  • Does Baji do circle walking too? I've been interested in Bagua lately...and these seem pretty similar to my untrained eyes. What's the difference between Bajiquan and Baguazhang?

  • @alexdhamp Just about everything :), LYQ practiced Bagua aswell so they were probably doing some 'free form' sparring, while Bagua relies heavily on flowing footwork and whiping motion Baji movements "explode". The footwork is somewhat static like Xing Yi however the secrets to its fearsome power lies in the charging step (where you hear a loud bang), it is not a stamp in itself but it is merely the feet/legs following throughthe movements of your hips turning.

  • 跟老外还是外行解释个毛线阿。这么喜欢看热闹练跆拳去,练得就是花拳绣腿。

  • People, have you ever learnt a true skill from a real master ? It feels like if you were going to die, because those are skills to kill someone, you will feel true danger and want to fight back or cover yourselves. Now that's a secret technique.

  • In my opinion, I think the Baji that been taught to the public is like, if as a fruit, it's only the skin (haha sorry, my english is bad). Because the A true master like Master Liu wouldn't teach the deadly skill to just anyone. He will choose the right student to teach the real secret of Baji and Pigua. It's not like, if you have money, you pay, and He'll teach you everything.

  • @emanresu81 Then Baji is doomed. I can learn excellent karate or jujutsu in any one of hundreds of schools around the world. I will then learn from others who have learned in those schools- we will meet, share our ideas, and collectively develop our art to unseen heights. Meanwhile, those scattered few who have a knowledge of 'true' Baji will train alone, reminisce on the glory days of Li Shu Wen, and wonder why there are no modern masters to match him.

Chinese martial arts must adapt or die.

  • @ooogooman maybe is because of lazyness. When people find out that learning Baji is actually hard work they seem to loose interest. Anyone is welcome to train in our club, but there's no point in learning anyone Baji before they at least have proper structure in their stances, and that usually takes 2-3 years. with 40 min stances at least every training. If you just start training everyone before they have that structure its just gonna become "Mc-dojo" where nobody learns anything properly.

  • @codexdelux You can't call a reluctance to engage in three years of stance training before your system even *begins* to be martially practical 'laziness' when there are martial systems that take considerably shorter periods not merely to teach people something martially useful but to turn people into formidable fighters. That's just being rational. There are better ways than static stance training to achieve the benefits it gives you, and a modern baji school must adopt them.

  • @ooogooman you misunderstand me i think. You should learn simpler stuff before baji so your structure is good. so 40 min of stance every training (if your stance is static your doing it wrong;) ) but in the meantime you also train tanglang (mantis), long fist and tai chi quan. The problem with baji has been that it tried to adopt, taught baji First and no one understood anything properly. its a very good system that craves dedication, if one does'nt have that then sure train something else:)

  • @ooogooman also:) the baji stance training is pretty different from any i've had in Karate or tae kwon do. its not static at all. your always trying to sink lower working your leg muscles. maintaining proper structure in your whole body, let your tailbone sink, lower the shoulders etc.. etc... so its not static. And then theres usually mantis step training afterwards, which is as unstatic as it gets:) 250 word count seems to leave enough out for misunderstandings every time i write:P

  • @codexdelux Aaaaah. I see. Yes, I hadn't understood that your school has a curriculum that teaches other martial systems before baji- that's among the few legitimate reasons for it to take that long.

  • @ooogooman Its often better to think of baji as the kata's you start learning when you reach a black belt in karate. To devote a school to only those without thoroughly learning the basics first would be senseless and a waste for the students:) the other systems like mantis are still heavily influenced by the baji though, we often get comments about baji stomping in our mantis forms and such:P

  • @codexdelux That may be the approach of your school- and a legitimate one- but are you contending that that is the *only* functional way to approach baji? That no school that teaches baji and nothing but baji from Day 1 can be successful?

  • Doesn´t work in reality only good for body control and stuff like this

  • @bm2332 works with slims chiness people

  • @bm2332 Not remotely true. There are records of Baji masters who killed people in fights on more than one occasion. He's playing nice with them and not trying to hurt, but trying to teach.

  • @woodwalk fuck off. I am a jiu-jitsu purple belt. these guys have NOTHING on me when it comes to grappling and takedowns. get the fuck outta here.

  • @BadAssBlackOverlord oh yeah and arm bar totally works when people are trying to grab your balls

  • @XD4133 Grabbing balls?! ROFLMAO! Before they grab ANYTHING they will have a broken arm GUARANTEED! HAVE YOU SEEN AN ARMBAR BEFORE?! Uh NO YOU HAVENT! Or you wouldn't say that shit.

  • @BadAssBlackOverlord He's killed people in real fights, have you ever killed someone with your own fists ? Someone who's at your same level of fighing knowledge, trying to kill you too ?

  • @shengxlong I am sorry but I have to respectfully disagree. You cannot kill someone with traditional arts such as these. No. I won't stupidly try to punch them in "slow motion" just so they can counter. I know some boxing and I am well versed in Jiu Jitsu. These guys will not win. Impossible.

  • @BadAssBlackOverlord Li Shu Wen his teacher killed every person he fought and never lost he was famous for it, real Bajiquan is pretty vicious

  • @BadAssBlackOverlord Tell that to Li Shu Wen

He said and quote "I never had the feeling to hit a man twice." meaning he killed in one shot. Also it won't be slow motion, trust me. Fights come and go in an instant I'm sure you know that.

  • 幹嘛做一些防礙觀賞的視學效果?

  • Although it's nice to see masters like this, the videos don't really do justice to their skills. To really appreciate them, i think you need to experience it first hand. Also has we all get older our power starts to decrease. It doesn't matter who you are, or what style you do. We are only Human!!!

  • Baji quan, not nice to watch, not nice to fight.

  • frank if you don't like real martial arts and only type down rasistical comments why do you even bother watching this video?

  • This master assassinated many Japanese officers during WWII... don't you doubt his masterhood!

  • Why didn't the film makers make movie about Li Shu Wen?

There's movie about Wong Fei Hung, Hou Yuanjia, and the latest was Ip Man.

I guess it's gonna be great to make a story about Master Li.

  • 如果有人願意拍一部八極拳的電影 相信也會引起一波熱潮

  • how disrespectful Flanka , martial arts is much more than a sport, which is relegated to those who choose to view it as sport. let me take a guess, youre a mma or something or other type guy right? Apples and oranges, to disregard a master is to disregard the gifts of not being a fool.

  • @DONNIMETROPOLIS313 hide behind, LOL thats funny, keep on living and searching, perhaps finding the truth might loosen your front teeth

  • 劉老 讓八極拳的精隨能在台灣傳承下來的人物

  • using training speed to his moves just make it slow (even with slow mo cam)

  • great one...

  • Ba Ji reminds me of mizong/ Aiki jui jutsu/ and a mixture of hsing-i and tai chi. this style/ specific form is very impressive. for those who have been able to stir the chi with the fluidity of movement- while finding the hardness in the softness- watching this form is easy to see its value. the coordination shown here has a lot of power to be found. - thanks for the post, beautiful

  • Please, if you don't have knowledge about kung-fu and mainly about master Liu Yun Qiao history and the consequences of his work in kung-fu world, don't comment disrespectfully. Thank you to those who show respect.

  • @romoves this is shit, i will not blindly parody ass kissing because some ole windbay is called grand master. Neighter the students nor the old guy had any real fught experience that was obviously to those of us with pro experience

  • @flancka Friend ! The old masters have gone thru many challenges and won & they didn't get their fame in vain. They had their real fighting experience and were pro's of their days. It's sometimes very hard to compare the present pro experience with the then pro. Let's accept various styles and various practitioners ! No offence !

  • @washingzoo1

    sure!

  • @flancka you should read the master's history, not only he's a super spy during his youth, he fight and kills on a daily basis. And he survives the war. It couldnt get any nastier than that.

Any guys you've killed so far? Any life or death battle/fight you've done so far?

  • @flancka wow you arrogant little mma worshipping garbage, you uneducated fucking piece of shit. So obvious you have no idea what real fighting is you keyboard warrior. The man before you fought and killed in war, and was trained by a man who was legend in a time when good martial arts were life and death. Shut your damned mouth you stupid fool. Many have tried to be nice about this but I say in full disrespect, you are completely without intellect or value. No one real would train you. Ever.

  • @flancka

so you're a pro when you fight with points for hitting someone? xD

lmfao you don't know anything about real martial arts C:

  • Comment removed

  • @flancka this old man was Asia 007, actually was 001 in army when he was younger. And a champ through many fights. Some master think they were pro like u challenged BAJI and died, thats why BAJI is so popular in Asia.

  • such power behind these moves.

  • excellent

  • I'm reading a japanese comic called "Kenji". Simple name but what is interesting about this comic is that it talks about bajiquan and the history or wushu.

On the second book, there's a part where the granpa of the kid, he tells him a story of a Xingyi warrior on how he trained while his master was gone. So, the student kept doing one simple movement for about a year later, when the master came back; that simple punch was explosive and powerful.

So, he told kenji to do the same with baji.

  • It's hard to find that manga nowadays! It is really realistic, I love it

  • i read kenji comics also, and i really love it.

Later on the book, he met a bajiquan master named Liu Gekkyu.

Did you know that Liu Gekkyu in kenji comic, is the same man as Liu Yun Qiao in this video ?

  • yes. it is the same man

  • did u read it translated? because I cant find the newer chapters. I wonder who is stronger, Li Shu Wen or Liu Yun Qiao xD

  • Li Shu Wen is Liu Yun Qiao's master..Liu Yun Qiao is his last student

  • Wuh rly? I woner if Li Shu Wen was as violent as they say he is.

  • The Palace Guards in Taiwan (whom GM Liu trained) called him "The Old Taoist" because he seemed to have magical powers in combat.

  • 他開玩笑的吧。。。

  • Wushu means war art, not modern dance. It is still a war art not a bunch of glorified moves.

I would say it's China's fault for your blindness, but I believe they intend it that way.

For those that see a bunch of high flying kicks, and have no idea why we place so much attention on strong basic foundation are not really war artist (wushu players) and has missed the point. Just like China wants you to.

  • Wushu survived battle fields not regulated ring matches as you see to day. I am sure on a battle field were your life is on the line you would throw more than one punch and not extend yourself as much. So many demos you see are just showing small parts of the art form and not the whole thing.

None of you new MMA peolpe can do a whole flowery wushu form. Most of you will not be able to do the training it takes to make your boby do the things we do.

I and I can fight not that sloppy MMA shit.

  • once i told my mother to throw me hits and it was impossible to grab her punches, and for this grand master in the vidio it will be impossible to grab anyones arm really trying to hit and not just throwing a punch to the air and w8ting his master to do his move

  • It's extremely hard to grab a punch, and it ends up being a matter of whether or not the way the punch was thrown allows it to be grabbed. That said, if one's timing and speed is good enough, it is feasible as long as one manages to exit the line of attack and grab hold of the arm before the enemy can retract it. Such a move, however, requires a very dedicated, hard training. Once it becomes an adquired skill, though... Many possibilities open from there.

  • Comment removed

  • wushu didnt survive any battlefields.

Wushu is a modern dancing art.

  • @peedubb80 ur right at some points...but u fail in just one little thing.....THIS IS NOT WUSHU....OK plz, wake up, wushu is kung fu with gymnastics on it, this is ONLY REAL KUNG FU...plz calling this art Wushu is a complete disgrace such as wushu itself...I practice Kung Fu, real one, Baji also, and wushu is nothing but SHIT...

  • @peedubb80 However ur right about MMA bitches who think real fights and real fighting exp is only about a gard stance full of openings, attacking with ur eyes closed and give ur back to ur oponent while defending....wich is real stupid and only shoes lack of POWER, DETERMINATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILL

  • They are hitting in a totally wierd range, this is not reality based.

They would have kicked some first, then come close in for hitting and then grapling.

Do defence against that. BTW, punchers snap their hands back within a 1/10 og a sec if they are pros.

  • 这种看似简单的古拳法个人认为实战型比花哨的现代拳术要高很多,都是打要害,避实击虚

  • great legend................

  • liu gekyu! he is trainer for taiwan army. acording to the comic book, he is the last student of the gratest bajiquan master lie sio bun (every name here speled by japanese kanji like lie yun chiao spelled liu gekyu). he's master developed bajiquan to become one of most powerful kung fu in china, beside shin yi ha (secret kung fu in shaolin), taichi cuan, shin yi liu hei quan (six of will), koka, kei, hiso, 72 the art of shaolin,ja (snakes), etc.

  • By comic, do you mean the manga named "Kenji"? I have heard good things about it.

I've also heard good things about baji. I really like what I saw in the video, it looks old. In old fighting styles, the premise was to survive in a fight, as this video shows. I'm not sure what happened when the four grapplers fell down, but the movements where you can see what happens were a joy to watch.

  • @Endoperez it's a real good manga and I recomend it! It has real good content not only about Baji but also Xing YI, Bagua and more

  • @tranglomango Im going to a school in Kun Yu Shan to practice both baji og xing yi.

    Great styles!

  • 我認最後一個以一擋四的技巧是最高境界?是嗎?

    反而是最難的~看似簡單......

  • Train in Chengdu 8 135-3379

  • I'm pretty disappointed with this video. They all attacked with the same right punch and we're not even punching to hit - punches ended before they could even do damage. They were circling, but always attached in the direction he was facing - one at a time. So difficult to find any videos of random/unscipted attack-defense scenarios. Maybe I'm asking too much.

  • No you are not asking too much. In reality, wushu isnt a realistic form of fighting techniques. The way they practice is just too old. Their concept is still stuck in thousand years ago I mean, who attacks your opponent with one punch with the arm all the way extended, and legs in Gong Bu. Ive trained in many different forms of martial arts. Muay Thai / Kickboxing is the best striking technique, I must say.

  • There ARE videos of wushu practitioners doing sparring. They either look totally clueless or else employ the same tactics as any other competition striking art--dancing around a lot, rapid punch/kick combinations, kicking at the legs, etc. For sheer sparring effectiveness, nothing beats Kyokushin karate, IMO. But it, too, falls short whenever grappling is allowed. It's been proven time and again that the winning formula is a mix of boxing, very limited (low) kicking and jujutsu-style wrestling.

  • anyone knows in taiwan, where exactly can I find a real school that teaches the real ba ji quan for combat and self defence?

  • Yeah, it's called the Wu Tan Martial Arts Development Center in Taiwan, look it up on google. You can also learn it in America if you find the right teacher

  • sorry but even regardless of the fact that you have no idea what you´re talking about,taylorin666,you can´t even write the word"gay"!

  • i agree with taylorin666 being a dick but when people spell gay "GHEY" its more of a culture thing.

  • thanks,i´ll keep it in mind.german schools don´t teach slang

  • うそくせ

  • sin duda uno de los mejores y mas grandes maestros de kung fu tradicional que han existido

  • Master Liu, the best there was (except his master LiShuwen) I understand that Master Liu served his government during WW2 and killed using his martial arts.

  • That he did. Master Liu too.

  • TRUE POWER!

  • these are deathly teachnique, and focus on the hit and force...trong enough to kill person...

  • i do tai chi. whats the difference? anybody know? they both look internal and quite similar

  • Tai Chi and Ba Ji Quan are both internal styles concentrating on building chi, and concentrating controled force. The biggest difference i've noticed between the 2 (besides the obvious techniques) is that ba ji trains explosive strikes and stomping, while tai chi's strikes are slow and precise. if that makes any sense.

  • baji is a formation of bagua and xingyiquan.

  • no... baji is not a formation of bagua and xingyi..

baji is strong one, others are smooth..

  • no, xingi is just as strong and linear as baji.

  • ho, maybe i misunderstood~

  • GOOD LORD THE POWER!!! 0:43-0:53....

ba ji quan's sliding horse stepping...

    Master Liu had amazing power!!!

  • He was being nice and not killing them...just pushin' them around...

  • I know pretty much nothing about Bajiquan, but the students looked very mcuh like they were circle walking from Baguzhang...what is the relationship between the two styles?

  • Master Liu did learn Baguazhang

  • 5 elemente chi kung

  • why don't they all attack him at once

  • Oh how clever of you! You're like, totally the first person to ever say something like that! Pat yourself on the back and give yourself a gold star, kiddo, ya earned it!

  • meant no disrespect and I know it's only a demo but if you are engaged with 4 opponents, and tied up with one the other three are not just going to stand there circling.

  • god, that chuansheng guy keeps posting quotes straight off of wikipedia -_-

  • It is Wu Dang (武当).

  • great to see wu-tang get some recognition. editing is terrible in this though..

  • Bajiquan was in brought to popular attention in the west largely by the Sega video game Virtua Fighter, as the style that the main character Akira Yuki practices, though none of the many representations of Bajiquan in popular media has ever been very accurate.

Other video game characters that use this style are Kokoro from the Dead or Alive series and Xiuying Hong from the Shenmue video game series.

  • lol the last bit looks like a street fighter combo...

no offense to master liu though. he's really really great

  • Bajiquan were chosen to serve as bodyguards to the Chinese Emperors. Most where students of Li Shuwen. Such as Huo Diange bodyguard to Pu Yi (the last emperor of China), Li Chenwu bodyguard to Mao Zedong and Liu Yunqiao secret agent for the Kuomintang and instructor of the bodyguards of Chiang Kai-Shek. As a result Bajiquan became known as the 'Bodyguard' style

  • Liu Yunqiao secret agent for the Kuomintang and instructor of the bodyguards of Chiang Kai-Shek. As a result Bajiquan became known as the 'Bodyguard' style

  • Baji Quan was the china royal guard's martial art in chin dynasty

Master Liu was a special task in WW2 like 007

He's mission was assassin japan important figure and rescure hostage.

  • LOL. I just realized why the guys are getting their butts kicked. Their leg stance is too firm and wide. A little swoop and London Bridge goes falling down.

  • you're kind of an idiot aren't you?

  • have you play virtual fighter before. the guys look like ryuo uses BAJI quan

  • What does Akira use?

  • Baji Quan

  • ba ji is not like tai chi at all

  • Well, it' doesn't look like it, but it uses the same spiralling energy that starts at the Tan-Tien, goes to the legs and back up into the striking arm/shoulder, elbow, hip... whatever. And I'm not talking about Yang-style Taiji --- I'm talking about the original combative-style, Chen-style taiji, which is low, fast and more powerful/violent looking.

  • There is baji-sparring -- it's called baji-push-hands, like Taiji (Tai Chi) push hands. You do it to get a sensitivity for close-combat energy.

There's also Baji lance sparring -- you use 10' lances, which is a great excersise for issuingpower.

  • Cool, I didn't know Baji Quan also has its own push hands. Thanks for the info!

  • is there any vid of baji sparring?

  • just gotta hate the slow mo

  • i started baji training and i know how much power he used to make the man fall. It is remarkable.

  • Although its only a demonstration, the distance the men fall is remarkable considering GM Liu's size and he was probably in his 70s when this was filmed.

  • This man was probably the best modern day Chinese martial arts master. You only need to look at the number of followers he has across the world.

  • it's nice to finally see grandmaster liu in motion.

    Sean

  • you COULD spar with elbowcaps and those tkd things they use like paddings for the body and a helmet and gloves

  • this in like super super super low motion, whats the point if you can't tell a thing

  • No, not really. I know that once you've gone through the traditional training involved, it becomes alot more than mere dance steps.

  • You have to spar with baji, if you dont you will never learn how to use baji, it would just become forms dancing

  • Something's either unique or not; it can't be very unique. Anyhow, very nice demo!

  • This is not sparring. You cant spar with Baji. Sparring with it would only result in injury or death. This is just a demonstration.

  • too bad about the slow-mo and double vision effect. Otherwise it'd've been a good archive video.

  • very unique demonstration - especially the end bits. thank you

  • GREAT THANKS!!!

  • cool,

I have always wonder if master Liu Sparr with his students. Any clips on free sparring? thanks for posting
