Wow.....Homer Fitterling had a farm in South Bend ,In. with a Museum on route 2...by Bendix woods park...used to go by it back in the 70`s ,but never got to stop........all was sold at Auctions......Farm is still there though.......
those cars had 4 valve DOHC heads on them, americans are still strogling with 2 valve engines. the best solution to an anctient design engine that GM always applies is to put a super or turbo on them. the so called newly designed american cars just have a new skin on 1910's technology.isnt that glorious?
What would prevent a billionaire from buying the Cord,Auburn,Duesenberg name and title in order to produce modern exotic cars much in the way the modern Bugatti company did?
Dueseys were way ahead of their time. They simply exude class.
If you like Duesenbergs, visit the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Museum in Auburn, Indiana. It is in the old Auburn building. They have the largest collections of all three makers. Right next to it is the NATMUS museum in the old Cord building. About 90 minutes away is South Bend and the Studebaker National Museum where you can find tons of Studes, some Packards, presidential carriages as well as some other interesting things.
@HeadTater Yes, its awesome. I've been there 3 Summers in a row. I would rate it as one of the nations leading museums...and first among Auto Museums.
what really sucks is no two are the same. i watched a video on top gear about one and i have to say it blew all of jays away beautiful 4 door. solid gold trim on the front. solid silver door handles and everything inside. dials, knobs etc. red silk lining, black silk on the doors and roof. so it was more black silk with red silk strips front to back. she was painted black. four lights in the front. man it was just a WOW car. i never liked the roadsters. but i want that gold/silver trimmed car
This collection is unique. He is a real collector and not like many others to say they are but speculate with these masterpieces of automobile art. It is a great video and I agree with packardtwelve
Thank you for your comment and for subscribing.....I will be adding more vids soon! Stay tuned. Design is so robotic nowdays....its maybe better that Duesenberg ended then rather than to be diluted by the radical cheapend designs and standards of later years. Deusenberg and Packards (from the 30's)have the last laugh in my book...they've remained ever timeless and forever young and beautiful...something humans cannot do.
where i live, their is this garage that fixes up classic cars. the ones i really fell in love with are the 30's packards. those cars beat the shit outta a mercedes in style anyday
Because these vehicles were designed by men who truly knew and loved cars. Nowadays, it's all about weight reduction, fuel economy and safety. Run a 29 model J past the government suits and they'd probably condemn it out of hand. Just the pointy hood ornament alone would never pass muster. We've lost our nuts. But don't despair. The wheel always turns.
At least now these cars are rare and special without all the problems that would be present if huge extravagant cars like these were built in mass production.
Please. The 1930's were a totally different era. Fuel was cheap and the really rich could afford to drive really rare cars like Duesenberg and Bugatti.
Today things have changed. For the better no doubt. Modern cars are far safer and efficient. No disrespect to Duesenberg who were without peer back then, well save for Bugatti perhaps.
Or you can live in the past and think everything was better then.
@McLarenMercedes actually the fuel was quite expensive if you adjust for inflation and if you want a fuel efficient car try an American Austin that got 40mpg. I'll stick with cars were better in the past at least they had character and were not just a bunch of washingmachines on wheels.
jAY MAKE A SERIES OF SHOWS DISPLAYING ALL OF YOUR CARS! IT WOULD BE GREAT TO SEE AWSOM AUTOMOBILES IN YOUR SHOW, SPECIALLY FOR THIS COMING SUMMER
