waterspouts are formed from tropical rotation, they tend to be VERY weak, EF-0 on the fujita scale(common estimation), sometimes you can get a rotating storm that originated on land to move off shore, problem is any tornado that moves onto water experiences extreme resistance and weakens quite quickly. BUT, in Greece, true waterspouts formed over the ocean and moved on land, they managed to kill 66? people i think, It ALL depends on the storm.

Some can be just as strong as tornadoes. They forn in a similar fashion to Landspout tornadoes. A regular strength tornado that drops from a mesocyclonic storm that just happens to be over the water is dangerous.

You mean a tornado that is basically the same strength as a land tornado, but coincidentially forms over water (which normally doesn't happen)? I wouldn't want to be too close to that. Maybe a regular waterspout though. I plan on being a storm chaser when I'm older.

Water spouts are only weaker because water is a lot heavier than the dirt and dust a tornado picks up, making the whole thing spin slower. Most ships are really too big to be picked up by a waterspout so if your spooked just head below deck.

Yes... there was a widely reported one that was near to where I live. Blew some roofs off and upturned a few caravans. Made a lot of fuss over it but it was nothing really.

We get approximately 100 tornadoes every year, but most do not affect people as they're out in the country. They only get reported when they hit a town, which they sometimes do.

They aren't anywhere near as serious as the ones that hit the US though.

It's hurricanes that we don't get in the UK, not tornadoes.
