she uses her imagination to create a heaven (what she wants) on earth (in her world). this is evident when Chand says "who are you" and (the imaginative) Rocky replies "aren't I what you want?" and the snake plays a great role in it. it helps convey the fact that the story her mother told her about the snake (she recites throughout the whole movie) is the belief that will help her face her situation.

the focus of the movie is not only about domestic violence, this movie is a serious movie in that it shows the power of the human mind. Chand is (clearly) unhappy with her married life and the distress and depression caused by this situation forces her mind to create her own world (the way she wants things to be i.e. nice husband), and hence the title of the movie 'heaven on earth'.

The real issue in this movie is domestic abuse in foreign countries. The snake is just used as a symbolism of hope. The snake does not exist in reality. I think director wanted to show that when you are under severe circumstances, dreams and hope is the only relief you can get. Preity Zinta's dream and hope of having a caring husband kept her sane in the depressing environment. Well that is what I make out of it

The Snake addition to the movie was rubbish. Since its a movie, they could have achieved that "double role" without introducing the Snake/Cobra effect.

This movie has based on a similar theme of Shahrukh Khan Movie "PAHELI" which means "A Riddle".

At the start of the movie, I thought the film would highlight domestic abuse on foreign land; but it has deviated from what I first thought, and instead concentrated on some Fantasy piece of Shyte that involves a snake.

this movie was starting out as a very nice one...good direction and everything; the domestic violence theme was very effective .... it seemed like it carried a powerful message....but then the superstition with the cobra!! that didn't fit at all.... it just didn't go with the serious weight the movie carried. I really loved this movie. may be a bit overemphesised towards the superstition part, but kind of acceptable for kind of personalities portrayed. since I cant understand a word of Punjabi i missed the completenes, but the visual perseption was good enough. but will surely watch with subtitles/dubbed.

It's like her mother keeps telling her that Sheshanaag story in which if you wish really hard the lord snake will help you. Now I gather this is a ichchadhari naag who falls in love with Chaand because she is thinking of the lord all the time to fix her messed up life. The Sheshnaag disguises as Rocky because she won't accept him otherwise. In the end the naag only helps her get rid of all misery and let go home.
