How DARE you accuse me of kicking my dog you ridiculous individual! Or is this, as I suspect, a newly signed up for account by one of the darling dog breeders who had nothing with which to reply to me and are lowering themselves to the tactics of sensationalism in a pathetic attempt to discredit me? Secondly. I suggest you re-view the video (and anyone else who sees this comment) and re-assess what it is you're calling a "kick" If after closer examination you still believe my dog was kicked, you are duty bound to report me to the RSPCA for animal cruelty and not just post a sensationalist comment on you tube agreed? I have to agree with doctordrew. Finally someone speaks out! My dog has had issues too. Why have you all jumped on him and accused him of poor training. Makes me think you're all scared hes right. I didnt train my dog wrong and the vet said the same the dogs have legs that are too straight. It means the knee is under stress and this knackers up the ligaments. You all need to read up on this before you bring another dog into the world thats going to suffer.

Doctordrew- Is there any reason for such agression? has this person done something to you? I agree with the previous posts regarding lack of knowledge etc as one of the most common causes for cruciate damage is over exercise. If you saw a human with a torn cruciate would you start stoning their parents? sounds crazy doesnt it? I rest my case!

Sounds like poor breeding or lack of knowledge of the needs of young dogs! Did you find your companion from a breeder who health screens or from the local paper? your statement

As I stated in my original post. My information as to the requirement of a TTA for my dog came from a consultant Orthopaedic surgeon. Ergo, the damage was caused by my dogs leg adhering to the breed standard. Whether the dog was bred "reputably" or not is frankly a moot point. He could have two heads. The fact remains the breed is being "reputably" bred to have health issues. Perhaps you should put your own house in order before making assumptions about any research I have performed.

At what point did I say I didn't research the breed or buy from a reputable dealer? My whole point is that "reputable" is a poor description if "reputable" means selectively breeding from animals which conform to a standard which is harmful to the long term health of an animal. The level of exercise my dog received was in accordance with advice sought from a vet so no to that one. The TTA was performed to correct ligament damage caused by his legs being straight. The type of legs that win shows?

Are you expecting a long list of KC bullshit? He's an Akita. The KC papieren went in the bin where it deserves to be. The Kennel Club is as inbred and defunct as the breeds it claims to represent.

Please try and offer me a decent response rather than trying to make out that I'm the one with the problem.

Well you have obviously had a bad experience of the breed, instead of jumping on your high horse to a breeder who makes sure all her dogs are health tested and many years experience of the breed try having a go at the idiots who buy a couple of dogs just to make a few bob, no health testing or welfare issues on where those puppies end up!! You seem to be in agreement with me then. I have had a bad experience with the breed. Absolutely correct. A breed is by definition the consequence of the actions of breeders. I purchased my dog from a reputable breeder. As breeders attempt to attain a breed standard, and that standard has been described by my dogs surgeon as detrimental to the health of the dog, then the problem I have is with "reputable" breeding. Your attempts to blur the issue are transparent. Epupz? Relevance?

I totally agree with you about some akitas being too straight in the hind leg and am sorry to hear of the problems your own dog. However, this comment from you regarding the puppy in this video is totally out of order. She is NOT straight in the hind leg and she displays correct hind angulation. Would you prefer her to have excessive hind angulation, verging on the German Shephard with it's arse nearly on the floor?

Please complain to the unscrupulous breeder of your akita. Do more research.

On the contrary. if you read my posts I also mention the German Shephard as an example of a breed destroyed by ring breeders. The dog shown in the video IS straight in the leg just as my dog was. That is where the problem arises.

In case you were wondering, the operation your dog will need if you ever allow it out of the show ring to run around like a normal dog is a TTA or Tibial Tuberosity Advancement. This complicated, expensive and moreover painful operation changes the angle of the patellar tendon to counteract the ridiculous straight legged gait favoured by the breeders who are destroying the breed. Bulldogs, German shepherds, fox terriers, you've ruined them all and it looks like the akita is next..shame on you

And that's your response is it? Yes I do like to have a go as you put it. Show breeders are destroying the countries dogs. Are you happy with that? It would seem so if that's your comeback. Bulldogs that can't breathe, Fox terriers that are so stiff legged they can barely walk, German shepherds with legs so bent their arses are nearly on the floor....I tell you the Akita is going the same way and you try and make out that I have a problem for being angry about it. Oh, and I own an Akita.....

I do care deeply about this breed, having had it for over 20yrs, and there is nothing wrong with this akita bitch in the video, we didnt actually breed her but have had all the health tests you can do for an akita and she is clear of everything, so what more is to be expected of an owner/breeder??

I apologise. My posts have been way too aggressive. My defence is that my wee lad has had a hell of a time and I wanted to vent (wrong person I know) however, my point is that the breeding of my dog is not really relevant. I don't think any one breeder is to blame and me shooting my mouth off about her (a very well known breeder) would only seem like sour grapes. She, like you believed she was doing the best. The standard to which breeders are expected to conform to is what's at fault here.

Other people have replied to me saying that I didn't research the breed/breeder or that I over exercised my dog. This has also made me a little bit angry. I researched both the breeder and the breed very thoroughly and have owned dogs for the last 30 years with never a hint of problems relating to their upbringing. I didn't mean to imply that you were a bad breeder or owner but merely that as the consultant said, the standard is creating unhealthy dogs. Can't something be done?

What's with the straight back legs? I have had to recently pay £8000 to rectify (I quote the consultant at Torrington Orthpaedics) a serious fault with the breed standard. When will you start breeding for the benefit of the animal rather than for the pursuit of some abstract aesthetic ideal? You seem to have no care about the future of these beautiful animals other than fluffing them up in order to add to your collection of rosettes. Please feel free to correct me.
