Guara means in Tupi-Guarani "blond hair or the color of the sun."
It really does not look like a wolf because it is slim, not to be aggressive and have a very despecializada diet of small rodents.
But it is undoubtedly a beautiful animal that we hope will be preserved because their habitat is being invaded by the monoculture of soybeans and there is also the danger of fires.
Yeah I agree with the below comments. The maned wolf should not even be considered a wolf at all. They neither form a pack nor mate for life and are not closely related to any of the northern canines. Chrysocyon brachyurus are a whole unrelated specie. The only animals closely related to wolves are the canis animals such as the coyotes, jackals, dingoes, dholes, and domestic dogs.

Thats what I told you, Chrysocyon Brachyurus, theres no Canis, so they have different number of chromosomes in there DNA, so they are "incompatiable", they cant breed, not to mention that they would rather kill each other as Canids have a tendency to kill any kind of concurance---
They are not, as there Latin name tells you that they are a total separate species. There origins are unknown. Some plausable research says that there ancestors were might be east american wolves, migrated to south america, but still its not been accepted theory.

Their place as a species reminds me of the Hyena, which is also not related to the wolf at all yet still many people think they are. :3
