Hi, i bought my EEEPC 900 three years ago, and its still working. But now, I got a problem with my speaker. There are times that its sound is very low that you cant barely hear and sometimes, you cant hear anyything... my QUESTION is, IS IT POSSIBLE THAT A VIRUS AFFECTS THE AUDIO of my EEEPC? im satisfied with it and using it for 3 yrs now,,, its just that i got problem with the audio... anyone can help me? thanks in advance
its supposed to mean "easy to use, easy to learn, easy to play" or something along the lines of that. i don't really see how pronouncing the letter "e" with a little bit of length is difficult. you don't say it like "e-e-e-p-c" you say it like "ee-pc"
a clone...woman please! and i suppose that a mustang is a clone of the corvette if i follow your logic? personally, i think openoffice is much better than ms office. same (sometimes moE) feature than the microsoft product and it's free =)
and she bounces that laptop up and dow as if it was a toy
-i really hate people which are reviewing things about which they have no idea and then spitting on everything their little minds are not used to as is opensource software (people still can't understand why would anyone give anything away for free)
Bouncing it around is not going to do anything. Its a netbook, they're designed to be bounced around a bit.
I hate people who post as if they know a thing or two about what they are talking about.
Linux IS easy, obviously you have never used an easy distro, not to mention the one that comes bundled with these is terribly easy to use. Its point and click for crying out loud.
bouncing can cause SMD elements to deattach from the PCB, and this netbook is certainly not desinged to be bounced around.
And i know what i am talking about, trust me i have been repairing laptops, tv's etc..
for a couple of years now.
Linux is not easy to operate(it's true that i never used a distro with a simplified GUI).
I have been using Arch linux for a couple of years now and i know that if you want to completely optimise linux to your needs it takes a lot of time and effort.
If you think bouncing a laptop around in your hand is going to do anything, well, i don't have anything to say to you.
Arch, wow.
Have a look at the distro that comes with it. Linux is easy to operate, get it out of your mind that to use Linux you have to know each and every command. My grandmother could install and use any of the easy Distros, Eg. Ubuntu, openSUSE, Xubuntu, Mint.
bouncing a laptop could cause an HDD failure but since eee has an ssd it's fine but it could still cause problems with your motherboard(deattaching SMD's from PCB) if you do it a lot.
COULD cause a HDD failure, but very unlikely. They are designed to be portable, designed to be put into a bag and taken across the world, do you think having it in your bag and walking down the street will dismount components? That's practically the same thing.
...really? you're actually defending yourself with excuses like components falling off of a pcb? bouncing it isn't going to do anything, especially since its all solid state. its not like its super glued to a jackhammer. obviously if you use arch you're not going to find linux to be easy, its not meant to be easy its meant to be fast and efficient. same with slackware and gentoo, both of which are also known to be difficult to set up
Hey, i got the Asus eee 900 with pre-installed Linux... and i want to install Windows XP, so i've followed a guide, but when i try to reboot or even boot it at all, i can't get to the bios, because it never shows up... it just boots up.. Why is this? i need help asap :D
wanna hear about the new way of listening to music that doesnt involve the use of speakers or headphones?then go to google and type in...'Woody Norris has reinvented acoustics'
asus eee pc comes with linux stuck in easy desktop mode, you can acces advanced desktop with things such as pimpmyeee and when in advanced desktop you can acces the synaptic package manager wich makes it alot easyer to install programs and you can acces a lot of the eee pcs hidden features
thats crap.. in holland a asus eee pc 900 with 20gb costs 350-400 euro.... if anyone is from holland and knows a store where there cheaper then i would like to know :)
I'm seriously thinking about getting an Asus. Need something small and light that I can literally carry in the same hand along with a book(s). I'm mainly going to be using it to learn how to program in java. Don't want to be lugging around a heavy laptop with the brick power supply and this seems Ideal.
Getting windows would cut down on the headaches that I imagine getting used to a new operating system would bring. But on-the- other-hand I think I'd be a fool to ignore linux for much longer as it becomes evermore popular. Besides, I'd also be the fool to miss out on the extra space as well. I can always install windows if I wanted, later, but that would be defeating the purpose. So, Linux it is then...
beginner's programming in linux is a bit more difficult than in windows, (at least for me.)
Compiling Code was a bit of a hassle for me, and I never figured it out in linux, whereas in Windows it was pretty easy.
That may just be me, but that's the way I've always seen it.
As for an optical drive, BlakeVII, I would suggest getting an external one. Another possibility could be (if you happen to have another desktop computer as well), to copy all the software from a CD onto a flash drive.
Since a week ago I've really done some hard researching and watched alot of videos like the one above on youTube. I probably won't be getting the Asus but the Advent 4211 instead.
In the UK the Advent equals if not trumps the spec of the 901 and is almost the same price. The Asus 1000 is not available yet and I don't want to wait around for it. As far as linux is concerned I'm going to have feel comfortable using linux to compile code as I am with windows.
What's with all of you guys at Stuff Magazine shaking around computers like they have no moving parts. I bet you see a lot of bad sectors on your hard drives.
Afraid not, eeepc 900 is using Solid State Drive. Any way modern laptop computer hav anti-shock feature to reduce the chance bad sector appear when shaking.
Some hard disks also have it built in or they autopark the heads when it hasn't had any activity. Samsung drive make an annoying click sound every time they do it.
-.- Ok you obviously are a bit slow, but this is A LOT smaller and cheaper than a Mac book, that is the reason you buy an Asus eee, portability and price. This makes your comment completely useless.

I'm a real novice when it comes to computers so here goes... Could you load up regular software you would buy from a store??
If you could, how would you be able to install it? What about DVD movies?
BlakeVII 3 years ago
Only if it came on usb. The EEEPC doesn't have any optical drives.
rudyiking 3 years ago
Thanks.
You were kind enough to answer my questions but I have a couple more.
No optical drives; so does that mean you're stuck with the pre-installed software???
Does it not have a port to attach an external drive?
BlakeVII 3 years ago
1. No! You can always download software from the internet or from your home network if you setup a drive share.
2. Yes! It comes with a few USB ports that you can hook up a drive if you so wish.
rudyiking 3 years ago
Thanks for that.

BlakeVII 3 years ago
For programming? I don't see why it wouldn't work. Do you plan on getting a Linux flavor or Windows? Both should be good for JAVA.
