Yes, Karajan had many innovative and not always appreciated ideas in his time! Always interesting to hear what the producers/interpreters of the music have to say about their work.

Good idea though about making cassette tapes for the singers to practise with before actual rehearsals with orch on stage. Practical, too.

Yes. To date, I'm not sure that anyone else does this (taping casts beforehand) for opera rehearsals. He always sought the best way to rehearse, and with his complete control fo the orchestra, could adapt instantaneously to help a singer through any unforeseen difficulties or problems during actual performance.

splendid. This man made for everyone of us possible to taste Wagner's Ring or Strauss' Rosenkavalier on a new medium, the record. Thus he enabled us all to "enter" the concert halls and theatres usually reserved to wealthy people. He made great music available for every man, not just and experience for rich people. Therefore we can only say THANK YOU to such a great achiever. This man was remarkable.
