I'm curious to ask the OP, if at 35mph the awd-lock goes back to open-awd...what if your really only going about 10mph and the tires start spinning really fast like say in the snow or on ice, thus making the speedometer show faster than you really are going...does it disengage the awd-lock or does it somehow know your not really going that fast?
@Deetroiter the AWD computer takes over determining rear torque distribution at 36mph. With increased wheel speed comes increased wheel speed sensor input, so the computer works better at higher speeds; at low speeds with limited wheel speed input, the computer can't react as quickly so the manual LOCK mode works great for low-speed torque distribution. 36mph is fast enough that I have never had a problem with the AWD system's automatic switchover to AUTO mode.
I have a fully loaded 2009 SX4 Technology with automatic trans and iAWD. Bought it with 12,000 miles for $15,000. I get constant mid 30's mpg in AWD mode and can even make it to 40 mpg if conditions are right. I'd say it the best AWD car out there.
@ethomps123 Yes it has the Rocky Road Outfitters 2 1/8 inch lift which can be bought for under $300. It's the best investment I made in the car - never had any problems, and absolutely no regrets. This is how the car should have come straight from the factory.
@rubicon4wheeler Hey you've probably been asked this a thousand times already but how is the car in terms of fuel economy and body roll with the lift and tires? Nice vid btw.
@geeseapples I get 27-29mpg on highway trips, and about 24-25mpg in mixed driving. Body roll is not at all an issue because the car is still a lot lower and lighter than an SUV. I have no regrets whatsoever!
damn i wish i had the awd version

I have a 2010 SX4 Sportback Touring, averages about 26 mpg. One of the only things I don't like about it is a lack of an accessible AUX jack.

@TheKibdog that must be an awesome golf cart, since 3 off-road modified Cherokee's and a Grand Cherokee couldn't make it up this hill.

One hell of a little beast. I can't wait for this winter, weatherman says its gonna be bad. But its gonna be so fun.

The tires are 215/70-R16 General Grabber AT2 all-terrain light truck tires.
After 1 year, I'm still in love with the lift and tires. I'm looking forward to more snow 4-wheeling this winter!
