musician?
Best Regards,
Caryle De Fransa

Whenever anyone asks what my favourite song in the whole wide world is, I reply: "You've never heard of it. It's a song called October Country by a group called October Country." They roll their eyes--never heard of it--conversation over! My only copy is a completely worn-out original 45. Does anyone know where I might obtain a good-sounding version on modern media? Any details on this 1972 Nuggets CD/cassette would also be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance. I will wait patiently.
@Squigelum Have you tried looking for it on Rhapsody.com or Amazon.com or possibly any MP3 website? You would probably find it in stereo quality. I love this song as well. I discovered them this year. What a delight!
@Squigelum Hey I dont know if I can help but would you be intersted in an original 1968 october country lp? I just picked it up yesterday and I dont know if I'm ready to part with it but if I was would you be intersted in buying it? the record is VG and the cover is also VG maybe we could work out a trade or somthing
Wow, This is my Brother and Sister's Band. Carol singing lead and Joe singing back up. Chet McCracken is on Drums, he played with the Doobie Brothers for years, On Bass is Bruce Wayne and Guitar is the late Marty Arsinault.,. Don't remember this keyboard player. Looks like the Gazzarri's on the Sunset Strip. I was 17 when this was recorded.Yeah for the 60's.
