Due to the horrible economic conditions in Russia in the 1990s due to Yeltsin's crony capitalism, which cause immense wealth disparity, true democracy basically disappeared. I am glad Russia has come back somewhat since.

Im going to be heavily insulted by many people, but Gorbatchev and Yeltsin did well in giving the Russian people the right to destroy the totalitarian monstrousity that was the USSR. I don´t think he wanted to destroy the USSR, but yes change it from marxism-leninism to social-democracy.
In the 20th century, marxism showed us it´s true tail: death and suffering. No country in the world (including Russia again) has to deal with such horror.

Yeltsin's attempt for democracy and free trade was too fast, but at least he tried. Russians seem to need an insane dictator to lead them. I mean look at how many still like Stalin, the biggest mass murderer in history. Russians have a habit of living in denial of history.
