  • i appreciate everything all of you old heads did but i was in the band with Doug and has always been around to help out this new staff but im so tired of hearing these excuses and talkin bout next year all thats dead yal need to start coming out to support and stop talkin shit about what these kids are tryin to do

  • man all this im reading is bs man because we have done alumni events with Doug being there and none of you came ut its always the same people coming out to support. This was a great way to change the out look on the DC Music programs but of course everybody found an excuse not to show up. (this is an Eastern Alumni)

  • @TheJjswagg All I can say is WOW!!! Hopefully next time...

  • but hey yall Enough witth the Back & forth, Im glad EHS DIDNT bring Doug era alumni to the event, atleast i get to hear what EHS will sound like Next year, THe band is the youngest in the City.

  • sorry for the typos using me phone

  • type 2001 eastern cold hearted. that wasnt even the whole and a bad recording. just a reminder or what was

  • when jr high school wouldve gave yall the business. shaw that is when i was there. ballou is doing great things now but dont ever say we ducked wreck because that didnt happen. it was nothing to duck yall wa tryna get where we were.

  • ballou program just started to come around in 2004 the last 20 years before that was garbage and that real talk. imma true band head and u can ask anyone from the city that knew anything about bands thay would tell u all the great. cardozo in the late 70's and early 80's us throughtout the 80's 90s minus 1996 a off year then when doug took over 1998 until 2002. even HD Woodson had nive band in the late 80's but I bet u wont hear anyone nothing about ballou

  • 2000 yall decide to show up but duck us at hu battle of the bands so we had to battle everyone else. yall came to eastern for a night game that year got punished in the game and by the band. saw yall again in winchester I dont even need to remind about what happened there yall wouldve did better battling crossland that day. they got delt with too that day. we came to ballou for the playoff and cranked yall stadium. so like i said when i was there we never ducked wreck

  • when didn't we eastern never show up for one on battles? this had to be after ileft because if remember correctly it was yall that didnt show up on a number of occasion . i marched from 1998 -2001. we saw yall 98 AAA in the alley (got it on tape) punished yall , did mlk that year yall was scared. 1999 yall was no way to be found. monster year for us had alotta sound. all these years by the way we did HU battle of the bands. where were yall?

  • @andrae20 maybe I missed something, are you under the impression that I marched for Ballou? And even if I did I was out of school almost 10 years before you started marching, so Eastern never chased us anywhere and there's no point in us going back and forth when our tenures have such a huge gap.

  • @GVocalz3 so what school did u march for then? u might have me by 10 years but i know my history. Ive been a bandhead since forever. I seen both sides. I lived a block away from ballou for 12 years. I went to simon and hart before moving uptown and going to shaw. Shaw is where I fell in love with marching band. I marched with half the great muscians that marched in the city at howard. Everyone know who ran the city when I was in school. but let just see what happens next year

  • @andrae20 crossland hs c/o 2002

  • @andrae20 I marched at Anacostia from '85-90 and I've also been a bandhead since forever, I grew up 4 blocks from Anacostia and payed attention to each and every band in the DMV. I marched for Ana and made DM while I was AT KRAMER taking classes at both schools - so I KNOW my music. My apologies for taking so long to respond

  • Mr Watson (dooney) know he dont want that old eball to come

Yall never had a agressive back.sound until we brought that to the city. But

every great empire falls at one point.

  • @andrae20 One other thing... No one - I repeat, NO ONE can take away what Eastern's band represented at their best! You all represented DC in a fine fashion. But there were bands who watched you get the praise that wasn't always due to you when it came to battling - mainly because you never showed up for 1 on 1 battles, THAT'S how a true champion is recognized! Several 1 on 1 battles would've been lost by Eastern on the field or the stands by these smaller bands - REAL talk!

  • No excuses. We honestly didnt no about it until last min. Ballou did do

there thing but it wasnt a good representation on eastern part. We both

know eastern tradition runs much deeper than ballou who has had recent

success. So with that being said we'll see what happens next year. We

should do it twice a year like all the other alumni bands do across the

    country.

  • @andrae20 You're right, Eastern's tradition (as far as size) DOES run deeper than Ballou's band. But you also have to understand that so many bands in DCIAA had success & did just as much with less - especially when we stepped to Eastern - that size had nothing to do with it, we had PRIDE on the line and y'all did a lot of sleeping. As far as having an aggressive Black sound in the city, have you ever heard of a band called "Cardozo"? THIS is where it all started - NOT with Eastern.

  • @GVocalz3 Cardozo didnt last long, from my knowledge, from the late 80's to 2001 Eastern was Top. with a Close fight for 2nd with Dozo and HD Woodson.. There was Shaw to but hey they are middle school kids.. in the Early 90's Ballou was the lil band with Pride... Thiers video of Ballou in 92 or 94 on here.

  • @TomazHilton Cardozo ran DC from the 70's to the late 80's, they're the ONLY band outside of Shaw in DC that could consistently boast a 10-man front WITH a sound to match their size and the talent to play whatever they wanted. My uncle marched with them and played Sousaphone and I remember them playing "The Boss"... LAWD I wish I could find THAT tape!

  • Lls...Thats right...My Dames look CuntDown!!!

  • nah way more than that. we didnt find out about it until late plus doug wasnt apart of it so alot of alumni didnt wanna do it. next year we goin have boyd era, doug era plus the young bucks. if it would been just doug era we wouldve shut there lil weak stuff down. but im glad watson got his program sharp now. next year we goin take him down memory lane. expect nothing less than 120 and blowing. imma make it my personal mission lol

  • @andrae20 It amazes me that after all these years the folk from the blue & white still making excuses, LOL!!! Ballou did their THANG! Eastern represented but let's be honest, if this represents alumni pride next year's outcome will be the same no matter who directs!

  • @GVocalz3 Most of Easterns Band at the Event was actually Current Students, Most of Ballous band was Alumn. i mean come on at HU parade this year they had only 4 Tbones, 1 mello, 4 Trumpets and like 2 Tubas with fewer woodwinds..

  • @TomazHilton I'm aware of that, but pride is PRIDE! If you put a call out to your alumni for an all-out brawl against a rival band regardless of WHO the director is, you show up if you're able! Now if the same call goes out next year you have to remember that even IF Boyd and Doug get involved, Ballou still got alumni that DIDN'T show up and would be licking their chops at a chance to get at Eastern... It should make for an awesome show!

  • @GVocalz3 yea i know, you could say the same about Eastern, They were missing a RACK of alumni when they went down to ATL's Jamboree.

  • @TomazHilton Oh, and Ballou managed to not only get out a full sound with the band they had, they won 2nd place in the battle. I'm proud of the fact that there is still pride in the DCIAA bands because I'm a product of it, I want to SEE our schools get back to where they use to be - when the AAA parade went on almost all day and we battled before AND after the parade. I even remember Dunbar had a decent band

  • @GVocalz3 yea Ballou sounded good at HUHC parade, sounded like the 03 edition of ballou, no holding back, trumpets playing out like they supose to. They were the only band with a sound that was together. EHS had a excuse, Cardozo and others doesnt

  • @GVocalz3 O yea i do have a clip of Dunbar on here from i think 93 or 99

  • @GVocalz3 got to disagree with the alumni pride part. Taking nothing away from Ballou, they were on point. They rep DC in ways Eastern didn't. (Pasadena, Ellen show etc)... and this is coming from a Eastern alumni. But as far as the alumni pride goes, a lot of us wanted to play under the direction of Doug for a lot of different reasons. (in house reasons, not airing out our laundry) That's like asking the 97 bulls to come back and make another Championship run and Phil Jackson is not coaching!!

  • @fundz1218 I hear that and understand as well, in-house bickering will definitely destroy the unity from one era to another. But at some point I would LOVE to see the alumni from Eastern show up and assist in the growth of the current band as well as get the old-heads together just ONE MORE TIME (heck, bring Sands back if that's what it takes) and body rock just for old times sake either in this setting or at homecoming... Truth be told that was one of MAIN things missing from this battle!

  • this is what happens you dont include Doug. But I bet next year it will be different

  • @andrae20 Missing 4 Mellos, probably 3 Bones and about 7 Tubas butIm Kinda glad Eastern didnt bring all they alumni.. it gives me a clear look into the future of Eball..But Eball was Tiny from the other video i saw from up Top!.

  • @TomazHilton i got the winchester tape from 2001 if u want it so i u can quite these down that said we ducked one on on

  • @andrae20 I also have the Winchester Parade 2001 but both bands sounded a Mess iin the footage.. It was Largo Vs eastern then came Ballou. Eastern sounded the best out of the bunch
